  1. I agree with Sissy. We do this together, with one account. there have been 3 times we did not go together, once I wanted to get a FTF (after that I no longer cared if I was FTF) another was to get a TB and once he went without me to a spot we had been twice before. Other than that we can wait for eachother. We decided this was OUR hobby. I have scrapbooking, he has XBox but WE have geocaching.
  2. I always look for hand made stuff first and thats what I take. My son who is with me looks for WG$ and tradeing cards (i.e. Poke mon cards) so I place both type of things in cache's. Our first sig. item is a beaded keychain. As for offending someone with religious items don't worrie about it. I think there is a big difference between religious tracks and a book marker with a cross on it.
  3. More stuff, more to choose from, less often you have to restock
  4. I'm in SC and will be visiting Orlando but not till Nov. I guess that doesn't help you much.. Good luck!
  5. I do live in SC and I am in Charleston. And for the record I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have been here 11 years and came here from CA seeking a better place to raise a family and I found it here. If you have never been to Charleston you need to understand it is very historic. For that matter I could see them banning cacheing from the whole city under this law. I love that fact that we have places to hide nice ammo boxes all over for thoes of us who prefer them. There are grave sites all over! Some with only a half doz. graves. Some are between houses, some are forgotton about., some are part of parks now. There is so much history here that I have learned about by doing caches that required me to read graves and get numbers off them. For thoes of you who don't care because you don't live here or "can't wait to get out" remember your state could be next!
  6. Here in Mt.Pleasant SC we paid $1.97 on our last fill up. But if you close your eyes when you put your credit card in and don't get a recipt it doesn't hurt as much.
  7. The owner said he would replace the baggie with a film canister so my guess is he will put thoes items in his cache. You could E-Mail him again and tell him to put your trade item in there.
  8. As the mother of 2 boys I would want to know. It could be a good 'teaching' moment. Be nice to the parents though, if you get angry with them they will get defencive with you. Let us know what you decide.
  9. Out in the forest with good books in it to trade
  10. Gotta trust Sissy and CR they live in my area... The south! With lots of water and swamp areas don't know that bugs are any worse than they are here in the summer and durning nice weather!
  11. My son likes to take WG $ and log them and we just put "found in..." whatever city and state the cache was in then put them into circulation. We figure they don't need anymore info then that then we won't "offend" them thinking geocaching was involved
  12. I guess you don't know him as well as I do, I think he would have enjoyed geocaching. He would have loved watching all the children play in the parks and the family's spending time together. He was human, and enjoyed the things human's enjoyed. Not to mention I bet HE could have figured out Fendogs puzzle caches!
  13. I leave both items for kids and things adults may like. Things I have left include: Mini flashlights, cool pens, items from the geocaching store, keychains, stickers, charms, etc. I would like to find starbucks gift cards! I like to find sig. items as well.
  14. I guess it would be better it you defined religious themed. I have a cache on church property put would not consider it religious themed. It is a historical building and has a nice garden. Thats all I intened for people to see. With regards to religious item in a cache, I have put gold crosses in a cache. This is not what I concider religous. If you don't want to wear a gold cross around your neck or on a key chain don't take it. As for tracks, religious tracks were made for the perpose of "introduceing " people to God or religion. This goes againest the guidlines of useing geocacheing to promote something. That is the only purpose or tracks. I would concider myself a "religious person" but have to agree there is a time and a place for everything and geocacheing is a game/sport not an avenue to convert someone to something. If it is a cool place that is fun to see, put a cache there. If it is a puzzle cache and I need a bible to look up a line that gives a hint or number to a cord. fine just check yourself to see what your agenda is and make sure you don't have a hidden agenda. Use your common sence, peoples motives can offend me but the words God, church, cross, blessings do not. Thumperness
  15. Keep me posted, would love to meet the other cachers in the area. Thumperness
  16. Any more sig. items lately? Still trying to decide what to do.
  17. I too "salt" a cache sometimes when the kids are with me. Also, I carry a bag of swag with me when ever we cache and stock when needed which is a lot. Remember pay it forward? Thats what we do. Every time I go to Walmart, Target and drug stores I always go to the clearence isle to see if there is any cool swag. When my son sees me now he asks "is that for a cache?" he knows, and its a good example. He gets excited when he finds a WG$ (he likes to record them on the computer) or one tradeing card (1.99 for 8 of them I think) If the kids still enjoy cacheing, I get to cache.
  18. To keep my son (6years) interested in geocacheing with me I will pick a cache that I see someone has left a WG$ or poke mon card/yu gi o card in it to be our first cache of the day so he will still think the possibility is there of finding thoes things again. If the kids stop enjoying it, it will not be fun for the rest of us to lissen to them. So far this has worked for us
  19. I can't let this go without adding my opinion. I am a PK which stands for Preachers Kid. My mom married our priest when I was 11. There were many times my parents took us kids to cemetary's to run around and play and read the head stones. It is not always a sad place. A lot of these people are in a better place now then they were before. Cemetary's are for the living not the dead. The dead are just that, dead. My parents believed the dead would have loved to have children running around enjoying the area. My father baried a lot of people in his time, before becomming a priest he ran his family's buisness which was a funeral buisness. I'm not saying yell and scream while someone is visiting a loved one have respect for the living people who visit the area. I am saying enjoy the area. If that means walking around reading headstones while watching your GPS so be it. I am from Southern California as well and thoes cematary's are not as fun as some of the old forgotten ones in the South. Here in South Carolina they are all over, some with just a few graves, some on resadentil streets, lots of them next to churches, a TON of history here. I will go find your caches in a cematary and I will bring my kids to run around while I do it Thumperness
  20. Congrats!! Did you say "with the help of your wife..." Just wait till you see her in labor you will see how little YOU had to do with it You will now take on a different type of Geocacheing. Lots more 1/1 cache's and when they are a little older you will find yourself "stocking" caches for your kids to find so they continue to cache with you. Our boys like to cache with us (ages 4 and 6) You just let them play on the playground after you find the cache and only seek out regular cache's so they get a prise. I can't emagin not haveing kids, I Love being a parent and you will too!!!
  21. 98% of the time I go cacheing with my husband and 2 kids. I find the family look makes us look less suspisous when there are muggles around. I do live in a very safe area but have to admit the cache I found this week gave me the willies as there marsh all around and I'm sure gator. I thought I heard something slip into the water. When I got home and read the post from the owner she says she checked on her other cache farther down the trail and the gator were very close! Now I know why I got the Willies! Guess people don't scare me but the creatures do! Thumperness
  22. I'm working on finding a puzzle cache and am running into a problem The 1st coordinates take me to the starting point of the search. No problem... From there I'm supposed to go at a heading/bearing of 34 degrees for precisely 1399 feet. I have a couple of issues now: (allow me to ramble) I can get a general idea of which direction to go. But once I go a little further than 500 ft. the distance turns into like .1 miles. Should I be able to make it display feet only. (I'll give GPS specs later on) What I really want to be able to do is stand at the starting point and tell my GPS to make a new waypoint 1399 feet away at a heading of 34 degrees. Is this something I should be able to do and what is this procedure called? Waypoint, map, what? My GPS is the Garmen Etrex Venture. Sorry if this has already been asked but I could not find an answer on the boards.
  23. The husband likes computers, creating web pages, and XBox live. I enjoy Scrapbooking and doing things with my kids. And, I can combine all three of my hobies. We take a picture at each cache we find and I put them into a scrapbook along with a short story about that cache and the kids like to go Geocaching and "reliving" the caches by looking through the scrapbooks!
