  1. This won't come as any surprise...but if it weren't for the Admins, Mods, and Approvers...we'd all be wandering aimlessly in the woods, or just using our GPSr's for making breadcrumb trails of our travels. To all of "them", your selfless efforts are GREATLY appreciated - and a special thanks to Honeychile for her super work as an Approver in my geo-area. Regards, Bill
  2. Congratulations!! Feels good don't it
  3. Four was the most...3 YJTB (2 found, 1 received from Groundspeak) and a TB I retrieved from a cache. Two of the Jeeps have been released, the 3rd will be shortly, and the "regular" TB was also released. I don't usually hold onto a TB for more than a few days. I have 2 day workweeks, and 5 day weekends - so I get out to cache a lot
  4. Not only do I write pretty long DNFs, but I also write fairly long Finds as well. I enjoy telling the story and don't think I get carried away -- I rather think of it as "complete"
  5. Good to know your Jake was rescued...that would have/could have been so sad. Thanks also for posting, I was thinking about doing the same thing...met a Cacher at one of my caches a while back...their dog (Gus) is a Travel Bug with a tag attached to his harness. No chance of the tag getting caught that way, but I was just planning on hanging a tag on our dog's collar - not now. Regards, Bill
  6. Oh yeah!! As if geocaching isn't exciting enough already...now Jeep and Geocaching.com have to go and find a way to raise the bar I had to work Friday, but my wife (Moosemama) was off and drove up to Maryland to snag 2 YJTB's...she was really surprised that they were still there (had been planted the day before). Great little TB's...both will be released this week in Virginia. Regards, Bill
  7. I think my better half is truely "bug bitten"...she drove 60+ miles yesterday in an attempt to find 2 YJTB's...and she did - find them. They do appear as separate listings on your "Stats Page", and also appear as a yellow Jeep icon on search listing pages. Great marketing idea...for both Jeep and Geocaching. This may add some additional excitement to a hobby we already enjoy. Regards, Bill
  8. Wing_Nut hits the "Century" mark with Villanova Micro. Here's wishing you many, many more.
  9. J & T - thanks for the ressponse. I've used all 3 query methods; the waypoint, postal code, and entered my home coordinates....all to no avail - the results still come out "jumbled" not sorted from point of origin. Thanks, Bill
  10. Hi, Although I've been a member for a while, I've only been a premium member since April. I have really enjoyed using pocket queries for the .gpx functionality, and also for paperless PDA caching. I thought that downloads would be/should be sorted by distance from point of origin (cache ID, postal code, or coordinates); however, my downloads are not. It isn't too bothersome with waypoints (I can sort them from an anchor point using EasyGPS or other software, but it is a bother when cache distances are random on the PDA. I'm using the current version of Mobipocket on a Handspring Platinum Visor. An explanation of the sort by distance feature, or suggestion on how to correct what I may be doing incorrectly would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Bill
  11. Howdy, REI sells them for $2.95, and if you buy on-line and have them shipped to a store near you...shipping is free. Regards, Bill
  12. Howdy, I am fortunate enough enjoy 5 day weekends, but seldom score a FTF in my area (I think I only have 2 thus far). Geocachers in the Greater DC Metro area are a voracious lot, many cache on the way to work, during lunch, or on the way home in the evening. I think it depends more on the time of day you are lucky enough to receive notification of a new cache in your area. I wouldn't worry too much about "sharing FTF's"...if you get what other cachers feel is "too many"...they'll do their best to take the wind our of your sails by beating you to the cache if they can. Regards, Bill
  13. DNF's are sort of like hemorroids...lots of people get them, most don't like to talk about them, and they are a pain in the butt - but ( ) they happen! I posted a DNF yesterday on a cache that I could not find, but also feel may have been destroyed or stolen. I sent the owner an e-mail letting them know my suspicions, and described the cache location - asking for confirmation. I plan on going back out to that same area today to hunt a couple other caches...and will swing by the "missing" cache location again for another search. If I do end up finding it, the DNF will stay in the log...if I am unsuccessful I'll just post a note and hope the owner replies to my e-mail. So, in closing, if you get a hemorr...er, DNF then post it...if may help your friends/fellow Geocachers understand why you're so grumpy . Regards, Bill
  14. Oops, that portion of my post should have read "within 100 or so miles from my house".
  15. The DC Metro/No. Virginia area is very cache dense...I think there are just over 2,100 within 20 or so miles from my house. Many are Virtuals in DC on Natl. Park Svs property, but there are still 100's of traditionals, multis, etc. What I've found though...is that most hunting trips are putting 35 to 45 miles on the odometer, not complaining though...we feel fortunate to have such a wide variety of choice. Regards, Bill
  16. Hi, A previous poster (Seamus, I think) said that they had the same feeling when they found their first at age 26....heck, I'm crowding 60 and I still get that feeling with each and every cache. The fun continues...welcome to the "club". Regards, Bill
  17. GMRS isn't all it's cracked up to be (at least on the inexpensive consumer type radios), it's an antenna limitation. FRS (most cachers do use channel 2) works just fine depending upon line of sight obstructions. That GMRS license is $75.00, lasts for 5 years, and covers everyone in the immediate family. Regards, Bill
  18. Sure, any one of three (MULE, BlowFish, HAWG) depending on the length of the hike and heat of the day. Lots of pockets in each, attachment points for extras, and the previous comments about freezing the water is spot on! Regards, Bill
  19. Gaiter, Congratulations on the finds, and also thanks for the hides...you're and "all around Super Cacher" Regards, Bill
  20. I downloaded and installed the new (USB supported) version of EasyGPS (1.3.6) yesterday...and it runs great! Unbelieveable speed However, I have not been able to use the "Tile View" highlight and drag feature though...the older version allowed you to drag waypoints from open files into a new file. I miss that feature, has anyone else experienced this...and do you have a work-around solution? Regards, Bill
  21. Thank you for the "tile" information with EasyGPS...VERY neat. Regards, Bill

Hi, I believe the 60C functions are the same as the 60CS. Go to the Main Menu page, select Setup, select Tones...make sure Message Beep is selected (and Mute is unchecked). You should then receive a message (Arriving XXXXXX) and tone when arriving at a Goto, or when on Route. Regards, Bill
  23. Joe, we'd love to attend the event - but I work on Saturdays, what time will the event end? Regards, Bill
  24. Sparky...we're all kids at heart I vote for a restock & "Grand Opening". Regards, Bill
  25. Hi, Well....that depends upon which NG Topo software you have. The RINO works flawlessly for me on MidAtlantic, but to get it to work with Back Roads Explorer I have to set the NG setup dropdown menu to Garmin GPS V or Street Pilot III. The same goes for setting selection with my 60CS. The rub there is that most, but not all, of the icons are compatible. Before I figured that out for myself...I e-mailed NG 3 times for assistance. That went nowhere...you'll soon find out that no matter how little you know about the NG mapping software...you know a lot more than the folks that answer the mail Regards, Bill
