  1. Would photos help? I don't think alot of people are too keen to reveal too much about their cache location.
  2. You should post a note regardless if you visit a cache. This gives the cache owner and other cachers a note that someone has visited the cache and that all is still in order. Collecting a TB from a cache without posting a note is..... well.... impolite Ok, I'll start doing that, I know as a cache owner it's nice to know what is going on, and it doesn't take much effort to post a note.
  3. I recon you can visit a cache as many times as you want, just log only one find. I have visited many caches a second time to pick up TBs, and I don't post a note (unless dropping off), since I record that I picked up the bug. I recon this all that's needed, since the actual listing does stay up to date and my score doesn't go up unfairly. Hope this helps. Also, visiting caches a second time means that I can spend more Geocaching.
  4. I agree, when are they going to start Geocaching Anonymous? "It's been three days since my last geocache" (applause) "we even have some unused ice-cream containers left in our cupboard, it's the first time in years! My family has even been able to spend a weekend with me, without having to hike or get torn up by thorns." CLUBCAB, start collecting those ice-cream containers now! Before it's too late.
  5. I had an idea to add a small bag to my travel bug, so that it can pick up things like coins or stamps on it's journey to bring back home. Another idea I had was to make several travel bus into one. What you do is get say a space man with a rocket ship, or a cowboy with a horse. You make the rider a TB and the ride another TB. Release them seperatly and see what happens. I think, with some work, this could turn out well. Especially if you add a story to it. Hope this helps get the creative juices going. I think interesting Travel Bugs are the best.
  6. Hey CLUBCAB, welcome to Geocaching. Asking stupid questions is alright, I ask them all the time. You'll find that people here are mostly friendly. Send me a PM or E-mail if you need any help, I'm here almost every day.
  7. Here is a really shoddy map of South Africa with the race participants. If the TB is in someones possession, then it's displayed from it's last known coordinates. Star Light is hiding behind The Globe Trotter (sorry, no time to fix that just yet.) Its amazing what you can do in five minutes with Print Screen and Photoshop Note: This is the map as of 20 April 2005 and might not be up to date at the time you view it.
  8. I hereby formally dedicate my new Travel Bug to this forum thread. Visit The Pee Guy now.
  9. Sunflower oil is the stuff you use in cooking. AKA: vegitable oil. adampierson: I don't think we're talking about weapons here.
  10. Geocacher_coza, did I miss your visit to Pretoria? I'm still eager to buy a Travel Bug.
  11. I have been attacked by someone holding a knife. Sure, it wasn't one of the small kinds, but my thought is why carry one all the time? The dude who attacked me carried one (to a party, where he got drunk, the idiot.) I carry a knife when I go hiking or geocaching, but not everywhere. Anyway, if we say "okey, small knives are okey", then your going to have people wanting to put in bigger knives, and so I say keep them out of caches.
  12. I agree with those who say you should just read the logs. THAT'S WHY THEY'RE THERE! I would also go with the idea of having a personal favourites list, though you could always just add this into your profile. When I get a website, Im going to list my favourites. I also take newbie cachers to my favourite caches if there are no new caches around. We had a discussion in our honours class last night about a similar type of rating system for a match-maker website. The problem would be (like most people have said) alot of flaming (very negative, maybe even untrue comments). Someone would have to monitor this system, to keep it fair. Think about it, would any of you out there actually give up your time to monitor such a system? (I put this log in 3 different threads, cuz I can and cuz I think it's quite relevant)

  14. I used to do Kendo, which is Japanese fencing (think samurai). We used bamboo swords (shinai), to hit with, so they took quite a beating. We used sunflower oil to keep the wood in good shape. You just rub it in with a cloth or even your hands. This will allow it to not crack or dry out. Hope this helps.
  15. So, CITO day is this Saturday. And nothings happening, hmmm.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but the campaign has been launched again for 2005.
  17. I like toys, the kind that you can play around with and then drop off in another cache when it get's too boring. A good example of this was a box of dominoes that I picked up. Played a few games with and then passed on. Also, flags are great, my favorite one being a small beaded flag of South Africa that I picked up and keep pinned to my book bag. Instead of coins, I though that stamps might be nice, though I realise that they won't always last well in a cache.
  18. You should turn one of them into a travel bug.

  20. I say go for it. Some TB owners might like to know that their Travel Bug is still alive. Also, if you move the bug to a cache you have already found, then as long as it's helpful to the bug it's fine. In the end, do what makes you comfortable. I have left bugs that I couldn't help. I personally think the best thing is to keep them moving.
  21. My favourite so far is Heffalump, a travel bug with an innocent face and mission to match.
  22. I can't stop laughing It's so gross, and yet so funny.
  23. Driver's seem to get younger and younger all the time, sheesh.
  24. Red Ones Go Fasta (Inspired by the game Warhammer 40K)
  25. While I'm at it, let me ask a locationless cache question. I realise that many cachers may have cached a locationless cache and know of other places where that same cache could be logged by others. I know part of the fun of it is finding the thing yourself, but what do you guys think about sharing the location of 'uncached locationless caches' with other cachers. For example, I have found tons of lions, cell phone tree towers and water towers since I logged those things myself. I could share these with other people who were missing those finds. (Okey, they're easy examples, but you get the picture.)
