  1. We cache as a team, the Mrs. is 35. The Mr. is 37. A lot of times we bring the boys ages 5 and 7. hard to have too many hobbies with young kids. The mrs. likes scrapbooking, the Mr. Web design and xbox games.
  2. Just wondering, what did you end up doing? How did it turn out?
  3. This might be a little off topic but... I have just heard about chiggers (not sure if that is how you spell it) actually my husband got them while checking on our cache. Since then 2 more cachers have gotten chiggers while seeking our cache. Is this just normal this time of year? Should I put a warning on the cache page? Its not a hard cache to find, only about 10 min walk from the parking lot.
  4. I have to admit I am comfortable cacheing alone in my area (and Im female) my biggest scare was thinking I heard a gator go under water while cacheing a a swamp area.
  5. Probably the biggest reason is just because they're the "latest thing. They are a novelty and their fascination will die off quickly just like the YJTB's of last year. Another reason is the hope of wiining a brand new Jeep or other prizes.. How can someone win a jeep?
  6. Please don't jump all over me for not "getting it" but what is the deal with the WJTB's? I watched one go in one of my caches and about 4 people were there that day looking for it. How are these different then other TB's? Why do people want them so bad?
  7. Since I always cache with my kids I try to think about the next kid who finds the cache. I want them to find something. So even if I take nothing I leave something. If some items are broke I will toss them but I replace them with a better fixed item. I figure its just a trade and I always trade up. Just my 2 cents worth
  8. Ok I can't believe I'm going to give away one of my best shopping secret's BUT... I go at least once a week to the Target accross the street. I only shop the end caps away from the main isle. This is where all the clearence items are. Always scan the item as it is usualy cheeper then the last orange price. I have put $10 items in a cache that I got for $1. Also, Walmart puts their clearence items in the main isles but thoes go fast. When ever I am in a drug store/CVS I always to to the clearence section. I just found tradeing cards there for $.10-.50 usually they are around $3.00 a pack for Poke mon and Yu gi oh cards and these are things my son goes nuts for! I always look in the clearence section and always have the thought in my mind "would this make good swag?" Sometimes I hit a jack pot and stock up!
  9. Could someone who is better at letter writing than me write a letter to who we should be writing to at this point in the game for me and I could tweek it and make it my own and send it to the right person. Before today I think I was following along, now I am lost as too what actually got passed and how we want it changed. I want to help but not sure how to be the most effective. Thanks
  10. We have a cache at a church as well and I KNOW she did not call that church. If she would like to call that Priest directly I would happily give her his home number. Yes he knows it is there and is happy about more people enjoying the beautiful property
  11. Never had a problem here, then again our computer automaticly updates its virus protection every night. And you know this exactly how? If his PC is set up anything like mine, the anti virus software is configured to kick off an update at a set interval. Mine updates automatically every Monday at 3 am. I really should set it to update daily the way Thumperness does. He is right, mine is set up to do this at midnight. Sometimes when I get up late and check, it is the middle of doing it. In the morning the computer says virus scan is complete. My husband does all his work on the computer creating web pages and stuff so we have to be very carefull.

  13. Our kids get upset when they find out we went geocaching without them! They are 6years and 4 years. I think our kids have played in over 12 new parks in just the last 6 months! If I read there is a park near by we go caching there. They love it. There is not much we all enjoy doing but geocaching is.
  14. Before Gov. Mark Sanford moved to Columbia when he got office he went to our church. When the time is right to write him let me know and I will send him a letter. I doubt he remembers us but its worth a try.
  15. Does anyone know what channel you can watch this on if you have Directv ?
  16. David I did get your email and note your and others concerns about the geocaaching bill. I think it is too broad although I believe our cemetaries need greater protection. If the bill is appropriately amended I will support it. Otherwise I plan to vote against it. This is the reply I just got after writing my rep several times. It was from Ben Hagood I did write him one more time and again invite him to come geocaching with us as well as tell him how geocachers can actuall help police if you will thes forgotton cemitaries. It seems like it is the cemitarie thing that is the motavation here. I also mention how the pictures he saw are now known to be from another state. And how cemtaries is only a small part of what this bill is about.
