  16. I attached logic to the "On Active Changed" event (in urwigo builder) which tests the "active" property of the Zone to see if it is False – thus, the zone is being activated. This logic worked in the urwigo built-in emulator, but it did not work on any phone. Thus, my game could not start on iPhone or Android anything. The "onActive" handler is supposed to make the zone visible and to set the command buttons to their initial state, but this never happened. Is this a known problem? What other "gotchas" are out there?
  17. Well, we needed to produce a new WIG in a crashing hurry, actually running urwigo in a Windows-10 session under VirtualBox on a Mac ... and ... "It worked. Beautifully." Because I am not yet familiar with this programming environment, I found it very beneficial to be able to work within a visual tool-set that was obviously designed by someone who understood it thoroughly. Speaking as a professional programmer, I am quick to tip my hat to a colleague and admit that "I am mightily impressed This Is A Great Hack.™" Of course I have dealt with plenty of "visual programming environments" over these (koff, koff ...) many years, and I need not say what I felt about most of them. But this one is a functional and beneficial tool. It saved me from a bunch of mistakes that I otherwise would have made "merely due to inexperience," and it enabled me to meet a very tight deadline. The "real-time error checker" was exceptionally helpful since it pointed out errors in my logic that I otherwise would never have guessed, again "due to inexperience." "Very. Impressive."

  23. I recently got one of these coins and successfully decrypted it – after a pleasing amount of head-scratching – using an online simulator at https://cryptii.com/pipes/enigma-machine. "Of course I won't spoil the fun," but here are a few tips on exactly how to use this software which were not initially clear to me. The "Enigma M3" default setting corresponds to the Naval M2114 used on this coin. This simulator has three groups of settings: "rotor," "position," and "ring." As expected, "rotor" is the rotor selection for each of the three slots in the machine. What this simulator calls "position" is what the coin calls "outer ring" and corresponds to what letters the operator would see. What this simulator calls "ring" is what the coin calls "inner ring" and corresponds to the position of the plastic disc inside, known only to the officer. (Not all available simulators have all eight rotors which were used with this machine – this one does.) Even twelve years later – "thanks for the geo-challenge!"
