  1. This is a bit of a Sticky Wicket, isn't it? It seems that possibly Bluesnote used that exact name for his category proposal years ago. The real solution would be for him to delete his proposed category, as it appears, to me at least, that now it will never become a viable category. No, the only related categories I can find, both from 2010 and both by Bluesnote, are: Daughters & Sons of the American Revolution Historic Sites Son's of the American Revolution Plaques and Monuments There shouldn't be a conflict with either of those. HMMMmmmm... Unless there really is a third one, you may have to resort to our Wayfroggie for help here. Keith
  2. Well, Phil, I didn't know you were an officer in said category. Had I known that I would have REALLY gotten on your case!!! Keith
  3. Yeah, it has happened here a few times in the past coupla weeks. Most times I also get booted from Waymarking and have to log in again. Keith
  4. There are dozens of Waymarks just like that in Satellite Image Oddities. It's the result of a poorly written or conceived category and very permissive reviewing on the part of the officers. Confession: I've even submitted a similar one to the category when I needed the category for a Lucky 7. Keith
  5. Could you possibly make the name/title a bit longer?? As it is, it's barely a single line in length! Seriously, though, all you need is "Daughters of the American Revolution" - nothing more, nothing less. The Expanded Description will supply Waymarkers with any further information they seek or need. Other than grammatical errors, the rest looks serviceable. One example is: Waymarking Daughters of the American Revolution Monuments, Memorials and Plaques worldwide that are permanent and in a public place where everybody can visit it. - Which should read: Waymarking Daughters of the American Revolution Monuments, Memorials and Plaques worldwide that are permanent and in a public place where everybody can visit them. Otherwise it's usable as is. Keith
  6. PREEMPTIVE STRIKE: An obvious objection to the proposed category is/would be redundancy, in that DAR Markers have already been Waymarked in other categories. Allow me to here state that a Catholic Cathedral will easily fit in a minimum of four categories. It's more likely that 10, 12, or even more may be found for said structures. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I've gotten more than 35 Waymarks and many categories from an Anglican Pro Cathedral. Wikis are almost wholly redundant, most National Historic Sites will offer several categories; ofttimes, many categories can be squeezed from as pedestrian a site as a Vintage Movie Theatre (see Andreas' post in This Thread). Waymarking is replete with further examples, the remainder of which escape me at the moment as the result of short term memory (lack of, that is ) issues. In any event, for a category as worthy as I feel this one to be, the issue of redundancy pales in comparison to its historic value. Keith
  7. See the above to answer your question. I stand behind your becoming the "mother" of the proposed category. EDIT: Stupidly, I had initially assumed the word "father" to be the correct choice of genders here - then had an epiphany ("Daughters of the American Revolution"). Keith
  8. If it's all the same to you, I would greatly prefer that Crazy4horses be allowed to proceed with the category, given that she is a member of the National Society [of] Daughters of the American Revolution. As such, It is more than likely that she is better placed to produce a category, and a category proposal, acceptable to the community at large than is yourself. I understand that you were "First on the Scene", but I feel strongly that, in this particular case, Crazy4horses is the person for the job. Keith
  9. I would empathize here that as yet we've had no issues photographing splash pads. I will add, though, that, for the most part, we've never bothered trying to photograph splash pads in anything but smaller communities. There, people generally aren't paranoid to the extent that more urban types are. Also, choosing an appropriate time to do your photography would seem the best solution. "Being a scruffy old man" - some (most?) days that describes yours truly to a TEE! Keith
  10. I have a few which have been waiting patiently for this category to come into existence, so I am Totally Behind your going forward with your proposal. It's about time! Kudos to you for being the one to finally drag DAR Markers into the light of day. With well over 100,000 photos to sift through, now I just have to remember where I encountered the DAR markers!
  11. Creating and launching a new category is an admirable, yet difficult and time consuming, dream to realize these days, Chris, especially if it is to be done properly and correctly. I'm fully aware of the failure of the initial Splash Pads proposal and felt, back then, that it should have become successful, as I do today. Though Splash Pads are currently accepted in two categories, Municipal Parks and Plazas, and Fountains, I have never been in favour of their acceptance in either. As such, I have always believed that Splash Pads is deserving of a separate and unique category. I believe that Splash Pads should NEVER have been accepted in the Municipal Parks and Plazas category as they are distinctly different entities. With regard to the Fountains category, again the two are distinctly different, both in construction and intended purpose. Though I realize we're rehashing "Old News" here, I remain, as have I always , in favour of Splash Pads' being afforded the unique and distinct category that it should have enjoyed for over a decade. Keith
  12. Kai, I'd have thought that you and Freddie would be "Up In Arms" if there was one in "Your City", yet is no longer. You need to petition the city council to have it reinstated and rebuilt, if only for Freddie's benefit!!! FREDDIE Keith
  13. And here we have Andreas, as usual, brilliantly elucidating for the uninitiated the myriad avenues through which Waymaking can actually be accomplished!!! Well Done, Andreas!!! Keith
