  1. My login name translates to 24 16.369'. Is there anyone near that on S or E latitude or longitude that can help me out? It looks like the coordinates intersect many major SA roads. The URL is here: click me
  2. Race update link Just to make it easy to get there.
  3. We'll that answers all my questions. I'm closing this thread in the name of neatness.
  4. I thought I should give some feedback on adopting a cache. I e-mailed geocaching and the cache owner about adopting a certain cache, and after a week it was done , which gave me time inbetween sending the e-mail and recieving confirmation to go and replace the cache. It was a very easy thing to do and I was glad to keep a great cache running. I still say that we should get cache adoptions added to our score
  5. Where does the nickle come in, is it part of the print? We were trying to figure this out and even thought it might be a type of wood (nickle wood?) (stupid us, I know) While I'm at it, what are their measurments? I will check out geocacher.co.za to see if the measurement are listed there, I'm just asking in case.
  6. My (Afrikaans) girlfriend came up with these ideas: Geo-dosing Geo-boksing Geo-plasing (Geo with an Afrikaans accent, she recommended). Hope this helps.
  7. Hurt? you have no idea. Call me the Geocaching Crash Test Dummy. Glad to contribute though. I will be getting new webspace soon and then I will link to both geocacher.co.za and GlobalRat's page (which I said I would do ages ago). I think it's great that there are so many South African web sites dedicated to geocaching.
  8. Here here! Three cheers for geocacher.co.za
  9. Perdix: I agree with what you said. I think caches should only really be archived if they are on private property without permission or so on. If a cache has been raided, then it can be replaced. I replaced a cache for a cacher this weekend and another of my caches is probably going to get some maintianance from another cacher. I think team work can help keep caches alive. On geocacher.co.za it recommends taking extra zip lock bags and so on when geocaching, so that you can look after caches that belong to others. I agree with that, since caches are such an important part of the game that they become every geocachers responsibility.
  10. So, I could just aswell contribute by buying travel bugs and other murchandise, because it all goes to the same people? Right?
  11. I know that there are a few Premium Members here in South Africa. Is it worthwhile? Are there "Member Only" caches in South Africa? Editied for spelling
  12. I have two questions. First: Is it possible to adopt someone elses geocache if they have moved away or are no longer able to look after their geocache? I have tried to find out and am interested to know if anyone here has done so. (You can e-mail or send me a message so that this thread stayes on topic.) Edited: I found out all about this at Adopting a cache, so it is possible and a great alternative to leaving dead caches lying around. Secondly: If it is (since it is) possible, does this count in the challenge (Factoring in the fact that a new cache needs to be placed and all the admin that probably goes into the process?)
  13. About 4 miles from my house there is a geocache that has been deactivated. The cache placer has moved to another country and so is unable to maintain the site. I spoke with him and he said he would be happy to let me take over the cache, to look after it and so on. How can I adopt the cache so that I can look after the website aswell?
  14. Africard: can you fill us in on the 'mix up' that happend causing a penalty for one of the racers and so on. I can't remember which bug it was, but I would like to know.
  15. Um, I don't have a signature item, being a poor student and all, but at one point we were placing Bible versus in all the caches we found. As for caches placed, it hasn't been much better, though I have tried to keep it interesting. We will probably do something later, since we call our selves team Ancient Explorations, I was thinking of fake little mummies or something like that, but I'm still looking. I must confess to having placed my fair share of McDonalds toys in caches. I know, shame on me.
  16. Wow, it's amazing the ideas some people have. I'm busy constructing a series of themed caches. I call it "Lost Lord of the Rings" and is all about characters that didn't make it into the movie. The first is Old Man Willow and I want to have a Tom Bombadil cache too. I will probably fill them up with Lord of the Rings books and memorabelia at some stage.
  17. Thanks Africard for placing Voice of Africa. Yeah , time to RACE!
  18. I added all the racers to my watch list, maybe I can get some bets going with my friends and win loads of beer.
  19. Golf balls in geocaches are great: I pick up golf ball while geocaching = give to golfing girlfriend = she loves me more = lets me go goecaching more = GOOD! It is sad though when geocachers on golf courses put golf balls in geocaches, but the worst would be golf T's! The other interesting thing you can do with golf balls is drop two down the legs of your trowsers and run away screaming. Cheap thrill, I know.
  20. I wish the postal service would hurry up! Voice Of Africa hasn't even reached the start cache. It sucks starting from behind.
  21. I will look into the coordinates specified. We occasionally go up to Botswana, so maybe I can help. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you though, Botswana is a tough country, but I'll see what I can do.
  22. I like the fact that you can send your bug off to complete some insane mission, and if it fails, oh well. If you "bury" your TB, does it get removed from your record? I like constantly adding to my record of finds and owned!
  23. I have a question: how long should one leave a problem cache for? Two weeks ago I went looking for a cache, and didn't find it. That same weekend another group also didn't find it. I e-mailed the cacher and he didn't reply yet. Should I leave it for awhile, post a note or what? The cache placer found one cache and placed one cache. Alot of my e-mails to people seem to get blocked, so maybe he just hasn't got my e-mail.
  24. Can you give an estimate of the price? They do look great and I don't want to miss out on this opportunity.
