I too found an unreg. CA coin in a cache a few weeks ago, thanks to a generous cacher! Of course, maybe I should now blame him for my current new addiction. I made sure to trade fairly and unfortunatly, that ammo can cache went missing severeal days later. With this coin craze, it sure is nice to find one while caching, I have 4 that I have found including a Santa Cruz one last weekend and they mean the most to me as I have memories of where I found them. My first found coin was a CKyacks last summer that we got out at Mavericks beach during the big surf competition. That was one workout to get to and the coin find was a total surprise, felt like it was a reward for the effort it took to get to the cache! Sweet!

Yeah, I would have liked to add a silver to my gold order but I need to sleep so I can be fresh for the Cito/coin event that day. oh well, too bad a 4 AM decision was made.

That is a very nice coin. I do not have a personal coin yet but my goal as a new coin collector is to at least get all the local Bay Area cachers coins as they have the most meaning to me even if I haven't met them yet, most have at least hunted one of our caches. Nothing related to the game but I did want to ask about the thumbnail images that appear in some logs. (like my puppy) Why do some have them and not others?

I want to add that I really appreciate all this info as I had been thinking about a personal coin myself about 6 months ago and then we slowed down and took a break in caching for the summer only to come back and find thuis craze! I now have the same intentions as you do in that I would want to make one just as a personal signature item for trades and sharing but like you, those initial costs scared me. The breakdown above helps and I may someday still go ahead but I really want more input from others in our area if and when we decide to go ahead.

Yep. I IM'ed WoW and he said he and Marky also haven't gotten any. Probably why I was able to get a FTF on a cache last night that had been active over an hour already, something almost unheard of in this neck of the woods!

I just want to say, despite our late start, I am having fun, not only reading this thread but doing the research and going on the hunt for the qualifying caches! Makes it feel like a scavenger hunt and a race all in one and I plan to finish it even if I miss out on the coin hand out. If I miss the coin, so be it, won't be the first time procrasination cost me something but it's no biggie as it's the thrill of the hunt and getting outside that makes it fun, I will just give myself a 'GeoBrownie' point.

I don't think I saw this question posed yet. Can one join like 5 days into this and make logs retroactive to start on the 12th and log one for each day to catch up? or am i just 5 days behind everyone no matter what? (changed days from 3 to 5)