  14. And now there are 51 Ways to Leave Your Lover!
  15. Indeed, Ivo, you are correct. BUT, twice failed doesn't necessarily mean thrice failed though, so I shall "Give it another shot". That failing, we shall have to resort to our Wayfroggie. Keith
  16. Oh Oh! It's Ivo again, with yet another bizarre, off-the-wall concept he wishes to purvey upon all the gullible and unsuspecting Waymarking consumers! Whoa!! Just a second here! I've actually heard, if not read, of the Hanseatic League, way back when, when I was a young whippersnapper, eager for knowledge and willing to read (almost) anything recommended by knowledgeable, estimable persons of my acquaintance. It's time I did some reading, but in the meantime, I have to say that the guy may have a possibility here. I'm not saying he's unearthed a "Slam Dunk" winner here, but, given my predilection for history and historic categories, I immediately found it intriguing. GO IVO!! - Meantime, I shall attempt to further edify myself. Keith
  17. And that's never happened to you before? Oh well, not atypical for a Texan!
  18. Hiccup = Glitch Unfortunately for yourself, the system experienced a glitch, thereby somehow inadvertently sending said category to the Category Master List. It was certainly NOT a case of Groundspeak's "making" it a category. Therefore, there was no "decision" to be reversed. I'm sorry that that happened to you, but you must understand that The System is susceptible to the occasional hiccup, which is just what happened in this case. Unfortunately, today Splash Pad Waymarks have been accepted in the Fountains category for quite some time so there's now no need of a separate, distinct, Splash Pads category. In recent times the community has come to frown upon new categories which are wholly redundant with an established category, leaving your Splash Pads now an unwanted orphan. Sad, but true! BTW, believing, as the result of experience, accompanied by a smidgen of knowledge, that the Splash Pads category which suddenly appeared in the Category Master List was, indeed, a glitch, I submitted a Waymark to the category in the hope of bringing it to the attention of the Powers That Be, which it did. Mine may have been the first, or the fifteenth, submission which was denied by said Powers That Be. I have no way of knowing which, as all previous denied submissions, should they have existed, would not have been viewable by myself. In any event, Chris, there's no need to let what transpired here bother you! Just Keep on Waymarking and Having Fun! Keith
  19. Mebbe you've heard the REALLY old advertising slogan "Let's get Mikey" - or possibly not, as it may have been, to my limited knowledge, only a North American thing. Best bet here is "Let's get Bootron". BOOTRON - are you tuned to this channel?!?!?! Keith
  20. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Bootron! I guess now we have a TIE! - - - - - You, too, are THE BEST!!!!! But then, had you guys not messed up in the first place we wouldn't be here... ... ... Naw, 'S OK, you're STILL THE BEST!!!!! Keith
  21. Thank You, Erik, for addressing the problem for YoSam. He had contacted me and, since I had never encountered such a problem, I never even tried to address it through a bit of experimentation and instead referred him to you, guessing that you just might be able to "make it right" in one way or another, which you did, however circuitously!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!! And Thank You for bringing the problem to the forum, getting Bootron's attention, thereby getting it remedied!!! Again, YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!! Keith
  22. It's entirely possible that (many of? - -most of?) the declined WMs should have, instead, been Waymarked in the appropriate state/province/etc. category. That's just a guess but, speaking from personal experience, I too have, waaaay back when, posted to Signs of History, blissfully unaware that a post should have, instead, gone into an existing state/province/etc. category. I believe it's a common fault among newbies. Should such be the case, a bit of blame should be shouldered by the category's officers for not having made sure that a submission couldn't be better placed elsewhere. I understand that can be a bit of a PITA category for that reason, but officers with a couple of years of experience should no longer have problems in this respect. Keith EDIT: Strangely, as yet I see no new declines among my WMS, though I do believe there must be a couple or more that should be declined, if memory serves. LOL - Me, referring to memory when I can barely remember my name from day to day. Should declines for the reason outlined here be experienced, No Problem! Just resubmit to the appropriate state/province/etc. category.
  23. You're welcome, Ivo, but as yet I've had no reply. Guess I'll have to nudge the Northernpenguin one more time. Keith
  24. Sure, Ivo!! I just joined the group and wrote Northernpenguin, offering my services. I've done quite a few Bailey Bridges, so I'm pretty familiar with them. Keith
