  1. Depends really if it has the capability to do both car and ground navigation. As my Garmin nuvi 265wt doesn't i prefer to download the caches to my iPhone and then plug in the coords to my trusty Garmin Etrex HCx Vista i have tried using the nuvi but its mainly better for car navigation to the cache site.
  2. Thanks for clarifying that! So, if discussions are now permitted, is it also permitted to use GCzII to access data from the Geocaching.com web site? I didn't intend to post a solicitation (athough I realize that is what it was), I was just trying to empfisize that the developer (Tom Hiro) is not even accepting donations. Does this mean discussions are allowed ? Or the app is permitted ? Or both ?
  3. Heres a picture of the decypher coin in the cache. I really would like to pick one of these up myself. Could someone point me to a site i can buy one. http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/2962/p1010114.jpg
  4. The idea for puzzles is for you to figure them out. If left doesn't work try right. I'm personally too stupid to deal with puzzle caches so I just ignore them. Yes i was simply asking what that code meant in reference to GC.com in no way was i asking anyone to solve the puzzle for me. I was wondering if the ROT13 had any special reference thats all. Easy. It uses ROT24, instead of moving the letter by 13 digits, it uses 24 or just 2, depending which way you go. From: hkxgugxpg. You get: fivesevne. h - 2 = f k - 2 = i ... The software CrypTool can do this for you in a very convenient way. There you have to enter the encrypted text and select Caesar for decryptiong. Don't forget to tell the programm to use 24 instead of 13. GermanSailor Thank you for the site this helped tremendously and i had no idea what Caesar encrypting was before this so thank you. I am going to go try this now. Thanks for the help.
  5. Just found my first letterbox puzzle cache and i'm a little confused as to how to read this. The cache gave me a long code to decypher and the box contained a lizardtoadz decypher coin. This is what the paper said http://img30.imageshack.us/i/p1010116am.jpg/. My question is when it says gc.com uses a rot13 (rotated 13 spaces) does that mean to the left or the right. Thank you in advance for your time, ScoutGopher
  6. Is there any way to change the program to read the distance in miles instead of kilometers ?
  7. I'm just wondering what is the best geocache you've found? Maybe it was a great camo job or an impeccable hiding place. describe how it was hid to.
  8. I'm sorry this might seem like a real noob question. How do i save multiple gpx files at once to be imported into my geocaching program? I purchased the premium membership and i'm not real quite sure how to do it.
  9. Likewise i use my garmin nuvi 265wt in conjunction with my garmin etrex legend h. I use my garmin nuvi to get me to the general area and the etrex the rest of the way to find the cache.
  10. I have a question. I noticed the garmin etrex has a built in option for searching for nearby geocaches how does that work ? I've connected the garmin to my pc several times to run the updates for it and nothing seems to work. Do you have to download geocaches from the website directly for the function to work ? Edit: i'm sorry i meant to put Garmin Etrex Legend H. If a mod could edit the topic title to say Garmin Etrex Legend H that would be much appriciated.
  11. I agree. I think that instead of dictating what software should and shouldn't be used. Why not develop an app for winmo similar to the iphone app that is compliant with the TOU. Then we wouldnt have a reason to go use software that isn't. I've just got done trying cachemate and its a good piece of software but i enjoyed being able to download caches on the fly. Trimble is fine too but i am a samsung smartphone user and trimble currently doesnt work on my phone. Even if it did why would i pay a monthly fee when the iphone users have a one-time fee for use of their app. BasicGPS as well doesnt support non touchscreen phones. If such an app was ever developed i wouldn't have an issue paying for it.
  12. Nope it will not help as i have premium and it didnt make a difference for me.
  13. CacheMate. Thanks, I will give cachemate a go and see if it does what i need.
  14. I have another question for you guys. I want to be able to pull up caches on my Samsung Blackjack 2. I noticed that the BasicGPS app as of now doesn't support non-touchscreen devices. My question is is there an approved app that i can sync beforehand the descriptions for the caches so i don't have to carry around a printout. Is there one that i can pull up descriptions, hints, and cache logs.
  15. Thank you guys for your time. I still have a lot left to learn about geocaching and the rules of the site. BasicGPS looks like it will be all i will need.
  16. I apologize didnt know it was against the rules. I will not continue use of the program. I know its my fault for not having known that. I guess i will switch over to the iphone then. Is there a approved geocaching app alternative for windows mobile ?
  17. Any of you having problems with the Windows Mobile geocaching app called gczii. Ever since geocaching.com went down for maintanence the app quit working. I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing problems with it. Every time i go to search for nearby caches it always returns with the Alert Cache not found error.
  18. There is this one cache down the street from where i live that trips me up. The cache description says that the extraction tool is provided. I've had several clues about this particular cache being on a street light pole somewhere. My question to you all is what do some of the extraction tools you have found look like.
