  1. This is not an uncommon misconception among new players who don't bother learning anything about how the game is really played. A cache I found and left a trackable in--the next finder (found totally by accident) took the cache and rehid it "somewhere in Alaska."
  2. Last week I was scrolling through the listing and got to the point where it says it only shows the 1000 most recent logs and that I needed to use another method to see more. GSAK is not an option for me (Mac computer) so I'd be interested in knowing what other methods there are.
  3. But most caches are not hidden in such places, and must contend with all types of weather, etc.
  4. I have both placed and found diabetes test strip containers and they are far superior to the old 35 mm film canisters. They seem to last a fairly long time, but nothing plastic lasts forever.
  5. The relevant guideline is *not* "You can log caches online as 'Found' after some of your friends visited the coordinates and signed the logbook."
  6. I hate it that the solution to every bug is GSAK.
  7. I have this issue as well; never noticed it before because I didn't care about attributes in pocket queries until I came across a Challenge cache based on Attributes and wanted them to show in My Finds to transfer to My Geocaching Profile. I first directed my question to mygeocachingprofile.com and they told me that geocaching.com had to fix it. GC doesn't have a fix for it and directed me to this thread for the GSAK workaround. Well, I don't use GSAK--as a Mac user I understand that I can't use GSAK--and I also understand that it has a significant learning curve, which I don't feel like tackling. I'm not really looking for an answer here, basically just venting. Anyway, Project-GC says I qualify. Another thought re GSAK -- I do have an old Android tablet; would GSAK work on that, if I do feel like trying?
  8. Some years ago (about 11 years) someone in our area started a series of tribute caches. Here are the FTF logs: From the honoree: "Well, with a cache name like that, we were obligated to be FTF! (Even though it was cold and raining!) Thanks for the cache!" From the honoree: "How very cool! Super windy out there today. A bit intimidating with all of the possible hidey holes. Coords spot on. Many thanks for the cache and FTF!!!" Someone else: "FTF on this one! Thanks for the cache in a really interesting place!" The honoree posted as STF: "Now that the FTF has been established, I'll log my find! Was out with SugarPug when she found this spot for a cache. Little did I know, that she was going to name it for me! TFTC!!!" On the cache that was "for me" someone else posted: "FTF! Visiting family and saw this one just got posted. TFTC". I didn't even know it was there--12 miles from my home, outside of my normal notification area; no way I could have beat the First Finder to the cache even if I had seen the publication notice. I finally found it about 10 months later. I don't care about FTF anyway--rather let someone else do the beta testing--I think I have 2 FTFs over the years.
  9. Can you just edit the date of the old log? I think so, but don't want to actually try it right now.
  10. If they can make easy to use date fields for PQs, why not for searches. I guess I'll just use PQs for my searches.
  11. Same as above for me, but it was 2021 that I forgot to get.
  12. Yes, because too many cache owners won't classify them correctly as micros, but call them "other." Also too many cachers who do see nanos called micros, then think that a film canister or prerform or match holder is a "small". Then what is rightly a "small" becomes a "regular."
  13. I would even be satisfied with being able to just hold down the left button and have the search zoom through the months. This business of having to click once for each month is much too tedious. I am planning a trip to an area I've never been and want to search for caches hidden between Aug 1, 2000 and Mar 31, 2001. In addition, for whenever & wherever I happen to be, I want to search for caches hidden in 7 specific months of 2019 - 2021.
  14. I saw the red wrench symbol and assumed there was a NM log. Now I looked back through the logs and found the NM in 2018.
  15. Well, that sounds simple enough, but.. . . I use a trackball rather than a standard mouse and don't have a mouse wheel. And what about those many more people who use a laptop or tablet or even a phone with a trackpad or touchscreen instead of a mouse? (Jeff-this is not actually directed at you, but at those programmers who seem think that everyone (or almost everyone) has the same equipment.)
  16. Looks like you did everything right and the cache is ready to be found. Btw, did you delete the NM log? Unless there was a good reason for doing that (like foul language) you really should let it stand.
  17. It is just as bad for newer caches. Or for any time that one wants to find caches placed on, or before, or after, or between specified dates. PLEASE change this.
  18. I have no problem with seeing yours. Safari on iPad
  19. I use Safari on my desktop (Mac mini) and my iPad. I also frequently get the "Safari Can't Open Page" error message, but usually refreshing the page solves the problem. Occasionally it takes two or even three refreshes, which gets to be annoying.
  20. I am planning a trip for next spring which will include geocaching. I am looking at many caches in several states, but will not be logging any finds for 8 months; and many of the caches I looked at several times, I will probably never log. How is this telling? (Rhetorical question, no need to answer.)
  21. It really irks me when the cache description says something like "This is a very busy place, so be sure to use stealth when finding." My response is that the hider should have chosen a better location, and while I don't actively call attention to what I'm doing, I don't try to be stealthy either--I just go about my business of looking for the cache. It's really hard to be stealthy when you're lying on the ground under a park bench--I just don't do it when someone is sitting on that bench.
