  1. I have recently found The Great War Memorial GCJ986. I checked out the web page and looked at the map, it has changed.

    1) It does not show any other caches close by as I zoom out, just itself. I found the is the same on other caches. This feature was very useful when planning several cashes on a route.

    2) On this particular one the cache initial location is shown on the wrong side of the road. I don't know what was like before these changes.

    Anyone else noticed these problems

This changed back in June (the 2nd I believe). As FantasyRaider said click on the first link under the heading:

    For online maps...

Which is to the right of the map on the cache page and you get the old map, which you can zoom and move around to your hearts content. ;)

I am lead to belive that caches do appear to be slightly out in google map view and this is deliberate? or maybe the coordinates of the cache are slight out?

Now I have found what you are all saying.

    1) Click on Other Conversions

    2) On that page, click on geocaching.com google maps

Then you get to see the original style maps.

    Many Thanks

I was sad when i noticed this too but someone told me to click on geocaching.com google maps.

    (below listing)

Hey presto, it's the same as it used to be when clicking on the map

No I have tried that and no caches are shown. In Firefox or Internet Explorer.

  4. Not sure about the Vista HCx. (Haven't used one)

But GSAK has the ability to send caches as Geocaches or Waypoints...

    Have your settings changed?

Have the settings changed on you GPS ie from Geocaching mode?

The problem was the same whether I sent it from Gsak or individually from GC. The GPX file had been produced the same day BY find caches along a route. from Hersham to Derby. The 2 in question were in Derby.

The only difference I have noticed on on GPs is if I have used a different symbol to mark somethingi.e. a flag if I put something in againg it stays as a flag.

  5. Hello There Waspbuster,

The reason the way-points are doubling up is because you haven't deleted what's alreaddy in there.

Your caches are way-points that are categorised as Geocaches. The 60csx can hold up to 1000 way-points at any one time. If you put the same way-points in time after time you'll eventually get to the 1000. You can't put any more in unless you delete what's already in there and then start again.

There's a section in the manual (page 72),on Geocache setup, "To access the Geocache setup page: On the Setup Menu Page, highlight the Geocache icon, and press ENTER.

    Hi Bernard,

I had cleared everything off my eTrex Vista HCx. The point was that I had downloaded 9 caches to it. When I looked for them there were only 7. The two that were missing I tried a few times to add but still nothing, I then manually added them.

It was only when I looked for one of them I found there was several references to it. I did not have time to search for the other one. It was only when I got home I found that they had been put into wayponits and not geocaches as the others had. So why were they added to waypoints but they both had the geocache symbol?

    Peter

  6. Its not a distance issue is it? not sure about your gps but depending on how I have mine set up it only shows close caches( and looking at those two caches looks like there far away from each other). Can you search by name?

I tried to search by name and search by distance, with no luck.

But I then found that they had been put into GPS as Waypoints. If I searched by name under Waypoints they were there and they were on the map as well. Others had been placed as Geocaches.

    Why should this be?

Of course when I got to one of the caches in question this morning, namely GC249QD, I clicked as found. Then find next, low and behold, the next was the same one. This happened several times, probably the number of times I had tried to download it to the GPS before I finally put it in manually!

    Peter

  7. I have just tried to down load 9 waypoints to my eTrex Vista HCx, when I checked only 7 had been transfered. I tried it several times, all with the same result. I then tried sending just the 2, still nothing. I then tried the 2 that had not been transfered directly from GC. Guess what, I was told they had been downloaded but still I had nothing.

All the waypoints I was working with on Gsak had been produced from a pocket query today.

Does anyone have any ideas or is it just another problem with the GC upgraded pages.

The two caches involved are GC249QD & GC23FAQ maybe someone else could run a test a see if they get the same problem.

  8. I was/am using the greasemonkey script GC VIP List until (I suspect) very recently there has been an upgrade to geocaching.com.

Instead of my VIP List all I get is a 'Thumbs up and like' which leads me to a popup for entry to facebook, not what used to be there. I have no inclination to use facebook and never have.

Has anyone else had this problem and have you found a way around it.

  9.

I've just added two <br> as you said and it works. I don't understand the reason why. I have also tried two <p> and that works. Neither gives the the blank line break I had intended but does a better job. I have tried it in other combinations, but all go back to the original problems.

