    Acronyms?

Here ya go. This helped me a lot when I first started. http://geolex.locusprime.net/
  2. As uninformed as their ad might be, I dont think it's a big deal. Anyone that becomes interested due to their ad will end up here and will be able to clearly see the rules and how the hobby really works. Besides, nobody is going to learn about the sport through a $349.99 AD and just buy it without doing a google search on "Geocaching" first. It's not like they're gonna buy the GPS, stop off at a field on their way home and bury their loose pocket change...
  3. I've turned several friends into geocachers and they've been using their iphones to find them. However they are too lazy to create an account so they can log their finds. They don't really care I guess.
  4. Sounds like a resurrection of having a pen pal, except limited to a post card. Its like crossing a pen pal, twitter, and a one night stand.
  5. I realized when someone asks and I say geocaching, they look at me like a deer in headlights. So now I just say "I'm on a scavenger hunt" and if they hang around and ask more questions, then I'll fill them in and refer them to geocaching.com
  6. I new to this hobby also and just purchased a GPS last week. At first, I was looking at the Garmin etrex H. It can be found for about $80 http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Handhel...7499&sr=8-2 I quickly changed my mind to the Garmin etrex Venture HC because of the color screen, $115. http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Venture...0/ref=pd_cp_e_1 In the end, I found a good deal on the Garmin Legend HCx ($148) and I jumped on it. Mainly because of the card slot and ability to load detailed maps.
  7. So I can download maps from gpsfiledepot and install them onto a memory card that my etrex can use?
  8. Im new to this great hobby and after some geocaching with my iphone, I decided to buy an etrex legend HCx. I got a great deal on one, found it on sale for $148. The first thing I noticed is that the maps are very... plain. After reading until my eyes hurt, I'm still not 100% clear on whether or not it is possible to get my maps to look more like the GeoCaching.com iphone app: (This image is a screen capture of my own iphone. I just want to make my etrex look similar.) Out the box, the etrex doesn't show terrain and streets. It only shows major highways. If I understand correctly, if I want streets I need to buy them from Garmin for $99? And if I want terrain maps, I have to pay yet another $99? After making a short story long (sorry), my question is, Is this the only way? I'm not willing to spend $200+ on maps for a $150 GPS...
