  1. umherstolperer - Congratulations on your FTF! And on such a difficult cache--double congratulations!! I don't read Italian at all (though I did take Latin in High School--seems like a hundred years ago) but I think maybe the other poster did not find the final stage of the cache and shouldn't have logged the "Found it." Maybe someone who does read Italian can verify this. Another thing about a FTF - sometimes a cache hider will leave a special prize for the FTF. Happy caching!
  2. There was a TB I was watching that was in a cache that got trashed. I emailed the CO and they put the TB in "Unknown". Shortly after, it was found in another cache nearby. Don't give up too soon!
  3. Stores that cater to hunters, hikers, etc.
  4. As a cache owner, I'd rather see the note left in place. It is, after all, part of the cache history. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth and confuse the issue.
  5. There are 126 within 10 miles of our home (Pueblo. CO). Still have 44 of them to find.
  6. Thanks for your help so far. Now I have: Garmin etrex Legend HCx City Navigator NT (North America) 2009 Lexar 2GB microSD card I went through the setup and unnlock procedures; I think I followed all the instructions carefully. But the map is still locked. If I try to go through all the unlock steps again, it tells me that the code is already "consumed." If I try to retrieve the unlock code, it tells me that it was successfully retrieved. But the map is still locked. Any ideas? I will probably try calling Garmin tomorrow; are they usually helpful or not so much? Thanks, Nancy
  7. Seems likely to me that an accident (fatal or not) to a geocacher while engaged in any of the above mentioned activities would be attributed to the tree climbing, rock climbing, mountain climbing, scuba diving, caving, skiing, kayaking or canoeing, swimming, or using a helicopter rather than geocaching per se.
  8. I am a 66 y.o. woman and only semi-computer literate, so I am hoping to get some help understanding the process before I buy any thing else (and hopefully avoid buying the wrong thing.) I have a Garmin etrex Legend HCx for geocaching and want to use it for auto routing for occasional traveling and travel caching. (This would be occasional use only and there would be 2 people – one to drive and one to navigate.) 1. I understand that I should buy the City Navigator NT (North America) maps – correct? 2. If I buy the map on DVD I can then use my computer to load the maps to a memory card – correct? 3. How do I do that? While the card is in the GPSr? Or do I use a separate card device? I have a 4-slot SanDisk card thing but none of the slots is as small as the one in the GPSr. 4. Garmin.com sells a 256MB microSD memory card for $24.99, but other places sell much more memory for much less $$ (eg an HP 2 GB microSD for $8.99) Is it ok to use the bigger card (2GB or 4GB? I know it has to be a micro, not a mini or regular SD.) Is there any advantage to using the 256 MB card? Thanks for your help. Nancy
  9. This is one of the reasons I got a new Legend HCX. But before I got it, I would manually edit the code to eliminate the "C". This kept all the Geocaches on the same page.
  10. I don't have any personal experience with this, but have read in these forums that the GPS units that are made to be mounted in vehicles are not very hardy when carried around--and dropped! For that reason I'd be very hesitant (more than hesitant--I'd be very reisitant) to let groups of kids run around with them in their hands.
  11. I think that's a nice idea and I bet your brother would approve. Along with a note of explanation, I think it would be good to attach a photo of your brother. I would be glad to help him along in his travels.
  12. If you go together, you can log your "together" name and both separate names. If one of you should happen to go by yourself, I think only the one separate name is appropriate. Although. . . my husband and I have only a "together" name, and I sometimes go by myself and log under that name. But it's the only one I have; I think if I also had a separate name, I'd log only that one when I went by myself.
  13. If you want an "Official Checkpoint Cache" in Pueblo, CO, I'd like to offer one of mine. GC1GHHG The cache is only a short distance from my house so it's easy for me to maintain; in fact, the parking for the cache is where I can see it from my livingroom window, so I can keep tabs on the activity in the area (if I'm home, of course.)
  14. "I started carrying baggies and labels with "Dropped by The Jester on vacation. Please don't grab from me. Will log ASAP." with the date of the drop. It's helped." Jester, that is an excellent idea!
  15. Is there a place to find a complete list of user names, so that a person could at least try to avoid a name that is so similar to one already in use?
  16. Fabifri - You have nothing to apologise for regarding your English. You write very well, much better than many who are "native speakers." Happy caching, Nancy
  17. Go to the cache page and under "Log your visit" select "Write Note" Write whatever you want to say in the box. Then at the bottom of the page under "Dropped off any Travel Bugs" select the Bug that you left in the cache. Happy caching!
  18. I like the idea of the companions signing as "beta testers" and having that mentioned on the cache page. In any event, if there is a FTF prize, I don't think the cache owner's companions should take that--unless that was the owner's intention.