Interestingly the source code shows the two <br>'s as <p><p><br> and when you go back to the edit page they are just blank lines.

Your solution is much better than it was.

    Many thanks

Would you be so kind?<br />

I think I have cracked it, not ideal but it certainly works. I got the idea from "BB Code Help" and it is to do with lists. Normally you write

    "square bracket" List "square bracket"

"square bracket" * "square bracket" List Item 1

"square bracket" * "square bracket" List Item 2

"square bracket" / List "square bracket"

    where

"square bracket" =[ or "square bracket" =]

    Giving a bulleted list

    • List Item 1
    • List Item 2

If you miss of the start of the list i.e. "square bracket" List "square bracket"

Under Additional hints you will get an un-bulleted list

Put a [*] in the middle you will get a blank line

This works at the moment of course it may not in the future

See my cache GC24ZWV to see it working.

  10. Some TB's don't update their movement stats until the evening batch process. There's a drop down option to recalculate the mileage on the TB page itself. I've gone ahead and done that for you.

    Many thanks Raine,

I've located the drop down that you mentioned.

  11. My Travel Bug (dog tags) TB333N8 has been placed for the first time. On the associated log it say that the T/B is 220.0 miles from my Home. On the T/B's page the map says it has traveled 399ft. On the map it clearly shows that it has been moved from Surrey to Cornwall and says that (in the second entry) 216.7miles.

Anyone have any ideas why this would be?

  13. Hello Waspbuster,

You've got, (if you look at the source code),

Vavgvny ybpngvba "zntargvp" <p>Svany ybpngvba "ng gur onfr bs n cvar gerr" </p>

Which is decrypted as (again this is the source code stared to keep secret)

    ******* ********* "********" <c>***** ******** "** *** **** ** * **** ****" </c>

Remove the <p> and </p> and insert two line breaks <br> in their place, that should sort things out. (I think).

  14. The whole page refreshing was a bug which appeared a year or so ago. They finally got around to fixing it on Thursday.

Does it matter if it is on a single line?

Well it's a multi cache each line pertains to each cache. As it is now on one line there is no spacing between the end of the first line and beginning of the second. I feel the layout is quite important.

What you be really nice though, would be able to to decrypt each line separately but I think that is going a bit far.

  15. Something has changed when clicking Decrypt on "Revealing Additional Hints". Prior to this, the page completely reloaded, now it just reveals the hint. Which is a good thing as it used to take some time reloading if I was in a bad area for my Vodafone stick and laptop.

Some hints had two lines (including mine) and when in the old days the page completely refreshed the hint came out on two lines. Now in modern times in comes out as a continuous single line.

I've tried to add HTML code to get my own one to come out correctly using <p> and <br> but these are just ignored. This happens both in Firefox and Internet Explorer

Has anyone else had this problem and an answer.

    Regards

  16. I am writing a description for a new cache. I would like to inset a picture as part of the description. I have seen it on some of the caches. The question is how do I do it?

I don't want this to be an additional image in the gallery.

I would be grateful for any help in this.

  17. You guys are so off topic, that I feel I must say something about it.

We try to show each other respect in these forums. I have no idea why this was brought up, but what a way throw a thread totally off topic.

To the OP, at the top of the geocoin forums is a thread called "Groundspeak's Current Coin Tracking Policy". That's the one you want to read. Since trackables are not all geocoins, it applies to other trackable items too.

    Many thanks Eartha,

I was a little bit disappointed when this "argument" started. Ruud4d did answer my question earlier, that I could buy 50 trackable numbers from Groundspeak. If I decide to go all out on placing trackable items, doing it that way will save a lot of money. 50 numbers @ $1.50 each = $75 at todays rates that's £49.95. In UK 5 Dog tags = £19.95.

Do the Math, in the economic climate at the moment every pound / dollar saved is a bonus. As this is a good healthy hobby then it is worthwhile pursuing.

  18. Post a Note on the cache page and before you hit submit scroll down to the bottom you should see the travelers available to be selected to Drop.

You would have to at least save the cache page first even if you have not submitted it for review.

 Many thanks, that has done the trick. I then deleted the note afterwards.

    Regards

    Peter
