  1. Yes, I used it today to get to Manchester with no connection. You need to download and save the maps on your phone, use the Nokia Map Loader software (also free). In off line mode it also knows all the local amenities including petrol, shops, hotels etc. Nokia are promising free updates to maps as well. My ancient Navman is heading for the bin for in car sat nav! Be warned though it does eat the battery, I just need an in car charger now. Going back to the format issue I raised earlier it works fine with th standard Geocaching use of DD MM.MMM just have to remembr to add in the n and w with spaces af follows:- DD MM.MMM n DD MM.MMM w I need to look into SmartGPX, thanks for the reminder Pooks. Interesting article, Bear and Ragged, we will have to see what happens.
  2. Update on this:- I found out that you can search for co-ordinates in the following format:- DD MM SS n DD MM SS w and DD MM SS.SSS n DD MM SS.SSS w This is in walking mode navigation with straight line navigation. I assume that the second is more accurate? I am not yet up to speed with co-ordinates! However, as Geoching.com likes the format:- DD MM.MMM it is not as compatible as it could be.
  3. Hi All, I have been exploring the options of geocaching using only my phone (5800 XpressMusic), being new at this I had only used to navigation tool on the phone while printing out cache info. Now I have done more research I have started to get to grips with Geocaching Live, which is good but needs a phone connection to download maps and caches. Nokia yesterday released their map software for free so I have loaded that onto the phone so I have detailed offline maps on the phone plus free sat nav. The maps are version 3.03 and should be able to be searched by co-ordinates but I cannot figure out how to do that at the moment. Now if there was a way of combining the two I could download caches only with Geocaching Live but use the detailed off line maps already on my phone. Anyone know any info? Thanks.
  4. Impressed with this, it works well in off line mode (no intrnet connection so no need to worry about provider)and finds satelites much faster than my aging sat nav. It works with my 5800 well, either portrait or landscape, it also doesn't seem choosy about a clear view to the sky. It directed me home from the office sitting nicely on the little shelf between the speedo and clock so I could see it well through the steering wheel. It also stores all local amenities in offline mode so I could find nearest petrol etc. Very impressed as a sat nav. Just need to know how to get caches to appear!
  5. Just downloading this now, you can get worldwide (pretty much) maps for free using the map loader on your PC, this would then work offline with the sat nav. For example, the whole of Europe is 2.2Gb, but broken down the UK is 157.9Mb. Easy with an 8Gb card which came free with my 5800. Question, how to link it into Geocaching?
  6. Thanks for the swift reply, I am currently reading about Locify and Geochaching Live. Geocahing Live maybe looks better but it is obviously still in Beta, anyone had any issues with it? This forum on the beta of Geocaching Live is interesting.
  7. Hi All, first post. I have a 5800 and have used it for caching (very new to this game). I use the Navigator software that come installed on the phone, is the stuff on the web, Locify for example, better? I have always just printed out the pages and taken them with me. We then park up input the co-ords into the phone and away we go, resorting to the paper clue if needed (or if the younger members of the team are getting bored of the area). I just never thought about other software.
