  1. I think that's a fantastic idea, as long as I'm not required to get coordinates - I might not always have my GPS with me, or I might be on the move (I chased a car w/ a TB sticker for about 5 miles one night trying to get the tracking number. No, I'm not joking.). I agree, the pitstop idea is virtually the same. I read through the entire log and apparently there was no response from GS. Anyway, there it is and I believe it has merit as do others who are apparently seeking similar capability for tracking purposes. Thanks for commenting! svaquarelle
  2. That would be a question for the geocaching.com website forums. Thanks, I will pose the question there. svaquarelle
  3. Cachers, I suggest a discussion revolving around the various merits/downside of adding an optional lat/log field to a Discovered TB. This might increase participation on auto and personal bugs. Depending upon the complexity of doing this, it might also be useful in recording mileage on items which tend to spend longer periods of time traveling between caches. I invite all comments, positive and negative assuming that this is technically possible to accomplish. Thanks for your consideration. SVAQUARELLE
  4. Thanks for all the input guys. I recommend adding an optional lat/lon field to discovered TB listings in order to track approximate geo location and mileage of the bug when discovered. Possible, practical, desireable? SVAQUARELLE
  5. That being the case, if your car bug is discovered and not logged into a cache, does that mean there is no means of recording travel mileage? Is there a provision of the Discover it to input a location/lat/long? Thanks for the quick reply! SVAQUARELLE
  6. I see from the GS site that you can put a TB on your car and also sew a TB Patch to your jacket making them trackable. So how does this work? Do you log them in and out of every cache you visit? If you see one in your travels, do you log it into the nearest cache or do you just forget about the caching and log the relevent TB page? Do you discover it from an unknown location and place it back to an unknown location? Please explain! Thanks! SVAQUARELLE
  7. Yes I am, we are waiting some supplies from National. I will put you on the list. Thanks! My understanding from the Get in the Game folks at Groundspeak is that HOAC has yet to request their kit. Let me know if I can assist. svaquarelle
  8. Gents, Is anyone from the Heart of America Council working on this project? I am a Cub Scout leader and interested in helping/organizing/participating. Thanks for any information? svaquarelle
  9. OK, I am convinced that the TB is not the correct tracking tool for my idea. It would work if there were caches at airports (not talking about commercial airports as much as private and small general aviation airports.) however, in looking over the map, this is the exception rather than the rule. You are correct that a book traveling with a stuffty would do the trick, but this really subverts the object of bookcrossing as I understand it and I don't want to do that. A dedicated web page which could be logged onto with an event recording look (diary) similar to a TB journal but without the need to reference a cache locatin would probably work best. Everyone could access that with the correct code and log an entry before sending the item on its next journey. I am certain Groundspeak could easily do this, kind of like they morphed Geocaching into Waymarking. Anyway, thanks for the input guys! Onward! SVAQUARELLE
  10. SVAQUARELLE! How would the item be tracked? It seems like your intent is to have the item picked up dropped off at locations other than caches. Trackables can only be logged in an out of caches (including virtual caches, but not EarthCaches). Cachers know where to find the travelers as they appear on the various cache pages. Another consideration, since you specifically mentioned airports, are you actually planning to leave "an unattended item" in a airport or having some one else travel with an item that could be considered questionable (origin and/or exact nature unknown)? Hopefully you can see the potential for problems there. On a releated note, however, are you possibly thinking of something that is more along the lines of a book? If so, are you aware of bookcrossing.com? Ok, very interesting on the bookcrossing...but, not a book, a stuffty. Is there a tracking system you know of which just posts a traveling around page...like the TB's personal journal without having to associate it to a cache? So could it be removed to an unknown location and still log journal entries? Thanks for the input. SVAQUARELLE
  11. I am new to this and wanted to ask advice before launching a TB attached to a plush toy. In your experience, how large can a toy be and still travel sucessfully? Also, without giving away exactly what I am going to do, I suspect that this item will not always land in Geocaches. It may travel through airports and be picked up by interested travelers. This will expose them to the whole Geocaching deal as long as some fairly detailed explanation is attached to the TB and toy. Do you have recomendations how that is best achieved so a newby can log on and log the movement of the TB, see where it has been and understand what to do next? Thanks! SVAQUARELLE!
  12. ladies and gents, Questions about geocoins. Considering how many folks are out there collecting coins, how do any of them continue to travel? I know this is a bummer view, but what keeps collectors from just scooping them up and they just dissappear into an unknown collection? I ask this because I like the idea of having a personal coin or two made to travel. Thanks in advance for your perspective.
