  1. I am sure that $$$ is the reason, but think about it, where can GS get so much free advertising as from buxley's site? probably 9/10 of the 'links' from his website will get you too GS. Also, alot talk of cross listing, and listing only on Navicahe, but at least in my area most don't. Just to make sure I don't miss any, I need to use both, and Buxleys sure used to help with that.
  2. In my area, most caches over 6 months old are full of junk and signature items. Most have nothing the kids want, and it got me last week when I read the cacher before me 'took where's george dollar, left signature item' .... left a business card printed on a home computer..... how tacky. My kids hardly want to go anymore because of the junk and signature items, they don't want the home made junk....

    Jeep Tbs

what is there to figure out? it's a TB.......
  4. Dollar store has gallon jugs(containers) clear and in different shapes with a screw on lid that also flips open.... and you guessed it for $1. I have several of these out and after 2 years and over 50 visiters they are still in great shape.
  5. If you won't if the cache owner doesn't want you to, what about the land owner or manager? Do you ask them ? Maybe every land owner/manager should be asked and have the final authority. Do you think they would allow any caches placed on their land if we said "we are part of this hobby geocaching and want to place a cache on your property, oh and by the way there will be times when 30 or 40 cars will pull up and 60 to 80 people will tear over to it. I just believe this form of caching is going to hurt the hobby in the long run. at least that's one man' opinion............
  6. I feel the same way about the cache machines as I do about the locationless caches. How hard is it to have someone hand you the book to sign and log? About as hard as it is to find a yellow jeep, or a Baptist Church. As far as the cache machines, not everyone can say that they would have found it either, after all there are such things as a DNF. but then if I had it my way, I would do away with the public viewing of cache numbers, as to me, my 40 or 50 legitimate finds mean alot more than your 300 which were from cache machine hunts and locationless. at least that's one man's opinion...........
  7. and I suppose they all call them finds, log them and pad their numbers. ha, that is why the numbers don;t really mean that much to me.
  8. If it is a county building you would need the county supervisors to approve it. They are the only ones who could do that.
  9. I think there are several varities of cachers: 1. the families (they want the kids toys to keep the kids happy. 2. the collectors (they want a signature item) 3. the outdoors people (they are just in it to get out and about) I am a 1 or 3 depending on if kids are involved. did I miss anyone? I know all caches can not appeal to all either.
  10. who would have thought log a coin? I know if I had'nt seen this topic I wouldn't have went to the web page or thought it needed logged anywhere. I know alot of cachers that never read the forum so they probably have no idea to log it either. I would just consider it a signature item and stash it away. (that is if I was one to pick up signature items, which I am not) but for you I would just be happy that someone thought it was neat enough to pick up and be happy with that.
  11. I usually stock mine or restock one I find with a variety for everone: a small doll a set of jacks a small purse a mctoy a beanie baby a small action figure a hot wheels a small flashlight a uno game a yo yo a compass a screw driver set a flashlight a padle lock a wooden train whistle a flashing bicycle or jogging light an oven mitt hot bads earings measuring spoon set a timer I usually try and start with a good assortment so that mom, dad, or any of the kids can find something to trade. after 2 years mine seem to stay pretty well stocked up, I have added to them a couple times when I have checked on them. Dollar store or walmart seems to work great. alot of items for under a buck. The camping section of walmart has alot of good little cheap things. So the next time you are in KC, head up north.
  12. when I first started there were caches with alot of great trinkets and the kids had a blast. Seemed there were alot of families with young kids going caching and things were good. Now it seems that all the good items get removed or were never there to start with(?) and all that is left is a few cheap items the kids don't want, and signature items which they don't want either. So the kids don't want to go, which in turn makes it tougher for me to go. I am not really in it so much for the trades as just to get out with the kids. It just seems around KC anyway that things have changed and the families are not as active as they used to be. Alot more single cachers out and about. at least that's one man's opinion.............
  13. I wonder if they would still charge even if you said I am happy with everything the way it is, don't refurbish anything just reglue the rubber. Guess I didn't even think of sending mine in, I would have had more in postage than the double sided carpet tape that I used to glue mine back on. Took the rubber all the way off, cleaned all the old residue off with rubbing alcohol, cut double sided carpet tape to go all the way around the unit, and carefully positioned the rubber back on. Is working great and holding up fine.
  14. 164044 since I signed up, wonder how many of those are from me spreading the word?
  15. is there any way to tell what number we are? (As in I am number 1200 to register out of the 14,000 registered?)
  16. snideswipe, I think you should come to my house tonight and I will take a closer look at it.
  17. good, then you "TRINK UP" at the cache site? me too
  18. I would superglue the wound shut and go back and remove the pipe myself. How would you explain being where you were without mentioning geocaching?
  19. Yea, I have seen alot marked like that, but some seem to change so much that if they are not maintained or restocked as such they completely change from the way they started..
  20. UH oh, did someone mention MICRO? Yea, I made that mistake once.... took off without seeing we were on a micro chase...... another no-no with the kids... If it is just me, I will do the micros, but I must avoid them with kids along..
  21. I for one, go for the outing, the walk, the drive, nature, etc and mostly just sign the logbook. I could care less about any of the items. I do always try and throw in an extra McToy, or a hotwheels if the cahce is low (as most in the KC area are). I have seen too many caches with 2 or 3 signature items and that is all, in that case i would leave 2 or 3 kids toys to help build it up for the next ones... just doesn't help that my kids just hunted 3 caches and are ready to go home. Maybe the caches need to be marked as to what they hold? As in a regular cache for kids, or a regular cache for adults?
  22. Those lovingly created handmade items are worth nothing to a child on a cache hunt. Ever see the face of 2 kids when they open a cache and see only those items? They would rather stay home next time.
  23. A couple comments on signature items. Most of them that I see in caches are not wanted and left to be thrown out. Most things like a card, a wooden nickel, keychain, etc. with a geocachers ID on it are left till they get so dirty or falling apart (cards) that they must be thrown out to keep the cache 'clean' looking and not like a trash dump. I know my kids would much rather get a choice of trinkets without someones name or email adress on it. Kids trading trinkets are really the only trading I do, as I don't want that crap either. I also see alot of "left signature item and took 1942 silver half dollar" or "left signature item and took flashlight" , etc..... Come on people you call that trading even or up if you bought 100 signature items for $10 and trade 10 cents worth of item for $2.00 worth???
  24. Condemn and ban with only an accusation? I agree with woodster, there must be more to it and we have only heard one side. But I do think any threatening email from a cacher is uncalled for, I for one know I would have no problem emailing any cacher and asking if they still have it, and to please move it on.
  25. Just wondering what went wrong here? If you passed the TB on before christmas, did you not log it, or was there a problem somewhere else that kept it from showing as logged and passed on? And a simple nice email from him could have solved it easily.
