  1. Hmm..I just got a notice that my e-mail to Timmy didn't go through. THanks for your interest djstretch. Let me try to mail Timmy again and I'll let you know if he's not interested.
  2. I've got a vista for sale. I recently switched over to a marine unit, so I don't need the vista any more. If you're still looking, contact me at prinefan@hotmail.com and we can work out the arrangements. Mark
  3. Thanks for the info Airmapper. I found what I needed by searching the keywords in the Benchmarking forum. Thanks!
  4. Well, the thread title really says it all. Is it possible to run a PQ for benchmarks in a certain area? Any information you can provide will be appreciated.
  5. Welcome to geocaching! I hope you have a great time this weekend. My only suggestion for you would be to start with some easy caches, ones that are rated with a difficulty level of 1-2. Read the logs from previous finders. That should give you a pretty good indication of the condition of the cache, and possibly even the contents. Have fun!
  6. There is a website that lists all the virtuals by category. Does anyone know the address? I tried to search for it here, but I keep getting a message that says I'm unable to use the search function. Any help you can provide in pointing me to the right website will be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the information and clarification Lizooki and Cardinal Red. I think the Cardinals are going to need more help than I'm able to provide.
  8. Wow, that's all there is to it? Thanks a lot for the information. And just for being so helpful, I'm going to root for Nebraska to beat Colorado! (actually, I was already going to do that just so it would help Iowa State take the Big XII North, but now I'm going to root extra hard for Nebraska). Seriously, thanks for your fast, helpful response.
  9. Can anybody explain how to convert cooridnates to the WGS84 format from a different format? I'm not even sure what format this is in. I'm trying to convert lat 42.0277 and lon -93.6367 to GWS84. Does anybody know how to do this? Thanks for any information you can provide.
  10. Ahhh. That explains why I wasn't seeing what I wanted to see. Thank you. Now I just have to figure out how to run a pq so that I will get them as gpx files rather than loc files. I am downloading way too many to do them individually. Much thanks for your fast and helpful response.
  11. Hi, I just became a premium member and I am playing with gsak and trying to load some caches for an upcoming trip I am taking. When I load the files into gsak, I am unable to see any of the previous logs and I am unable to tell the type of cache (traditional vs. multi). Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Aren't I supposed to be able to see those things as a premium member. Any guidance/direction/assistance you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks!
  12. Hey Richard, My first item was a God Bless America pen from a cache in your old stomping grounds. By The Lake cache in Ames, Iowa. I used to work in 110 Marston. Small world, huh?
  13. Thanks a lot for the information guys. That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Hey Welch, I'm in Ames. I've seen you around at the IGO forums as well.
  14. I recently bought an etrex Vista. I have never had a gps with mapping capability before, so this is all new to me. Maybe some of you who have more experience wth mapping gps's can answer a few questions for me. First, is it ok (read legal) to buy used software. Specificially, I am talking about buying something cheap from Ebay just to try it out. I have heard that there are unlock codes that you need and that the software can only be uploaded to one or two units. Is that true? Can you load one area for one trip and then delete that information and load a different area for a different trip? I am concerned because I only have 24mb to work with. I have several trips planned in very different parts of the country in the next few months. For those of you familiar with mapsource, what are your opinions? Is it useful to have when in unfamiliar areas? Any information or opinions you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks!
  15. I'm still working on a name for this new one. I got it yesterday and went out and found 2 benchmarks and 2 new caches just to try it out. I stared geocaching with an antique Magellan 4000xl that I bought used on Ebay. That one was named The Find-o-Matic 4000. I'm just going to have to use this one a while longer before a name comes to me. Right now the only thing I can think of is "Lucille" as an homage to B.B. King's guitar. I'm enjoying reading your names and stories. Keep 'em coming!
  16. I'm just wondering if others give their gps's a "name." I just got a new gps today. Of course I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I can't really name it until I use it for awhile and get to know its "personality." I'm just wondering if any of you all have named your gps's and if so, what are their names and why did you choose that name?
  17. These are all great suggestions so far (canoeing/kayaking, rock hounding, photography, camping). I'll add cross country skiing and orienteering.
  18. Welcome! It's a fun hobby. Have fun.
