1. Do what you want. I have a dogtag on my GPSr that I visit in all my finds, and only finds. I also have a nametag that I only log in to events I attend.
2. I don't agree with those that say the only way for a cache to show as "found" on a Garmin Etrex is to mark it as "found" on the unit. I just got an Etrex, and uploaded a GPX of my local GSAK database, which has all caches in the area, found and unfound. If I go to the "show found" menu option, it shows all the caches that I have found in the past, that were marked as "found" in GSAK. My "visits.txt" file is erased every time I import into GSAK.
3. My sentiments exactly. I won't have earned any souvenirs simply by signing a log sheet at an event, either.
4. Hope you are joking here....... I'm not sure, but I think this thread may be a reply to another thread.
5. What I think should happen, and this is just my opinion: Nano should be a size category in itself, and do away with the "other" category. I do not think they should be banned, just because some cachers don't like them.
6. It seems to be a server problem, and not connected to the update. The problem is here on the forums, too, and getting worse. It started for me yesterday.
7. There is a solution that has been suggested and received a fair bit of support, but Groundspeak doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. @Jeff: I appreciate you checking your caches for missing TBs. I wish all COs would do that.
8. The error I've been getting is "the connection was reset while the page was loading". If I hit "retry" it loads fine. It's happened on two different computers at two different places. Both systems run Windows 7 and Firefox.
9. It's happened a couple times for me, in this session. I figured it was on my end, but if others are seeing it, maybe it's not. Reloading the page gets it.
10. The only way I know is if you know the GC number or the owner's name. You can type the GC number in the search box, and it will show even if it's archived. If you know who owns it, you can look up their profile and see all the caches they own, archived or not.
11. Hehe, don't worry, I don't plan on disassembling any bridges Just making sure. There are probably some people out there that would.
12. That's been my problem. I've said something like that numerous times. I just try to remember the cache long enough to check the "ftf" box in GSAK.
13. Geocaching Swiss Army Knife. Go to www.gsak.net for more information. It's a geocache database program capable of doing quite a few things outside the Geocaching website.
14. link name Make sure to put the url in quotations, like the example.
15. You might email the reviewer. If you just put a note on the cache page, they might not have seen it.
16. LOL, I want a Montana in that price range! I'd buy one. The cheapest handheld unit I've seen in a store recently is $100. I wonder where they shop? I do like that the article is mostly pro-geocaching, but the research was a bit lacking.
17. This just in the last week or so? I was at a GSAK 101 event on July 27. I don't follow GS's logic here. GSAK is an approved user of the Geocaching.com API. By that same logic, we can't have events about the official Geocaching app, either?
18. I'm supposing some of you know something i don't because i still say that this could be a person who actually attended TCXI. He attended under his normal caching name. Is it possible that he doesn't want any of the August souvenirs? To solve this, he made up his souvenir collector account to go back to caches and dates he's already found. Doing this, he could pick the one's that are important to him. He'd then have a souvenir page with just the souvenirs he wants, albeit, under another name. I haven't tried anything like this but i figure it should work. He doesn't have the souvenir page anymore. The user account is locked, and all the souvenirs are gone. I saw the page earlier, and it looked like every souvenir available was there. I suppose it would be theoretically possible for someone to qualify for every one, but extremely unlikely.
19. I'd say go ahead and place it. The worst the reviewer can do is say no, and it sounds like an interesting location. Just don't remove any existing bolts to replace with the fake one.
20. Is there a cache name or GC number in the container somewhere? It could have washed quite a ways downstream. If it can be identified, the CO needs to know so he can replace it.
21. In most cases, you'd say it's not collectible. Making a bug collectible allows someone to put it in their "collection", taking it out of their "inventory", so it doesn't show in their inventory when they log a cache. I would never make a trackable collectible unless I plan to keep it myself.
22. There is a macro here for GSAK that will check your finds and show what sections you need for a DeLorme challenge. I don't see Groundspeak ever implementing a feature based on the pages of an atlas. State and country boundaries are official, but DeLorme sections are just the way one map company divided the state up.
23. Benchmarks will also have to be manually loaded into GSAK. If you go to the benchmark page, you can download a .loc file of it. You will then have to manually mark if as "found" in GSAK.
24. I'm supposed to be getting an Etrex 20 in the mail, and looking forward to trying that out. I've mostly logged from the website, and recently done some logging through GSAK, when I have several to log. Working pretty nice so far.
