  1. You bet. A very nifty tool for geocaching for a variety of reasons. You'll see it mentioned frequently in this forum as a being used for one thing or another. There's a reason the author calls it the "Geocaching Swiss Army Knife". Have a look at it here: www.gsak.net thanks. See my edited reply above. I figure this: download GSAK, go to geocaching.com and transfer GPX files to my PC, into GSAK, do what I want with the info, e.g. modify waypoint if it is a puzzle cache that I have solved, and then somehow?? transfer the whole thing to my Colorado. Is this correct? In a word ... yes ... Others more familiar than I with the Colorado will be able to walk you through the process of transferring the data from GSAK to your Colorado most efficiently/effectively, but you're moving in the correct direction.
  2. Actually, with the Oregon (at least on my 550t) there is the capability of "Entering the next stage" which - again, on the Oregon - would (I believe) solve that problem. I obviously know nothing about the Colorado ...
  3. That is accurate ... exactly what I was told by Garmin "Customer Support" today. Thanks, Garmin!
  4. I'm going to be traveling to Tuscaloosa this weekend, 9/23-24/06, to visit my son, daughter-in-law and grandson (age 5). I hope to introduce him to caching and wonder if there are some highly-recommended, grandson-friendly, probably non-micro caches that any of you'd want to recommmend. If it makes a difference, they live near Indian Hills Golf Club. Thanks for any ideas you can send along! Milt (NuvoSeeker) nuvoseeker(at sign)yahoo(dot)com
  5. Looks fantastic - seems to have worked just right to give me just what I want for the looong trip upcoming ... saves the game of plotting out ZIP codes, drawing circles, etc ... all in all a great addition to the service you offer Premium Members ... Thanks!
  6. Tools=>Options=>General then change the "database folder" That'll do it .. Thanks, Coach! Milt
  7. Sorry if this is redundant, but I DID do a search - and found nothing. I'd like to install GSAK on both my desktop and on my laptop and have them both use the same set of files. I have made the GSAK directory on my desktop a network "shared" directory, but can't seem to find a way to tell my laptop version of the program to look "there" for it's files. Any thoughts? Thanks! Milt
  8. I understand that NAD27 is old-and-different, but am confused about the newer formats... are NAD83 and WGS84 the same thing ...?
  9. I apologize if this is redundant, but I've done a couple of searches and don't see this question asked, so here goes ... Is there any consensus as to whether Microsoft Streets and Trips or DeLorme Street Atlas is the "better" desktop mapping program from a geocachers perspective? I use - and like - GSAK, so compatibality with that program is critical to my selection. I have been using Microsoft Streets and Trips 2004, and not overwhelmed by its usefulness ... but that may just be my lack of understanding of its features. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  10. While we're at it, what's the "standard" as to logging/reporting repeat visits to a previously-found cache to either remove or place a TB? There's a TB hotel near my home that I had previously "found", a find that I logged as "Found It" at that time. I just returned from a trip during which I picked up a bug in another city. The location of the TB hotel (near an airport) is such that I thought it might be a good place to put the TB I picked up on my trip, to help it reach it's goal, so I went back out there today and dropped off the bug. I logged the pick-up and drop-off on the TB's tracking log, and also wrote what I did in the TB Hotel on-site log. Is it also appropriate to "Post a note" on the TB Hotel's Cache page reporting what I did, or is that overkill? If it matters, the TB Hut site is: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...4f-4a84328b94bc and the bug in question is: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=82179 Thanks!
  11. In simple terms, please, (for a non-technical person): What are the differences a person should consider among rechargable Alkaline, NiMH, NiCad or Lithium batteries for use in an Etrex Vista GPSr? Thanks! Milt
