  1. No. I have no problem with disagreement, I'm simply taking advantage of the opportunity to poke some fun at a few people. Many of the arguments against challenge caches are nothing more than selfish opinions. Sort of a playground 'I want it my way' approach. It comes off as quite childish. Sorry, but it is my perception that your posts about this have come of as childish, and I have been seeing you as coming across as one of the "I want it my way" folks. If that isn't true, I'm sorry... but perhaps you aren't wording your thoughts carefully enough then 'cause calling your fellow cachers "Poopy Diaper People" doesn't come across as mature. Just sayin'... It's more of a joke than anything else. If I cared enough to elaborate (once again), I would've left out the labels. I've discussed my opinions on this on other threads. I haven't made an effort to discuss my opinions about the challenge cache issue on this thread. Not sure how I'm coming off as 'my way only', perhaps you could cite specific examples? As far as my childish posts *on this thread*... true enough, but when in Rome... ... act as Roman! ? And no, I'm not about to start citing examples to "prove" my point. That would be even more off-topic and get us nowhere, I made my point, you can take it or leave it. For the sake of whatever discussion you guys are having I'll let you off the hook this time.

  4. I can understand that. If I'd taken more time to think it through, I would have said 'Diaper Wad Gang' or 'Poopy Diaper Clan' instead. I'm talking about those crying about how challenge caches have changed the game. Are you honestly trying to suggest that they haven't? If so, how about presenting a convincing argument for how they have not changed the game instead of name calling and characterizing legitimate arguments for how they *have* changed the game as "crying"? Thanks for making my point more clear. I never said they haven't changed the game, just that I find it funny to listen to a group of adults act like young children. Is calling a group of geocachers the "Panty Wad Gang" or the "Poopy diaper Clan" acting like an adult? Presumably, the OP started this thread so that we could discuss, as adults, the merits of a moratorium on challenge challenges. Name calling has no place in that discussion, nor does characterizing those that may have an opposing viewpoint as "crying"? No, despite the accuracy of my description it definitely doesn't add much to the discussion. I think this has obviously been discussed enough already which has resulted in this action by GS. I'd be surprised to see GS eliminate challenges but if they do you won't hear me whining about it. I've detailed to you why I believe your opinion on challenges is astoundingly selfish so I see no need to rehash that here. Things change but you guys can't handle it. It's childish in my opinion.

  7. It seems like the Panty Wad Gang has won a small victory here. Touche.
  8. That's not a challenge cache. That's an ALR. Including challenge in the cache title doesn't make it a challenge cache. Actually, I worded that incorrectly, it doesn't require a log of TFTC, it 'respectfully requests' either a log of 'TFTC' or 'DNF'. And the weird thing is, everyone has played along so far. Okay, that makes it neither an ALR or a challenge cache. One of my favorite finds was a cache on island which had a pirate theme. The CO respectfully asked people to post their logs in pirate-speak and most of the people that logged the cache also played along. That wasn't a challenge cache either. We have a similar one here, a three stage, Pirate themed Multi that uses Letterbox style clues for the third stage. Many people continue the Pirate theme by logging with a pirate-speak log. One of the more enjoyable Multis I've found. Off topic, I know.

  10. My first thought is that while I can sympathize with you on caches being placed without proper permissions (I'm a stickler for permissions), there are any number of public places that quite simply do not require a city representatives permission, unless the city has some sort of code against it, which it sounds like they do not. Is the city you're talking about Antigo, WI?
  11. Hi. I want to apologize for the unintended rudeness of my fellow geocachers here and extend a warm welcome to you for recently joining this exciting hobby. Welcome to Geocaching!
  12. When you are explaining to a police officer exactly what you were doing behind the grocery store crawling through the bushes with a flashlight on a rainy night in December.
  13. There is the TFTC Challenge located in the city I lived in until recently. It requires you to find the cache and only write 'TFTC' in your online log.
  14. Whew! I'm just glad you didn't buy the Etrex 10. I have one and I wish I would've flushed that $85 down the toilet instead...would've been a better use.
  15. 'Cache wasn't where I thought it would be hidden, so I replaced it with a 35mm.' Does this work?
  16. As much I'm sure we would all be entertained by another mind-numbing thread like the one from earlier, let me remind you of Keystone's closing statement:
  17. This is a good list. Thanks for sharing. The reviewer I deal with in Alabama uses the same profile for reviewing as he does caching, and does not include any information about helping the review process. The two reviewers I deal with in Florida keep ample information on their profiles to aid in the review process. I typically try to provide a good deal of info both to expedite publication and ease the mind of the reviewer, but I'm always looking to provide more.
  18. I keep multiple field notebooks for various purposes, one of them geocaching. I also keep a decent amount of digital files on my laptop, mostly puzzles or challenges I'm working on or have solved. I have separate docs for different cities or areas with solved puzzles. I have a D/T to do file, spreadsheets of my finds, spreadsheet where I'm working on the Colorado GeoArt series. I also keep several different bookmarked lists of certain caches I've found (cemetery, FTF, favorites, etc). And, like a lot of others have said, I will look through my logs from time to time.
  19. This is what I'm going to do about the cache with the hole drilled into the tree. I didn't think to take pictures at the time so I'll have to return to the area for those first.
  20. Oh, and make sure you're familiar with the guidelines: (visit link).
  21. Most importantly: Have fun. My advice on hiding your first cache, and the advice you'll no doubt get from others, is to spend a good deal of time finding caches before you hide one. The more caches you find, the better idea you'll have of what it takes to hide a good geocache. It is also best to incorporate an actual handheld GPS unit into your cache-game if you haven't already. The smartphone apps have their place, but nothing replaces the handheld unit, especially when it comes time to make your first hide. Attending Event Caches is a great way to get an idea of how the game is played, and also a great place to meet experienced cachers. And definitely spend time reading and interacting on the forums...trust me, there are plenty of opinions here dying to be shared.
  22. I published a cache several years ago that spooked a nosey old lady with binoculars because she spotted several people looking suspicious around an old propane tank. It ended in an out-of-town cacher getting dramatically roadblocked by local cops and sheriff deputies who thought they were responding to a terrorist attack, or so they said. Also made the front page of our small-town paper.
  23. I suppose I'm trying to figure out just how obvious these violations are, and if potentially the guidelines should be further clarified. Personally, I have no problem reporting the hole drilled into the tree but I don't see how using posts is a problem, especially if permission was obtained. To be honest, I will have truly opened the flood gates if I decide to start reporting all of the caches in the area I'm talking about. There is a group of extremely active cachers/hiders who are using a 'pull-and'catch' container type that uses PVC with a cap on one end and open on the other, all painted black. Often (very often) these containers are screwed into telephone poles. The log container is a matchstick or bison or similar which is held up inside the open end of the PVC by a zip-tie or bolt. I'm talking about hundreds of these around the area...and apparently no complaints.