  17. Forgive me but what is a TB graveyard? I have never heard of that term. I did a search on it and this topic is all that has come up. Thanks for your kind imput.
  18. Forgive me for being a little late in the game but I just sent an E-Mail to Ben Hagood (who I believe is who represents us) and a copy to Ceipsc letting them know how great of a activity geocaching is for families with special needs kids. One of the only things we can do together as a family etc. what our gradeschoolers have learned. And I ended it by inviting both of them out to geocache with us. I said sometimes its had to fully understand something unless you see it for your self. I thought that might be a good idea so they could make a informed decision. I will let you know if I get a response. (I think it would be fun to see them ride aroud in a car with my kids they will need ear plugs! )
  19. Please make one, and I want one!! oh please, oh please oh please!
  20. We had tryed several times to find a multi but could not get past one of the stages. Got a hint from a fellow cacher that you HAD to have and could not wait to go back one more time. It was pouring rain and Easter afternoon but it was bugging me. So with the kids in the car and my brother with them we said "we will just run up that hill and grab it" up we went and Jack and Jill went slideing down. Well now that we were muddy already I was not giving up. Last stage, hubby said we gotta go up that mudsliding hill... are you sure I ask... yep so up we went down we slid up we went, down we slid ah made it... now were honey I ask (this is the nice version) the gps says down we did not have to go up that last hill. And why did we do this?? To sign the log, move a TB, and take home a hocky puk. Now I know we are nuts!
  21. My step father used to have a family buisness, they own and operated a funeral home. He was a mortition. He spent a lot of his life is a cematary. Then he became a priest. So I guess you could say he marry's them and burries them Later he married my mother and took on 2 young children. We went to cemataries a lot and yes, ran all over graves and that was fine. We were taught to celabrate life and the lives of thoes who have moved on. And by the way, we are ALL going to die.
  22. I think I have read all the posts on this topic and wish there was more I could do. I live here in Charleston and have really enjoyed geocaching with my whole family. I can take the time to write a letter if someone will insure it goes to the right place and to edit it for me. Unfortuneitly my plate is full and I am fighting enough battles as it is to spend much time on this one, but here is just one more angle if it helps... As some of you know I am the mother of 2 special needs kids. Yes they walk and run so you would think we could do all the same things other familes of kids do but we can't. Geocaching is the first thing that we have found that all 4 of us enjoy and can all do together. My first son is 6 and has Extreem ADHD combined with Aspergers syndrome tendencies. While he is under controll for 6-7 hours a day while on meds he is not the rest of the time. He can not sit in a resterant, wait in line, stop talking and we never know when he may through up, poop in his pants or say or do something socially inapropreate. Our second son is 4 and is missing half of his right arm and has Autism. You never know what you are going to get but what ever it is it is usualy loud and he may and usualy does all the same as his brother. In public places he is staired at, bugged by others, kids wont stop asking "where is your arm?" even when he says "I don't know" (his speach is limited) And sometimes you just get tired of it. We don't travel much for obvous reasons. My point to all of this... Geocaching is fun not only to my husband and I for the same reasons as ya'll but to our kids it is something they enjoy doing in a safe inviroment. My 4 year old can yell all he wants out in the forest, he loves the out doors and can climb all over the downed trees without someone bugging him. Our 6 year old loves to see "whats in the box" he can spot a ammo can as well as we can. Out in the forest he can do any of thoes socially inapropreate things and its ok. We are relaxed and enjoying our selves together as a family. I have got another family "hooked" as well with 2 autisic children. They love it too. What other things can a family with members who are mentalily handicaped do together that they all enjoy??? Our boys have played in dozen's of parks we would have never knew were there. And one other plus is it is free! Wow something in America that is free! Anyway, sorry this was long but I wanted to show what other type of people enjoy this 'sport' as well.
