  1. I would like to post a photo in a reply to one of the forum topics. How is that done? Do I need to post the photo to a photo hosting website? If, so, any recommendations? Thank you for your help. G O Casher
  2. niskibum, we got it, but it was more fun not responding making you think we didn't get it. for a while there, the joke was on you. hey, by the way, if that's how you really felt we would have had a great time flaming you. G O Casher
  3. I have to ASSUME that the bonus is the case. They show it in the picture. I don't believe that it would nornally come with a case.
  4. Can't afford not to order one. Hope this is for real.
  5. Just to clarify, once you place a TB in a cache, you are no longer holding it. If you place a TB in a cache, and no one else goes to retrieve it, that's not your fault. But if you take a bug, and don't place it in a cache for an extended period of time, then you're making it imposible for it to travel.
  6. WOW! And I felt guilty because I held one for two and a half weeks. I intended to bring it to Florida, but my trip was delayed a week because of the hurricanes. IMHO if you have someones TB, then 2 weeks should be the most you hold it. Now of course there are things that come up, so if it's an extra week or even two, hey, it happens. I don't see any reason to hold it for months. Take a half hour and place it in a local cache if you can't find time to place it where you originally intended. This whole sport/game/hobby is based on mutual cooperation. Having respect for others property. Watching out for a fellow cachers stuff. TB's are meant to travel! Not sit in someones dresser draw for a year. Just my opinion, G O Casher
  7. Should TB problems be reported or will they somehow be automatically fixed when things get straightened out? I am the owner of a travel bug that was placed in a cached, but when you go to the cache page, it doesn't show up as being in there. If you go to the TB's page, it does indicated that it's in that cache. Should I somehow communicate to the site owners through email the details to get this corrected? If so, how? Thanks
  8. I think it's a good idea to use TB's as a way of stimulating activity to a cache. I recently visited a cache that went 6 months without a visit. I am sure the owner would have liked to have seen more frequent visits. So I put a YJTB in it. It seems people will go out of there way for one of those. Hopefully, that cache sees more visitors. I also placed a YJTB in a cache with my own TB, in hopes that whoever went for the Jeep, also got mine off to a good start. Sure enough, it worked. My TB was moving the next day. Anything that will keep things going seems to be fair game.
  9. The Roadmate 700 is absolutely awesome for the car. I have used it for about a year now, and would buy it again if something happened to mine. I cant say enough good things about it. However, definately not for geocaching. You can't put in waypoint. I would recommend a small handheld like a garmin legend or vista (IMHO). Good luck.
  10. Just a thought and feedback is welcomed. I know that the folks managing the Groundspeak forum are always looking for ways to enhance the forum, so I offer this idea. Add a section that could be labeled something like "GPS Devices used for Geocaching". When selected, you would get a section for each of the more popular units (Garmin Etrex, Garmin 60/76, Magellan, whatever. This way users can join in on discussions specific to their unit, share ideas, discuss known issues with the unit, shortcuts, etc. Also, anyone interested in buying the unit could get a good feel for how satisfied the current user population is with it. Another of my interests is remote controls, and a popular web site is remotecentral.com. They have a similar setup and I learned quite a bit about certain units before I bought one, and also didn't buy particular units based on user discussions.
  11. Just got home from vacation and WAHOO, it arrived while I was away. Guess what I will be doing this weekend!
  12. Ordered mine on Sept 5th. Said it would be delivered 9/16. Guess what! No delivery. I also got the same email saying backordered until October, no further info from supplier. I sent off an email to Garmin. Let's see what they say. I am going away for a week anyway, so who knows, maybe I'll have good news when I get back.
  13. Yup! Sorry bout that. Hit New topic instead of reply.
  14. OK, I give up. How do I replace "Tadpole" under my avatar with something I want it to say? Thanks
  15. OK! Thank you for your response. I thought I was missing something, or that someone had a workaround. I think it would be a good feature because I could keep the waypoints in my unit, but not have cluttered maps when I go out hunting for a cache. I live near a nature preserve, and there are 8 or 9 hidden caches, some with micros. That's alot of waypoints in a 1 mile segment of the preserve. Thank you again, G O Casher
  16. Does anyone know how I can remove a waypoint from the map on a Garmin etrex Vista unit, without deleting the waypoint alltogether. There are waypoints that I would like to keep in the unit, without them being displayed on the map. When I load a waypoint, it's in the list. Then when I goto the waypoint it appears on the map. Now I want to remove it from the map, but keep it in the list. Hope this is clear. Thank you for your help.
  17. Thank you. I am having a great time, and I think I have "infected" at least a few friends. Yesterday I had to take a raft to an island to find a cache. What fun! I am going on a trip real soon, so I will be letting a couple of travel bugs hitch a ride.
  18. I went to the store, but it's an "internet only" item. Store doesn't carry it. So I just ordered it online. Thanks everyone. What a great deal. Poochini
  19. You know what, I have 3 OfficeMax Stores within 9 miles of my home. I am going to take the web page printout there and see if they'll give me the Vista for that price. Hey, it's worth a try!
  20. Thanks SixTen & Robespierre, I was going to order the Vista online, and return the one I purchased (hey, $75 in my pocket), but I did notice as you indicated, the same site lists the Vista for $199. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the product item numbers and style numbers were different. I suspect that if I ordered it, I would probably receive the Legend. I could hold them to the add as you said, but the back and forth shipping, phone calls, etc. would be a pain in the GPS. Thanks again to both of you for lookin' out for me.
  21. Hey everyone, Thanks for the warm welcome and advice. I am looking forward to learning and sharing with all of you. SixTen, They also had the Legend for $169, and I was considering it. I guess the extra $75 bucks seemed reasonable for the compass, altimeter and 24MB of memory vs 8MB in the Legend. I have read mixed feelings about if the compass will ever be used, and I doubt that the altimeter will ever be of any major use. But the extra memory if I decide to get any topo maps or anything is what I think pushed me toward the Vista. Gaylans, where I bought it has a pretty good return policy. As long as you have the receipt, no time limit! So I have plenty of time to decide. Would the $75 be better spent on a map CD. If so, would topo be my best bet? Thanks again.
  22. So yesturday I decided to get into this hobby / sport. Thanks to this forum and manufacturers sites, I settled on the Etrex vista. I already have a Magellan Roadmate 700 in my car (which IMHO is EXCELLENT), so this unit is strictly for Geocaching fun. If anyone has an opinion they'd like to share regarding my pick, feel free to express it. I think I got a good deal on the unit from Gaylans Sporting. I paid $245, but I can return it if I made a major blunder, so don't be shy. I'd appreciate your thoughts. I played with the unit while my wife drove us home (I know, I am a baby), and practiced a little in the neighborhood. So first thing in the AM, I go out for my first find. My approach will be to do a few finds before I start my own planting. Again, any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you for helping me get started, and I am sure I will be bugging everyone for a while, but will be contributing as I get up to speed.
