  1. Another thing I would check is make sure you have the latest unit software installed on the 60csx. You can check the unit software here: Main menu, setup, system, press menu and select software version. The latest for the 60csx as of now is software version 3.50, GPS chipset software verison 3.00
  2. You hit the nail on the head, its a settings issue. To change your map settings from the map screen hit menu and select setup map. now highlight mapsetup - points (small flag icon, third from the left). I believe the setting you are looking for is the map points zoom level, see image below.
  3. Thats exactly the problem I was having, I used to get initial lock quickly at my desk, and only occasionally had issues when moving in the car. With the 3.00 update it seems to always struggle with getting initial lock(cold start), usually taking just under 2 minutes. I have been using the 3.00 update for a couple months now so I definitely have let the unit bake in under a clear sky on numerous occasions since I installed the update. I remember reading that there was really no changes with this update so it seems strange that there would be any issues.
  4. I updated my 60csx with the webupdater to chipset 3.00 a couple months ago, but have been having a slight issue with my gps getting initial satellite lock since then. Cold start my gps used to be around 45sec. with version 2.90 of the chipset software, but with version 3.00 its usually just under 2minutes, especially when moving. Today I finally got around to installing the older 2.90 chipset software and my unit is back to normal 45sec first fix times. has anyone else had any issues with the 3.00 chipset software?
  5. I agree the button is mushy feeling, but I have never had an issue where the cursor goes in a direction other than the one I press. The only thing I can think of is user error or there is something wrong with the button on your unit.
  6. I've tried both, but much prefer the city Navigator maps because of their updated map data. V7 or V8 of metroguide still don't show some major hwy upgrades in my area, where Version 2008 of city navigator does.
  7. In this mode it doesn't update your position every second like normal, so it not only savers batteries but also makes the unit much less accurate. You should easily get 20-30hrs battery life with your VistaC when using it normally(no backlight), you really shouldn't need to use the battery saver mode.
  8. I updated mine a couple weeks ago with the webupdater with no issues at all, except for the fact if you check for updates again it keeps telling you to install 2.90 even though it's already installed. it was like this with the previous two updates also, so I've gotten used to it. What USB port are you using on your PC? Don't use a hub or front USB ports they can cause issues. I would also check and see if there is an updated version of the webupdater software, I think I remember hearing of issues where it wouldn't find updates when using an older version. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/
  9. Don't forget if you send the unit in for service, they are going to send you a different one in return. The unit ID won't match what you unlocked your maps with and your maps won't work. A call to Garmin they will give you another unlock, but I shouldn't have to jump through these hoops(I also should have mentioned it when calling in the first time). Since I have to register the GPSr and maps with garmin they should have this information readily available to the call center personnel, if I have to send my unit in they should say "Sir, it looks like you also have one of our locked map products, we will send a new unlock code along with your refurbished GPS".
  10. Its a reference to the unit software and issues people have found. most computer software is released in beta testing before it reaches the public. RC stands for Release candidate, software usually goes through a few RC releases before they final build is put out to everyone. if you have to ask I would wait to get one until garmin puts out a few more updates before purchasing.
  11. I stopped using the geocaching mode because of this and the fact I could only use one icon for found/unfound caches(default are open closed treasure box), I use custom cache type icons instead. Pretty much everyone agrees having the note field highlighted not the found field makes way more since, yet garmin never seems to be listening. Seems like they could easily change this in the unit software. this issue hs been around since I got my LegendC or when the 60c/60cs were out, almost 4 years ago. I doubt garmin will change this anytime soon.
  12. That's your problem, don't use battery saver mode if you want the unit to be accurate. It not only doesn't use WAAS in this mode, but also doesn't update your position as frequently as normal to further save batteries. EDIT: I see ozseeker also mentioned above this as the possible cause. He is right, I had my LegnedC off by more than 50ft one day on every cache, and it was never off much at all before. I got home and noticed this setting and switched it back, no problems since then.
  13. ok so your saying there isn't a problem? if you have the unit logging tracks to the data card there end up being hundereds of errors logged so clear the track log before each time i want to record a track isn't a viable solution. also If I save the track it strips all the important data and makes the tracklog useless for my use. your explanation of the gpsr continuing the first track makes sense, that's exactly how all my magellan gps worked. With every garmin I have had if you power the unit off and turn it back on it starts a new track. NONE of my garmins except for my VistaHCx and VistaCx have this strange lines from the old location behavior. I use my 60cx and legendC and never have this. Yes I can edit the tracklog to remove these errors, but I shouldn't have to, my work around is if I spot the problem right away I just turn the unit off and on again to start a new track.
  14. as far as I remember no, there is no way to zoom any farther than 100ft with that GPS.
  15. I've noticed something very similar with the VistaHCx, if I turn the unit off 10-30miles from my current location then when I turn it on sometimes I get tracks that connect my old location with my new. I also had this odd behavior a couple times with my VistaCx. The only thing I can think of it must be recording tracks when it has very poor signal lock, so poor that it still thinks its where it was last time it had lock. Seems to me that if the unit has a poor lock the track it records is going to be pretty useless anyway, so why not make the unit require +/- 100ft accuracy(maybe better) before it starts recording a tracklog. I believe that my 60Cx does something similar with auto-routing calculation, if I to a follow-road goto before I have initial satellite lock the unit doesn't calculate until it gets +/- 72ft claimed accuracy.
