  1. The two events are not the same. Oops! After re-reading the thing, I guess I took the Challenge event wrong and made a mistake of thinking it was much the same as the Original Poster's idea of a group of folks seeking caches together. Apologies, carry on (I still think it's nitpicky )
  2. That original reviewer reply sounded a bit nitpicky to me. Not only that but contradictory, as they later state in that same reply that they will be hosting an event much the same as you had proposed. I guess what's good for the goose isn't allowed for the gander. JMHO Isn't polotics a wonderful thing?
  3. I just thought it would be a nice idea to have a specific thread dedicated to Manitoba Geocaching issues, information, ideas, events, plans, communications, introductions, acquaintance making, &c. Short of asking GC.com to make Provincial Forums, this will have to do Feel free to start using this Thread for all things MB Geocaching/GPS related. Cheers, PJ - SW Manitoba, Peace Gardens locale.
  4. A wee bit older than that I'm afraid. Try "Oh Suzanna" 1850's or so. Popular in the Civil War and Old West days if memory serves me. At least that's what it seemed to follow to my ears.
  5. I don't use it. The Fees involved for Canadians are prohibitive in my opinion. Paypal is/was under investigation for fraud and account theft type activity in this country also. I have to say -- there is no trust there for me to use that system. Be careful.
  6. LOLOL thanks for laughs Olar (just about sprayed my drink on the monitor)
  7. Your scaring meeeeee. Now I don't know if I want to hide anythinggggg! :) Kiddinggggg, but I will be worried about being lame now. Gee thanks dude!
  8. I don't see a problem with this practice either and would probably do so myself in certain cases. I'm going to add a new expansion question to the original... When swapping out stuff or trading stuff in your own cache, do you log it as a notation on the cache web page? Or do you just not say anything about it? Just curious what those who do this do to keep the records straight. Especially considering that some folks will note an item dropped in a cache and then seek it specifically to make that trade. Wouldn't they be surprised to find it had been absconded and not mentioned!!
  9. Awww that's cute. Post a pic when you get something available.
  10. GC'ing was a natural progression for me. I have always been an explorer from early childhood. I was never content to settle with the usual and was always seeking new places and things to see. Geocaching puts a bit of justification into this concept now as I get older and have less excuse for getting out and being radical -- having some actual thing to find makes the excuse for exploring a little more interesting. Like looking for pirate treasure or a lost goldmine or something. It's all in the thrill of the hunt! Now if someone asks me: "Where are you going?" I have an actual answer besides "I dunno!" Oh, and it is VERY conducive to Jeepin PJ
  11. Thanks for the replies, on both accounts. Yes all I have done to date is locationless caches. It is actually the dates posted on one locationless cache that prompted this question. They showed what would be current dates for "finds" which is what had me wondering. I now have the answers I was looking for and understand the situation better. I will consider these as "closed to further finds". Perhaps there should be a lock on additional logs for these caches to prevent this confusion or "illegal find" logging? PJ
  12. What's the deal (rules) with Archived Caches? The ones with the lines through them? Can I or can't I do them? And why not if I can't? Does it matter? Can they be logged if one finds a lost one? bla bla bla and a million more questions. There's a couple I'd like to do, and are within reach &c, but I don't know the ettiquette. I've seen a few that without a Year in the date (why do people log like that? minus the year?) it's hard to tell if they have been done recently or before they were archived. Simply so -- what's the deal on these? Are they out of bounds? PJ
  13. Where's in a Name when it's the other side of the world? Wondering if anyone can help me with this before I have to take the easy way out and go to the Western Hemisphere. I am hoping for a unique and interesting find. Is some kind geocaching soul in China, India, or Russia willing to go on a little expedition? PJ
  14. I'm just new to this too and have been thinking of winter caching lately. The only problem I see with winter caching has less to do with the cache or the container and more to do with the snow. The trouble I see is that tracks left in the snow between snowfalls will; 1) give away the location to other cachers, 2) give away the location to non cachers, 3) give away the location to those who would destroy, make a mess, or remove a cache because they are not "in the know" and think it is fun to be a moronic idiot. In my mind, tracks left behind during winter caching puts that cache at risk until such time as those same tracks are covered over. Hate to be the one with the bad outlook, but that's how my mind works. I would like to give winter caching a try, but I don't want to jeopardise someone's efforts or location. PJ
  15. All these posts and I only saw one that was actually home cooked. After a long day last weekend of locationless caching and general exploring I returned home and felt like something refreshing and different. The garden is right beside the driveway. I pulled a large beet (the size of a softball) and a onion from my garden and sliced them up into chunks and slices respectively. Dropped them into a pot and began the process of making a delicious meal. A 1/2 rack of bacon was then chopped/diced and fried to semi-crispness. This was then added to the potted veggies with two table spoons of Bacon and Chedder Philidelphia Cream Cheese. The result was fantastic! One great tasting home made slightly weird Borscht. But MMMM MMMM GOOOOOD!!! Oh and a cold beer
  16. I don't see why this is of concern considering Locationless are still in a limbo moratorium. Are we not diuscussing something that is currently not active? My question is: Why the change? and What is going on with this supposed Moratorium? People like Locationless caches. It is as simple as that. Yes I understand that perhaps some of the proposals for them may have been somewhat redundant and stupid (caches for the sake of making caches) causing this holding pattern, but can the powers that be not exercise some reasonable common sense? Can they not continue to allow the odd new proposal that contains an actual thought out and interesting proposal? I have had a lot of fun with the locationless caches. In fact, I have only 2 finds and they are both locationless (I just started in this game). They take a lot of effort to do. One has to research the thing and then plan one's day and routes. And then actually find it and log it. This involves a lot more than simply looking for existing coordinates IMHO (the known verses the unknown). Of course there is always the "on the spot" locationless finds that happen as you are doing something else and realise "Whoa!!! Thats a locationless! Let's get it!" They should remain as a "find" and count as a "found" when discovered. There is too much work put into many of them (more so by the finder than the creator) to not count or be logged as a find. I apologise for getting a bit off the topic, but discussing the details of something that technically isnt allowed anymore got me to thinking about more than just the proposal. I also agree with other posters re: the check boxes -- I can definately see these being useful and helpful to not only the logger, but the cache owner as well. The proposed concept of them being in a separate catagory like benchmark is also a worthy suggestion. As is the "Performed Maint'ce" notice. I think, however, that before this "Mark Waypoint" idea goes any further in replacing Locationless caches, they should be out of moratorium holding pattern and in full swing once again. Then again, who am I to say -- I'm just a newbie! PJ
  17. There used to be a place called the Invicta Gallery (or Invicta something) which was downtown somewhere. It has been many years since I was there (1984) so an exact location is beyond my ability since I havent lived there since '76.
  18. Where are you located -- wondering about shipping or p/u. I'm in MB.
  19. In Manitoba Canada you should be wearing orange now. The season started on the 10th.
  20. What's with all these Jeep TB hogs? Is hoarding allowed? I got an idea, strange as it may sound --> Send some out for the rest of us to find.....who'da thunk it!!
