  1. It's here! My cute little Magellan SporTrak just came by UPS! Watch out caching world, here I COME!
  2. If you want suggestions for an educational cache, why not look into the Junior Ranger Program (I think that is what it is called). It's that program that they have like in National Parks. Kids come into the visitor's center and get a list of questions/activities to answer/do. When they have it completed they take it back and get a stamp in their book. This is a cool program for people on vacation with kids. You could get the list of questions from a local park and see if there are some you could implement into caching. Good luck. I'd be interested to see what you do with this.
  3. I'm planning to run in a few 10K races next year. Try training when it's -30... Not real fun.
  4. Good luck bumblingbs. Hugs and strength to you.
  5. Thanks for the reminder. I found the pre written sheet and had planned to use them. Guess I'll print one out at work.
  6. As I am STILL waiting for my gps, I have yet to find any. But I moved to Alaska because the wilderness is good for my soul. I can't get enough of it.
  7. How about emailing the "food leaver" and asking that THEY go remove the food? Is that ever done here? I'm new to caching so really I just don't know. Good luck.
  8. So I am gathering my stuff for my first cache. I am getting what I think is really cool stuff lol. My placement will be in a location that is not easy to get to and requires a bit of effort to even get to the trail. Is there anyway that I can "help" to ensure that Mctoys do not end up in it? I doubt it. I have seen people exchange quarters for things that are much more expensive/unique. I guess that is ok though to most people? I just don't want to loose all my cool stuff for not so cool stuff THEN be accused of having a lame cache lol. Make sense? Does this make me a cache snob?
  9. I wouldn't mind waterproof matches in a cache. I'm in Alaska where we had 6 MILLION acres burn this summer, and yes, I worked on them with the Forestry Division. No one has brought up the point that the area was already burned, therefore less likely to burn again due to less fuel. But either way, I don't find it something to argue about.
  10. Sorry seems no one is that interested in gc down there. I wish it was closer. I would snatch it up.
  11. Yep I camped in Denali a weekend before last with some friends who were going to stay a few days more then I. They woke up the next morning covered in snow. Maybe we can do some caching together in each others areas. I'm looking forward to getting down in that area. I know I'll be doing some skiing down by Anchorage this winter.
  12. Yes I got the pp email confirmation. Thanks.
  13. We use both. I (Boo) have a backpack carrier with an attachable bag that works pretty well. Kitty has several slings similar to maya wraps, for different times of year. I've never tried the sling, and would probably find it a bit awkward. Kitty on the other hand doesn't care for the backpack carrier. This may be one of those male/female comfort things. At any rate, our two kids are 3 years and 21 months. We started caching about a year and a half ago. Have not had any real problems, although the logistics of getting ready to go can sometimes be daunting. Male/female thing exactly. Using a sling comfortably does take a bit of practice but once you get the hang of them they are much more versitile. But I know it is easier for a female to hip carry a child due to us having hips we can use like a shelf lol. By the way, I don't recomend carrying kids on your hips for long distances. I carried my daughter most of this little 2 mile hike in Denali and boy was I sore the next day. I imagine she was too. Wish I had had my sling with me. I could have slung her on my back. http://photobucket.com/albums/v40/1stimest...ay%2031%202004/
  14. Lol yea it helps when you read the original poster's question.
  15. I just bought my first one for my first cache that I am planning at the moment. I paid with paypal but then got an error page. My paypal account shows that it went through but how will they know what address to send it to? Can they get it from my pp info? I can't wait to get that little bugger.
  16. I recomend getting a sling like a Maya Wrap instead of the usual baby carrier pack. With a Maya Wrap you can carry newborns to toddlers in front, toddlers and up on your hip or on your back. It is the most versitile carrier and only takes up a tiny bit of room when not in use. You can carry it in your diaper bag. Have fun.
  17. If there are any caches available in the Fairbanks, AK area, I would love to adopt it.
  18. Hi, my name is Georganne and I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. I also just found geocaching and am waiting for my gps to come in the mail! Yay! I have seen that there are several caches around here and am hoping to find a few before the snow falls (too much). There is snow in the forecast so maybe I'll have to wear my ski suite anyway. I'm an avid hiker and have done quite a bit of back country camping. Anyway, I am looking forward to it all.
  19. I miss catfish. I guess they don't have them up here. I just moved here last December. There are plenty of salmon in season though. Yum!
  20. My son was born in Kalispell and I also lived for a time in Polson. Montana is a wonderful place (of course not QUITE as good as Alaska) but great hikes. Have fun.
  21. I'm in Fairbanks but have friends in Talkeetna. I'll email them tonight and see if they can help.
  22. As a back country hiker in Alaska I keep my industrial strength size of Counter Assult on me at all times. I would keep a .357 but I go into Denali often and firearms are not allowed in the park. That is the only place I have run into a grizzly too. I'm new to GC and really looking forward to it. I'm just waiting for my gps to come in the mail!
