  1. Hi all We moved away from the area 3 years ago and I haven't actually cached for a few years before that. Having said that I still have an old cache along the bruce trail in Burlington. Kernel Caching (GCR050). It's still going strong and I would hate to see it go to waste. A good old traditional cache. Are there any active catchers in the Burlington area that would be interesting in adopting this cache? It needs a new logbook and maybe a bit of maintenance, but its worth trying to save! Let me know if you're interested. Thanks and happy caching, you never know I may have to start doing it again! Boxer Crew Adam
  2. Thanks for all the responses. I had it in my head that coyotes were much bigger than they obviously are. Bruce Trail, here I come
  3. Hi fellow cachers, It has been a while since I posted on the board but some recent stories have me a little concerned. Over the last few weeks I have been hearing more and more stories of coyotes being seen and possible aggresive in and around Waterdown/Carlisle area on the Bruce and other trails. Yesterday as I was on my way out I read the headline of the Flamboro News - Coyotes in Carlisle. This had me on edge all day, upto the point where I started doing the urban caches. My question is "should I be worried?" Is there an issue with coyotes in this area? Should I be carrying a really big stick? Thanks Adam aka Boxer Crew
  4. Hi there, or Aloha if you prefer (this is a copy of a post I have on the Hawaii Threads Geocaching site) My wife and I are fortunate enough to have won/earnt a trip to the Big Island in March. I have been doing a bit of research into local caches and have had some good advice from TGB, Escondido and Konagold, including pointing me towards this website. I have a reasonable idea of the caches I will tackle, but I am looking for some more advice on the Shark Cave cache. Can anyone recommend a dive shop that would take a novice diver out to this cache? I have had a few suggestions but have not had any luck yet. I think this cache would really be the icing on the cake for the whole trip. And while I have your attention can anyone recommend a whale watching outfit, any cool Hawaian restuarants, and (I hestitate to post this having read a related thread) can anyone recommend a decent tattoo shop - something else to remember this trip by. We will be staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village (Kona Kohala coast) but hope to get around a bit. As for a little background - we are originally from the UK, currently living in Ontario, Canada so looking forward to some warmth. Our geocaching name is Boxer Crew, as we have a couple of them! Thanks for reading, and any advice will be gratefully recieved
  5. I haven't been on this forum for a while - but, well you see last night our cat chewed the arial on my 60CS so I thought I would have a look and see what peoples suggestions were. You have no idea what it is like to look at your own desk on the internet without having posted pictures. The differences, mine is a CS, I used Lepage glue, I didn't add the second layer of black tape. What phase was the moon in last night????
  6. When you upload from GSAK to your GPSr, do you check the box that says "Clear GPS before sending" in the upper right corner of the window? That will be what I was looking for! Will it just clear geocaches, or will it clear everything? Cheers
  7. Is there a way to automatically remove archived caches from the GPS (Garmin 60CS)? I use PQs, and delete the GSAK database on each upload. But I spent last weekend looking for archived caches that were still on my GPS. I have deleted everything on the GPS this time and started from scratch. Is there a way to do this automatically though? Thanks
  8. I am trying to load city select on to a second unit but I cannot get the unlock code to work. I have my unlock code for the first unit and my customer number from Garmin. Can someone please help/. What do I need to do? I have a flight to catch in 12 hours, and I still need to pack and sleep. Talk about last minute....... Thanks
  9. How do I get GSAK to automatically load the .zip files from a PQ now that there are 2 fies in the zip folder. I have tried everything including downloading the latest patches and clicking on "excluding waypoints" I keep getting a file not found message. Help please I am going nuts.

    Snow Shoes

Rather than hijack Keiths thread, I am considering buying snow shoes this year, but are they worth it. I did several caches last winter and never saw anyone with snow shoes on. When do they become an advantage over normal boots. I seem to stick with caches on the bruce trial type terrain. Thanks for any advice.
  11. Is it possible to directcly import the results from PQs into Mapsource on the PC. I know I can load the waypoints onto my GPS then read them into Mapsource, but can I do it directly? Cheers
  12. Hi, Just convinced my father-in-law that GPSs are the future. Now they are currently staying with us in Ontario and we did some checking on prices. Basically the 60CS is £140 ($300) cheaper from GPSCity.ca than the equivalent shop in the UK. I know the basemap will be wrong, he is going to get the navigation kit for Europe so no problems. And the kit is cheaper in the UK. What am I missing? Why doesn't everyone from the UK buy their GPSr from North America? Or have I just let the best kept secret out of the bag. Thanks
  13. Nay from me too. Not enough traffic, and some of the BC discussions are interesting
  14. My is a serial port, but that is not the problem. Once the hotsync is complete and I go into Cachemate it imports the records. This is the part that takes an eternity.
  15. I am using Cachemate on a PAlm Vx. When I hot sync the results of my PQ it takes ages (over an hour once ) for Cachemate to import the 500 records. Is this normal? Is it time for me to get a newer PDA? Thanks
  16. Is it normal for GSAK (an excellent programme) to take a while to close. I seem to have to wait for several seconds, and when the PDA is hotsyncing it doesn't close at all. Also, on this current version, I can get the mail okay, but it saves it in the zipped form. How can I get it to save in the unzipped format? My macro almost makes live effortless . Thanks
  17. Cheers!! I'll give it a go on the next trip
  18. Hard Oiler, Any chance you could post your 2 filters for the 401 pleeeeasssssse. I have just started using both these stretches of the 401 & 402 abd caching sure would make the journey more fun. I have attempted to set up an arc, seeing a working one would make it much easier. Many thanks
  19. I'm getting the routing lock up too. I hope Garmin can fix it quickly. Seems like a significant bug, it's not like this is a rarely used function!
  20. That happened to me too. I want to see how often it happens before downgrading.
  21. mloser, Thanks for the input, you confirmed some of my thoughts. I think the missing data for Windsor did not help. The route calculated to return me to work still amazes me though. The average speed for Dundas must be really low for the garmin to think it is quicker to go for 30km, rather than 2, both on major routes. The moral is not to trust a machine implicitly
  22. I have the detailed maps from city select for the areas I was travelling (although I seemed to have missed Windsor) If I put it to the shortest route, I have to make a gizillion turns rather than crusie down the 401.
  23. HI everyone, I've just come back from a road trip, unfortunately no time for caching but plenty of time to play with my 60CS. I drove from Toronto to Windsor, the autoroute was fine until we got to Chatham, about 2/3 of the way. Then I had to get some gas. Originally the route was to Ambassodor Bridge and it was fine. After getting gas I said go to Windsor, the autorouting wanted to send me all the way back round Lake St. Claire???? An extra 200km. On the way home from Detroit it did the same thing, all the way upto Sarnia and down the 402. Once we crossed the bridge at Windsor the route was corrected. But it still made a few odd turns that made no snese. As I got closer to work, say within 10km, the 60CS wanted me to drive and extra 20-30km just to use the 407. I had it set to fastest route. Why is it sending me all over Canada? This is a 60CS question, not a CAnada question so I hope it is in the right forum,. Thanks
  24. It's been said already, but here's my piece. Use the resuce organisations to help decide on a breed that suits your personal needs, and get one from the appropriate charity. Guess which we prefer!
