  3. Hiking and caching up to the Hollywood sign is a must. If you're in the area between 9/17 - 9/23, my group is hosting a CITO at Venice Beach on the 17th, and there's two events on the 23rd you may want to attend. One is on the Santa Monica Pier and the other in West LA at a coffee shop.
  4. Can I leave feedback? Of course! That’s why we’re testing them. Shortly after Block Party, we’ll send a survey to everyone who found a Lab Cache. If you have other feedback, feel free to post it in the forums. My two cents: Attended Geocoin Fest 2013 and not sure if you'll be sending surveys so I'm posting in the forum. I was caching with an Android phone and the coords or navigation system lead me across the freeway from one cache. Not sure if it was an error on my part, but the hider may want to double check the coords. Someone caching with a GPSr may not have access to the internet out in the field like I did to look up the address and navigate to it. BTW, are these hidden by Lackeys of the Mega Event organizers? When I received notification of the lab caches, it was unclear when we could begin to find them. It wasn't until after I entered the code to the cache that I learned that others found them the night before the Mega event but at that time there was only two logs so I think I was not the only one who was confused about this. If I knew that I could find these caches before the event (because I had to leave after), then I would have done that to spend more time at the actual event. It also would have been nice to be able to re-visit the page to read others' logs and to dip trackables for miles. By the time I found the lab caches, I learned that one location was never given a log and another lost the faux rock that was hidden outside of its business. So, I assumed that the other two I found didn't have containers and logs either and just looked for the code. Although it was easier to find the code and move onto the next cache, I think I would have preferred getting out of the car to sign a log, speaking to the business owners and financially supporting their business since they supported our hobby. Lastly, (and this is just my preference) I would have preferred to just drive to one place and walk around to find lab caches. I know that the lab caches for this event wanted to highlight certain places in town that we may not normally visit, but I prefer to park and walk to save time, gas, money and the environment. Thank you. (Steps off soapbox)
  5. I attended yesterday's Geocoin Fest 2013 event in Las Vegas, NV and the site I was directed to said that the caches would last for eight days. Note that I visited the site days after receiving the announcement so the expiration date was probably set to an even number like 10 days. After the expiration date, the find should remain in our stats and I assume that if they dump the idea of lab caches that it should remain there too.
  6. It took a few weeks to get mine, but it came with a leaky battery that ruined the pedometer. I put in a request for another one and I'm waiting for a reply.
  7. I signed up for this study too. Just got my pedometer a few days ago, but it came with a leaky battery. I tried replacing it, but the battery acid ruined the pedometer. I requested a new one and I'm waiting for a response. Hopefully, they will replace it but I guess I could always buy my own pedometer and continue the study. Did anyone else receive a bad pedometer?

What about Lake Hollywood Park so that the group picture would have the Hollywood Sign in the background?
  9. Kinetix42 gave the best advice. You can use Griffith Park's website and Google (Satellite and Street View) to find the parking lots or the FEW places along the road to park. How much time will you have? If you don't have a lot of time, you may just want to drive through the park and find the caches along the way. The Observatory and The Bat Cave (nearby parking and short walk) are must do's. If you have time for some short hikes, I recommend Amir's Garden. There's nearby parking and a few caches along the trail to the garden.
  10. Anyone out there planning a WWFM event?
  11. Thank you. Are you a part of the San Fernando Valley geocachers? Would you mind passing this message onto other members? It would be great to send more requests for this museum.
  12. Just attended my first WWFM event and I am in an Event Cache state of mind. I plan to attend more local events and I hope to attend a future Groundspeak Block Party, Geo Woodstock and GPS Adventures Maze. Now, the block party will always be in Seattle, WA and next year's Woodstock will be in Lakeland, Florida. Because they're far from my home, my best bet is the maze which can travel to any city. However, I need your assistance to make this happen. The maze came to northern CA, but it hasn't come down to southern CA. If you're interested in claiming to find this cache, please go to this site to request a location for the next exhibit to be at southern CA museum. If you're from the Los Angeles area, I suggest the California Science Center in downtown LA. If you want to go the extra mile, please also email the California Science Center suggesting that they invite Groundspeak's Maze exhibit to LA. Thank you! (steps off soap box)
  13. Ending up going to the SD event, but I hope you plan another one next year! I'll be sure to attend and will also volunteer to assist.
  14. Hello again, Lost track of this thread for a while. So if anyone is interested in trading, please contact me directly. My name was formerly "Umreeh" so the coin won't say "Thavia". Thank you.
  15. Experiencing the same problem and the maps were working earlier today. Sounds like a job for... Google Maps!
  16. Just wondering if any LA County cachers are planning a WWFM event in June. Currently, the nearest event is in San Diego and a two hour drive for a 15 minute event is not practical for most people. I'm not up to hosting my own event just yet, but can assist anyone who is thinking of organizing one.

  21. Is this cache still active? If so, I have a signature wooden coin you can have for your cache (see profile pic). It's not much, but let me know if you're interested.