  16. You can check your software version here: main menu, setup menu, system, now press the menu/find key(lower left) & select software version. 2.90 is the most current. I used to use a legendC and upgraded to the VistaCx and also noticed the unit was always off a bit. I felt that after I updated to version 2.80 the unit was much better than before, I haven't tested accuracy since I updated to 2.90. A side note the unit does seem to get signal lock much quicker than before with this update. When I was having issues I did test my unit at some benchmarks and it was always 10ft or closer(very clear view of sky), yet it still seemed off more than my old unit in less than optimal conditions. You can get the update here or download the webupdater if you want to use the easier updating solution. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloads...167&pID=326
  17. The 60Csx(and my vistaCx) used to have a setting for lithium batteries, garmin removed it with one of the more recent unit software updates. I believe the reason was that because of the high initial battery voltage you could damage the unit. If you do put new lithium batteries in the unit will more than likely power itself off shortly, you can run the batteries down a bit in another device then they will work fine. The vistaHCX came out after the 60csx so they probably updated the units internals to handle the higher voltage, that would be my guess is to why it still has this option.
  18. I'm not sure what your trying to ask, do you currently have any maps? if you don't currently have maps a map update disk isn't what you want, you would want the full version, though without more info from you this is just a guess.
  19. More accuracy if you can actually get WAAS near the cache hide, but some people claim worse battery life. I've never really noticed a significant difference in battery life so who knows.
  20. Well I decided to try to do what your asking(because I thought it was possible) but only ended up with questions of my own. I set my unit to use two wide data fields and then went into the change data fields menu option. There are two options for displaying coordinates as a data field, Location(lat/lon) or Location(selected). I always assumed that location selected would show the coordinates for a waypoint or POI I am going to, but it seems selecting either of these options only displays your current location. Is this a bug or why do these options produce the same results? I guess if this is the way it's suppose to be they need to add another option, something like Location(waypoint). Tested on both my 60Cx and VistaCx with the same results.
  21. Don't use a hub it should solve your issue. Also if you ever try to update the gps unit software and are using a hub you can brick the unit. best bet is not using a hub or even the front USB ports on a PC(basically front ports are a hub). I had my legendC do this exact same thing and I always thought there was something wrong with it, turns out it was the PC. I have never had any issues with that GPS since getting a newer computer.
  22. The last chipset update fixed the odometer bug, that alone is worth the update(walking the unit would only log a couple miles of a 8+ mile hike).
  23. No, you should update to the most current. The updates do more than fix one problem and usually can also add improvements. Also remember the VistaHCX has the unit software and the chipset software, the only way to get the chipset software updated is by using garmins webupdater and checking for aditional updates after it updates the unit software. you can check your current unit and chipset software here: main menu, setup menu, system, click the option button(lower left) and select software version. If I'm not mistaken the most current are 2.60/2.60 here is the change log for the current unit software, as you can see it does alot more than fix the washed out screen issue. Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60: * Correct German translation of 'delete all waypoints'. * Fix data card unlock failure when 2 cards of the same map set are used in one device. * Improve sun times for polar regions. * Fix issue where ETA in non motor vehicle modes can be unreasonably short. * Increase precision of distance measurement to the cursor on the map page. * Allow backlight adjustment on the track back point selection page. * Fix shutdown when editing Estonian Grid coordinates. * Correct daylight saving time for New Zealand. * Improve selection of the names of cross roads with NT maps. * Correct potential shutdown when viewing a vertical profile. * Correct European word translation of 'Find' and 'Mark'. * Support multiple languages in American version. * Fix screen fading issue in cold temperature. * Correct total ascent calculation. * Correct direction symbol of vertical speed. * Fix reboot issue of GPS firmware update. * Correct battery issue of lithium battery. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/
  24. yep it must have been operator error.... both the meridian gold and explorist 200 I had issues with would work great 95% of the time. The other 5% the unit would power off and when you would power them back on it would need to be re-initialized and all user waypoints and other data was gone. With the meridian gold you could store the waypoints on the SD card to work around the issue, but I shouldn't have to. list of magellan GPS I owned(bought new): 1. Sporttrak map - it powers off when you do a goto any waypoint, boomerang effect. 2. Meridian gold - metal battery contact lost connection with units main board, boomerang effect. 3. explorist 400 - 95% of the time was great, 5% of the time it was off by 200-300ft even with right datum checked, rocker switch stopped working when pushed to the right. 4. meridian gold - very poor claimed EPE but no boomerang effect, unit would reset itself and need to be re-initialized. besides the major issue of the unit resetting itself, it was the best/most accurate Magellan GPS I owned. 5. Explorist 200 - didn't have any issues for almost a year, then it started to loose all waypoints and need to be re-initialized(sometimes). All these units that had PC connectivity had the most current unit software installed. I guess all these issues could be attributed to operator error, but then why don't I have problems with any of my 5 garmin gps receivers? only issue I had with garmin was the rubber came loose from my legendC, which Garmin replaced out of warranty.
