  1. well, if anyone is in the eastern Alabama area, i challenge you to go out and find the cache. btw, i wouldnt be concerned about a DNF if i didnt strongly feel that the area and/or cache had not been disturbed. also, this cache is essentially an all-day effort. i'll probably take along my dig cam next time to further legitimize my claim since evidently "newbies" have no clout.
  2. would've taken a few snaps had i remembered the camera. ive posted a needs maintenance and will give it another week. thanks all.
  3. I would post another note (maybe a "needs maintenance" this time?) and send another email. Then wait another week. If nothing, file an SBA note. K will do. But what's an SBA note?
  4. Had a DNF on 9/17. Posted and asked the cache ownern to investigate the area. I have a hunch that the cache is either destroyed by a newly fallen tree or has been taken. The last find was several months ago. The owner has logged into the site all this week and hasn't responded to my request. Can I report this to the "authorities" as a dead cache?
  5. Trying to find a geocache using Go To - Follow Road - Shorter Distance in Follow Road options and it's trying to send me about 10 mi. South then back up North to get to the cache. When I set the Go To for Off Road, it shows the cache about 1 mile away. In the manual it mentions that it may do this if the maps aren't detailed enough, but I have TOPO U.S. on the GPS. I know the road that the cache is off of is on the map. Checked through the Follow Road options and tried all settings. Tried Faster Time and Shorter Distance, same result. Tried Quick Calculation, Better Route, Best Route. Calculate Routes for Car. Avoids was blank. Why is my GPS trying to send me on an out-of-the-way goosechase?
  6. Thanks so much! No day is complete without hacking the registry
  7. Ah thanks. I tried this last night but evidently placed them in the wrong directory.
  8. Bought the Etrex Legend Cx yesterday, in addition to the MapSource U.S. Topo software. Installed the Trip and Waypoint Manager that came with the GPS and updated to the latest version of that software and the GPS' operating software. Everything works fine. So then I go to install the U.S. Topo software, it prompts me to update the GPS software, I click "No" because I've already done that. Mentions that a previous MapSource installation was detected and that they use the same environment, makes sense. The next screen is where I choose the installation method. Problem is, it only gives me TYPICAL , not the Full install. Yes, this means that I have to constantly swap CD's (3 total) when using the Topo software. In the manual, it mentions that the Full install should be an option and this would be my preferred installation method since I have plenty of hard drive space. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Picked it up yesterday! So far loving it ! This unit is 100 times better than the first one we tried, the awful Magellan eXplorist 400. Now if I could just get MapSource Topo USA to install properly.
