  1. As all the others have said, any maping gps should be able to do this, but I think the lowrance Ifinder H20 I had did it one step better than most units I've used. To elaborate: With the Ifinder H20 you could pan to a different location, if you hit exit it would bring you back to your current location. Where the ifinder is different is you could hit the exit button again and it will bring you back to the last location you had panned to, even after you have switched screens or powered the unit off. Just bring up your map, and hit exit to use this feature. its really nice, kinda like having two map pages. That was my favorite feature of the Lowrance, I wish my 60cx worked this way. Any know of other GPS models work like that?
  2. Another option would be to load openstreetmap data for Guam to your garmin GPS. It takes a few steps to load them to your gps, but you can edit these maps and improve any errors you find so these maps can be better than most you commercial bought maps. Guam on openstreetmap: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=13.449&a...;layers=B000FTF Instructions for loading these maps to a Garmin: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Mkgmap
  3. The front USB ports on a PC works like a USB hub, hence the issue. I had my 60Cx get messed up during an upgrade using my front USB port on my old PC. After checking on the forum to see what I might have done wrong everyone pointed me to this as being the possible issue. I stopped using the front USB ports, or any USB hubs, and have never had an issue since.
  4. Yes it is possible to brick your gps with the webupdater, though unlikely if you follow a few simple steps. First remove any SD/Micro SD card you have installed. Next never use the front USB port on your PC or any type of USB hub, you can run into issues when doing it this way. You may not have any issues using a USB hub or the front PC USB ports, but why run the risk?
  5. I just looked at the golflogix gps you are talking about, I don't think those units are internally similar. If I had to guess by the button layout and screen size/type it looks like an EtrexH. Notice above the screen on the golflogix says High sensitivity? only the newer Etrex models use that type of chipset. also notice that the golflogix model doesn't have a click-stick, only the EtrexH is configured this way. It may be possible to load that firmware to the EtrexH, though I don't think I would try it.
  6. I assumed the same as everyone else that location was where you are, and selected is the point you are going to, but for me it always just displays my current location no matter which I select, even if I goto a waypoint. MtnHermit is right, after moving my cursor selected does show the point your curser is on the map screen. This option is pretty pointless since if you use the map screen you get a popup that shows the cursors location anyway.
  7. I just took apart mine(round plug 60csx 12 adapter), it's a 15A/250V fuse. I've never replaced it so it should be exactly what your looking for.
  8. So you say the POI's aren't showing on the map, but do they show up under the find menu?
  9. I've used an etrex legendC and VistaCX for thousands of miles in my windshield mount, it's completely safe. I no longer have either unit but I do think you are going a bit overboard stating that its unsafe. I guess I would be unsafe to use if you had very poor vision, but then maybe you shouldn't be driving. If I had to categorize anything as unsafe on the etrex for car use, it would be the button placement. unless you have memorized all the functions you better be parked to navigate to any waypoints/locations.
  10. Upgrade to windows XP or newer, or get a newer PC since its probably about time anyway.
  11. I would say the LegendC is worth more than $50, especially considering the older blue Legend still sells for over $100. The LegendC is a much better GPS than the blue legend, it has a USB PC connection, color screen, and 24mb of map storage(blue legend has serial connection & 8mb of map storage). With that said I would buy the VentureHC or the LegendHCX before I would even consider a LegendC.
  12. I should also mention that the topo maps do loose detail as you zoom out, depending on your detail setting at some point they loose all topographic lines and just show roads, though I think just major roads.
  13. The problem is the detail setting on the unit, and city navigator is much better at displaying less detail the more you zoom out. With City navigator I like having the map detail setting on Most(the highest setting), But with the topo US 2008 when you zoom out at that setting the map gets very cluttered with topo info. Here's an example(on my 60Cx) of the topo US 2008 at the same zoom level, the Image on the left is the detail level set to normal, and the one on the right Most. as you can see its very cluttered unless you zoom in more. Here is a couple shots of City Navigator, both set to the Most detail, one at .5 mile zoom and the other zoomed out at 1.2mile zoom. as you can see the detail gets much less detail as you zoom out.
  14. You will not be able to do this because you bought the Topo maps on the pre-programed card. If you had both on DVD this is very easy to do. There was a post about loading two mapsets from the DVD's a few down from yours. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=209903
  15. I somehow managed to loose the basemap on my 60cx a couple years ago. after messing around with resetting the unit I finally called garmin and they sent me a replacement unit.
  16. The VentureHC has the "click-stick" enter button/direction pad so it navigates just like your old Legend, and usually goes for less than $150. It has 24mb for map storage, much more than the 8mb your legend has. it also has the same high sensitivity chipset as the EtrexH you just purchased. EtrexH uses the same serial connection to the PC as your old legend, but the VentureHC uses a USB connection to the PC.
  17. No, the VentureCx is older than the VentureHC. The ventureCX is a color unit with expandable memory, the ventureHC is a color unit with the newer High sensitivity chipset. it only has 24mb of map storage though. The GPS60 is older than both of these models, and doesn't have a new high sensitivity chipset like all the H model Etrex, or the 60csx/60cx 60series models.
  18. City Navigator 2008 didn't contain very much river, stream, lake info. The newer City navigator 2009 does have much more of this data, but not as complete as the topo software. If your not seeing the rivers in mapsource on your PC, then I wouldn't expect it to display on your gps either. If you can autoroute more than just major highways then it sounds like you have the maps installed properly.
  19. You will also need to get maps to do turn by turn directions, City Navigator North America 2009 NT you will also need to order a larger microSD card if you want to load a large area, I have the whole US loaded to a 2gb card.
  20. The 60cs (color with sensors) and the 60c (color) are old models. They both only have 56mb of map storage and an older crappier gps chipset. They were replaced with the 60csx and 60cx in the fall of 2005. The 60csx (color, sensors, expandable memory) and the 60Cx (color, expandable memory) are much better units. They have Micro SD card slots for map storage, so you aren't limited to only 56mb of maps storage like the old models, you can install a 2gb micro SD and load the whole US of street maps easily. These newer models also have the SirfIII chipset that hold signal much better in the woods than the units they replace. I wouldn't even consider buying the 60cs or 60c once I have used the 60csx and 60cx.
  21. I would choose the VentureHC, it has a USB connection to the PC and the MUCH better gps chipset so you won't loose signal in the deep woods.
  22. Mark a waypoint, rename 999 and hit ok. the next waypoint you make will be 001 again.
  23. My blue legend didn't come with the Trip & waypoint manager CD, but my LegendC, VistaCX, VistaHcx and 60Cx all came with the CD.
  24. Neither Garmin topo US 3.02 or the newer topo US 2008 have any unlock codes. are you using a different version of topo?
  25. I think sight-n-go is probably the closest thing you are going to find for this kind of feature.
