I always have that issue of not being tall enough to reach a cache. Once I was lucky to have my 8 year old with me. He sat on my shoulders and checked all of the trees. Just our luck it was in the last tree we checked which was right in front of our geo vehicle.

This is what I did when I found the log was wet and I did not have any logs that would fit the micro. I told the owner that their cache needed maintenance and that as soon as they repaired it I will revisit it and sign the log. I logged it as found though. The owner contacted me back and told me it was back up and that I can go and sign the log. I think it is up to the owner too. If the owner thinks your log online log was not good enough for them they can let you know. If they never notify you then they never cared. Just be courtious and let them know what you did and that you logged it.
