  1. Ok, that's a step many people don't do so that's why I brought it up. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first time that you've mentioned POI Loader. Some people use the term POI and waypoints interchangeably and I thought you were doing that. The POI's that I have loaded to my GPS with Garmin's POI Loaded do not show up in BaseCamp at all anywhere. How did you transfer them into BaseCamp? It's hard to sus out the issue without all the facts. Are you certain those POI's that are showing in BaseCamp aren't from one of the map products installed? OOPS! Guilty as charged: I did forget to mention POI Loader, sorry. The only map product that I have "installed", is a Garmin GB Discoverer pre-programmed data card, i.e. a micro SD card, with 1 mile to the inch maps. I know the POI's did not come with it. However, I recall finding a website which offered POI's, which I probably then downloaded into Basecamp and then transferred them to my GPS. The Garmin POI Loader application has a facility to "Remove all previously installed custom POIs from your device", which I have done. and the POIs have gone. The remaining sole issue is how to remove them (as distinct from any "waypoint") from Basecamp. Thanks for all your help so far.
  2. Moving that file to the trash is only the first step, with the Dakota drive mounted on the desktop, you will also have to empty the trash or they will still be on the card taking up space as an invisible reclaimable file it the ~/.Trash folder To delete the POI's from your "MY Collection" with BaseCamp for Macintosh, you are going to have to select "My Collection" and then select the POI's you want to delete and you use the delete key as mentioned above. You don't use gpsbable or any other software on your Macintosh. That's what I do on my various Macintoshes. I have emptied my trash folder to ensure that the POI's have gone for good, but I think that you may be confusing waypoints which I may have generated, and Points of Interest (POI) that I initially loaded onto my GPS using Garmin's POI Loader application, and subsequently transfered to Basecamp. I appreciate that I can highlight individual waypoints in the Basecamp "My Collection" folder, but with the POI clearly shown on the on screen map, as they do not appear in the "My Collection" folder, I cannot delete any of them. Is it time for an updated software version of Basecamp? Regards

  4. Thanks for the tip. However, I have managed to rid these pesky POI's from my GPS by plugging my Garmin Dakota 20 into my iMac; open Finder, and clicking on the Garmin device. Open the Garmin Folder, then open the POI folder within, and drag the poi.gpi file into the trash bin. Now when I use my GPS the POI's have disappeared. Will your trick work on removing the same POI's from "My Collection" in Basecamp? Cheers
  5. Hi Splashy, Very happy to agree with you that a Waypoint can be deleted one by one; it's just a shame that you cannot do the same with POI's. If however, the only way to delete a POI is to delete all of them by removing the file, I'd settle for that. Do you know how to do it? Cheers
  6. Hi I've been using an iMac running OSX 10 .5.8 with a Dakota 20 successfully for some time. I found that it would not work when I used safari, but worked brilliantly with Firefox until I upgraded the Firefox software to 3.6.10. Although I can access the Geocaching website, I cannot see the main map when searching for caches using google maps. HELP!
  7. they show in BaseCamp right, so it wouldn't matter if they were geocaches, waypoints, geotagged photos... On a Mac the delete key deletes them all. What Mac are you using there??? Sent from my iPod I'm using an iMac, running OSX10.5.8, and as you've suggested, I have no problems deleting geocaches, waypoints, etc from Basecamp; once selected, I just press the delete key and they disappear. I should have explained that I am trying to delete Points of Interest, things like petrol (gas) station, shops and other commercial facilities, who have promoted their businesses by supplying their details to various websites that offer POI's. Having downloaded some to the Mac, and subsequently downloaded them to my GPS via Basecamp, I cannot use Basecamp to "manage" them. What I would like to do is connect my gps to my Mac, open Basecamp, select the POI's (as you would be able to do for a waypoint, and nuke the POI's. The problem is that you cannot slect them in the same way that you can select a waypoint, and therefore you are not given the option to wipe the critters off. Hope this explains my predicament more clearly. Any help appreciated.
  8. Hi, I'm using a Dakota 20 in conjunction with a Mac, and I use Basecam v3.02 to manage waypoins, tracks, routes and caches. My problem is that I have also added POI's that I've downloaded from the net, which either no longer exist in reality, or I want to remove the clutter of POI icons from my Basecamp map. How can I delete selected POI's? If it is not possible, would Basecamp consider upgrading the software to include some form of POI manager. Thanks
  9. This explains why some programmes never make it to the iPlayer. Basically it's all to do with licensing and rights clearance. [eta] This page gives more and suggests that actually, it's some other hold up and it should be there eventually. The show's iPlayer page does have the 'coming soon' tag... Hello. Pleased to say that the technical gremlins have finally been fixed and the programme is now available on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t2xwm Very sorry for the delay Oh no they have'nt ! Still technical problems according to message on site ! errm I and from what I've seen from several sources listened to it this afternoon try clicking http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t2xwm then listen now Why Aye bonny lad - would have listened again on iPlayer, but to be frank, I lost faith in the programme ever being made available and when I could be bothered to check it had been and gone! Perhaps some kind person at the BBC could make the programme available as a podcast?
  10. I just do a pocket query and download that to my pc. Then unzip the pq file. Plug in the dakota to your pc. Go to my computor select the drive that shows the dakota. Go to the garmin file open the gpx file folder. Open the file on your pc that has the unzipped pq and move it to the gpx folder on your dakota. Thanks I'll give it a go Hi I use a Mac running OS X in conjunction with a Dakota 20. You could also send bulk cache info to a freely available application called Basecamp, and then with the GPS connected to the computer, transfer them to the Dakota. Happy caching! Bikehog
  11. Hi I use a Mac running OS X in conjunction with a Dakota 20. With the approriate Garmin software, i.e. their communicator plug in, I can download the cache locations direct to the GPS. An alternative, is to sent the geocaching locations to an application called Basecamp, freely available as a download through the Garmin website, and then with my Dakota 20 plugged into my Mac, transfer the caches from Basecamp to the GPS. Happy caching! Bikehog
  12. I'm a mac user, and I download caches to my Dakota 20 with no problem. You do need the Garmin Communicator plugin, which you can download via their website. Happy caching! Bikehog
  13. There is a clear interest in listening to this programme again. Perhaps the BBC could explain if the programme will be made available through the BBC iplayer and when, but if not, why not. Thanks
  14. Hi I have a dakota 20 and I use Mac OS x with no problems. My preference would be for the Dakota 20, as the pre-loaded Garmin Maps that come on a micro SD card, are far superior to the maps available only as a download for the Dakota 10. Here in England, you can find an all inclusive packaeg - Dakota 20 and a Garmin Discoverer Map (either for Southern England, Northern England, Scotland or [i think] the new whole of the UK Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 scale map. Let me know which model you buy, and if you are able to load any 'CustomMaps' into it via Google Earth + Overlays. Regards Bikehog
