  1. Maybe when that forum learns not to delete its users accounts on a regular basis (I had the hide not to use it for 3 months and that was it, no reminder email or anything like that letting me know ) I also like how even though I havent been able to access that place for quite some time the members expect me to some how check it before placing caches judging by an email I recieved a while ago.......

    S32 33.38

Ive already emailed the guy and he has completed it already (never did find out which was the real coordinates though)
  3. Id like to know what this is all about. Why go around archiving the disabled caches? At least we take the time to warn others that our cache is not available(and showing that we care enough to regularly check on them) There are way more caches listed that have not been located in years despite cachers trying. Why dont you deal with those?, they are the ones that are the major problem. As for mine being disabled for so long, Ive been waiting for the area to recover enough. I know its been a long time, but the plants growing there are not exactly the fastest growing things around(specially during a drought) so I thought I would give the area a decent chance to recover from the fires that swept through there before I allowed more people to go back there. I just feel that I put more effort in caring for my caches than most, yet Ive been given less power now than someone who just plants one and never returns, and lets people waste their time searching for non existant caches, and you would know that Ive been checking as Ive been leaving notes on my observations whenever I check on my cache pages. You sent me an email asking what was happening with mine, and after telling you I will reopen it ASAP, you archived it like Im another irresonsible cacher. I think this plan of action your taking will lead people to not bothering to check their caches well fare, because its obviously is a waste of time, and worse still, not disabling busted ones so that it does not draw attention from the cache police

    Australian Forum

Its still there, but for some reason whenever you check this forum these days it automatically switches to posts in the last 30 days
  5. Im in weipa on the cape york peninsular, but I think that it could be a tad bit too far away to be of any use
  6. I can tell you now that the blue spots are moisture, and if you pull the display out and carefully pry the wedges open a little and then use a blow dryer on it for a few minutes the blue spots disappear. The bad news is this is not a permanent fix and the spots may come back. Im currently in the tropics and have huge blue spots, so Im considering trying to seal the display with some tape(after drying the display again). I can also tell you that the spots can grow bigger, mine had small spots appear one night and after a few weeks they were almost covering the screen
  7. I think you will find that some garmin owners have had the same problem with water entering the case, but if you check the seal every time you change the battery, you should be fine. Ive washed my platinum under a tap a few times to clean mud off it with no leaks. As for which model, well that depends on how much you are prepared to spend. The colour screen models are the most expensive, but can be difficult to use in direct sunlight, but the grey screens can be hard to read if there is a lot of clutter on the screen. The base models have a smaller basemap, with less detail though a detailed map can be added. I have a platinum, and have found it a great investment, as there have been more firmware upgrades for it(base model yellow and green have a different firmware), plus with the larger basemap memory, I have been able to get mine upgraded with a marine basemap(base models do not have enough memory for this upgrade). In the end, even if I had a base model unit I would still be very happy, as the SD card feature allows storage of so much information, such as waypoints, track logs, routes etc. Whenever I run out of memory for anything, I just copy it to SD, and keep on going, its excellent

I have rescued the whole cache, and am looking at placing it up here in weipa. The TB's will go back south to nsw after travelling the top end for a while. I cant get to my email account till I get back, so if you have anything to add, please post it in this thread. Jedda....
  10. Prepare yourself, it looks like its going to be another hot summer!
  11. You can use what ever you like as a travel bug, but order the travel bug dog tags from geocaching.com
  12. Gday Bronze, hows Dubbo going?. Im afraid sugarloaf went up big time yesterday and is still burning, and our caches may have been destroyed. Have not been able to get up there to see the damage yet as the roads are still closed. I dont have a suitable vehicle to be able to get to yours Im afraid, so you may want to find someone who has and get them to go out there once the roads are open and check on yours

I am going to be in cairns in 2 weeks, so if you like I may be able to rescue your travel bugs for you and get them moving again. Unfortuanately, since I do not live in cairns I doubt I would be able to adopt the cache for you. Post the coordinates, or mail them to me. If you send me email could you put something like "travel bugs" in the title, or I might think it is spam and delete it
  14. But how impressed are you with your gps when it takes you to the exact spot , doest happen a lot, but its a good feeling when it does(makes up for the times it takes you nowhere near it)
  15. I know that here in Australia, with the element of fire every summer, a metal tag could mean the survival of a TB(a few got burnt last summer, but the tags survived). A plastic tag would not stand a chance. I know that Jeremy said that the metal tags would still be available, I just thought I would point out a reason why they should be still used
  16. The colour is the base model upgraded with the colour screen, so Id say magellan has figured that they would phase out the base model and focus on selling the more expensive models
  17. Im from down near Sydney, so I dont know of the Brisbane cache areas. But if your willing to spend a day up at Noosa heads,(3Hrs Nth of Brisbane) I know of two in that region, and its a very nice part of the coast
  18. All depends on how much money you want to spend, can get units for around $200 that are suitable, to mapping units over $1000. How technical or basic do you want the unit to be. The cheaper units will be very simple with no mapping, the more money the more features. Units up at the expensive end have stored street level mapping, removable memory cards, barometers, bells and whistles... Is size important?, small fit in your shirt pocket size units can be had, though the screen may also be small. Larger units may need a pouch on your belt, but will have larger screens for easier viewing of maps. Battery consumption?, some units can last for days on a pair of AAA's, though may not be very sophisticated, a colour screen unit may chew through a couple of AA's in a few hours(depending on how its used) The two big names are magellan http://www.thalesnavigation.com/en/, and garmin http://www.garmin.com/

That forgetting about Drop Bears of course "No matter where you go..... there you are." Buckaroo Banzai Steve Erwin will want to disagree, with crocs, but only up north of course . Anyone else watch rove live last week?, "apparently eric the crocodile" from the reptile park has bitten the heads off 4 potential mates since captivity!

Dont worry about those "other spiders", worry about the Huntsmans, they will scare the hell out of you. Think of a spider the size of your hand that likes to hide in places where caches are hidden, can run like an olympic sprinter!, and also enjoy "appearing" while your driving, they love cars almost as much as they love bedroom ceilings. Wierd thing is that you would be pretty unlucky getting bitten by one as they are pretty timid, but dadgum THEY ARE BIG!! But they dont need to bite to kill, just having one in your car is enough to bring on a heart attack!
  22. Over here on the east coast of oz, with my meriplat I can see one waas satellite on my gps, but the unit does not seem to use it. I can get accuracy down to about 3m or 10ft, but usually it is around the 6-10m mark or 20-30ft. Once while on holidays up north I noticed that there were 2 waas satellites on the screen, but the unit still did not use them. Another thing that Ive noticed is that I dont get a satellite strength bar for the waas sat
