  1. Thanks for the replies.

    I agree with everyone :lostsignal:

I like to know where I can park, it may not necessarily be the closest to the cache. For the poker series, had I had a Bruce Trail map, either on the GPS or paper, I may have done the series differently. The trail is great and if I knew it took me from cache to cache I would have followed it.

Just using City Select does not show how the trails link up and does not always suggest the best parking. Several times the GPS suggested I stop temporarily on the 407 or 401. :D

Still it all makes for an adventure.

  2. I have just completed the Virtual Poker Tour by Res2100. Excellent fun.

Whilst tackling the final stage I wondered if I would have been better of with Topo maps on my Garmin 60CS. There are loads of caches in this area along the Bruce Trail. I have no idea where the Bruce Trail goes or where to park. I normally end up taking a very hard short route, rather than a nice hike.

Does the Topo software include trails, especially the Bruce Trail and does the autorouting work with it (I think not). What are my alternatives? How do I find out where the caches are on the bruce trail and where the best access point is?

    Thanks

  3. Well I have jumped on the band wagon and got my 60CS, upgrading from a Legend. It is every bit as cool as expected. Having read just about every post here most of my questions have been answered.

2 questions remaining, when looking at the units in the set-up what does "Statute" mean? Secondly, with all its amazing functions is there anyway to automatically enter the parking coordinates given in the description of some caches.

I think my finds are going to start going up with this unit - just getting to the area is going to be so much easier. If only the 60CS could clear my drive of snow too.

  4. As the title says, I am on the verge of upgrading my Legend to a 60C but I have a couple of questions you may be able to help me with.

First how does the autorouting work? I load in the relevant section from City Select, then what? Can I enter an address or does it have to be a waypoint? How does the GPS direct me. Am I going to be constantly looking at the screen and rear ending the car in front????

The second question is, being Canadian, should I buy in Canada because of the base map. I ask this becasue there are some good units on e-bay in the States, but they claim to have the US recreational base map?

And a bonus question... Should I really be looking at the CS - is the compass and barometer worth it. I am thinking not due to the extra price and faster battery drain. I have read all the other Garmin 60 threads so I think this answer will be 50/50.

Okay I lied - it was more than 2 questions

  5. I had a similar problem and moved to our 2nd PC running XP Pro. It worked fine. From an experience at work I know Dell PCs have conflicts or something and the problem is resolved in the BIOS. My first PC is a Dell, the second PC is a generic thingy. I haven't tried changing the BIOS on the Dell - why bother it works on the other machine. That is about teh limit of my PC understanding - hope it helps or someone can expand on it. One of the previous replies did mention BIOS settings.

  6. This is not a tale of life and death excitement. We went out for the day to do a bit of shopping and as much caching as possible. Whilst standing in the second shop I happened to notice my choice of footwear.

Kept Mrs. Boxer Crew chuckling for the rest of the day.

  7. I know this has been covered before, but I can't find the old threads. Does stuff get archived after a month or something?

Anyway - the original threads had loads of stuff, I just wanted to add "hand sanitiser"

Really useful when you are out for the day, sticking your hands in who knows what. Thought of it today when eating my lunch!

  8. Okay, went on to do a s earch for my second question of the day and found the answer to this question. Keystone had it all written down. Now I have to work out how to do it. The answewr says to load the picture to my profile page. This page says only cache photos can be uploaded --- I think.

  9. Neo, - thanks. I guess I couldn't see "delete all waypoints" for looking.

That did it. Now to load the local ones and off we go.

I did look through my manual but the deleting waypoints isn't in the waypoint section. Having said that I didn't see the right line on the legend, why would the manual be any different.

    Babble, babble, babble.

    Thanks again

  10. Having used GSAK for a few trips I have decided to set it up properly, with individual databases. This bit is fine, however I now have over 700 waypoints in my Legend which I want to delete. How do I delete them all and start from scratch?

PS - just in case, I did a search and it came up empty.

    Thanks

  11. Good to meet you too. We had a great morning, then had to find another cache to drop the TB off. Did you make it to Barrie?

Looking forward to any new caches you do. We are still looking for inspiration for our first hide.

    Cheers

  12. 2 newbies - 1 who knows where they are going, 1 who doesn't. ;)

Sounds like fun. I sent you a pm.

Then read you are away this weekend. :)

Let me know when you are avaiable and we will set something up.

  13. Finally, I had a couple of spare hours to try this. Obviously a couple of hours isn't going to be enough. I got to the second stage. I think I know where it is, looks like lots of activity there. I unfortunately didn't help. I couldn't find the cache anywhere, I think I looked at every tree. All the logs say it is easy and may get muggled - ummm. But you say you have changed it to prevent this, does the waypoint at the first cache still point to the second.

I know - this is an easy excuse for me not finding the cache. Anyway I had to leave to go back to work, and I had been there too long. Didn't want to get arrested for hanging out in the bushes.
