  1. Looks as if I lost another one of my hike to caches. GCP565 This really irritates me when self appointed wilderness police don't have a clue. It's these kind of people that are removing caches. First time I've actually had one post about it. Guess he/she couldn't stand to go unnoticed. The cache is located on rock and no time do you bushwack to reach it. The garbage etc. is not being left by geocachers. I hardly doubt 3 cache finds in the past 2 years and a total of 11 in 6 is causing any impact what so ever. That Island has always been a primo camping spot and has seen a drastic decline in people and garbage the past 20 years. There's no nesting ospreys any where close to the cache site. Ospreys are every where now and having camped and fished close by to many they aren't bothered by people. Should I bother contacting Groundspeak? I've always wanted my caches open to every one, but it looks like I'll have to make them Premium if they keep getting stolen. I've quietly replaced a dozen or more the past couple years and have had another dozen replaced by cachers. I appreciate the help as many of mine aren't so easy to reach. If my sick dog is better tomorrow maybe I'll run up and replace this cache and the Trout Lk one that was stolen.

To paraphrase G-L's log "It's okay for me to come to this island whenever I want but the rest of the world should stay the hell away" anyway that's the way I read it.

  2. My husband and I will be visiting from north Texas to attend the block party in Seattle on August 20 (and looking forward to something besides triple-digit temps!). If conditions are favorable we would like to make a try for GCD on Sunday (and the others along the trail leading to it). Would anyone be interested in doing this?

I've already done GCD but might be interested in doing it again, this time via the trail while picking up the new caches along said trail.

I'll be doing the Going Ape event earlier. PM me if you want to work out the logistics.

Ok, in spite of actually carrying more for the trip, I've shaved my 70 lb pack to 56.

I have each of your email addresses programmed into my Spot and will be running a test at 8 PM tonight. Please let me know if you received it or not.

On Tuesday morning, if you haven't reached Leavenworth before I reached a good camp site, I will be sending a Spot message which will contain the location coordinates. Otherwise, break out your FRS when you break trail at the lake and call on Channel 2.

My phones not that smart though I do get e-mail. Use newcachesatgmaildotcom to e-mail my phone.

I'll be hitting the road Tuesday morning no later than 0700, hopefully closer to 0600 though and if traffic through the Snoqualmie Pass work zone doesn't SUCK I should be at the trail head about 3 hours after I leave Federal Way.

    CFM,

Not sure if you plan on heading up Monday or Tuesday but if my departure time works with your plan you are more than welcome meet me in Federal Way and ride over with me.

I tried to e-mail you last week but the address Totem Lake had bounced back.

  4. Check out the 2:01 mark of

. Should this road be on the route, or should I avoid it?

    LandRover says Go for it.

I had already made plans to get China Wall before I ever saw your Route. The Cache Menagerie will be heading that way one way or another.

  5. A couple of remarks were made to me that I need to clarify this Saturday's HOTM is not the bushwhack 15 mile hike Andrew suggested. That is planned for the end of August.

So it's Stegosaurus Butte this Saturday. Will everyone be bicycling? This sounds intriguing.

I'll have my bike, but not because I'm riding it on Saturday. Friday I'm biking up to Calligan Lake off the North Fork Snoqualmie and instead of driving home and then back Saturday morning I'm going to camp somewhere along the Middle Fork Snoqualmie.

  6. Plan still stands.

I intend to be at the trailhead by 7:30AM with a go time of 8AM.

    Parking is at N47 32.865 W121 32.220

    Don't forget your forest pass.

I have Friday off so I'm doing a bike ride up to Calligan Lake off the North Fork road, then heading up the Middle Fork for either some dispersed camping or to the MF campground. Getting to the TH might jut be a drive across the road.

  7. We were out for a Sunday Monday drive today and drove through a couple of Washington State Parks and the only Discover Pass I saw was the one on my dashboard. Was at Tiger Mtn on Sunday and like today the only pass I saw was the one on my dashboard. Interesting note, the gate to the upper parking area at Tiger Mtn Summit off Hwy18 is locked but they have signs up that the Discover Pass required to park in that lot too, too bad you can't get to it.

  8. You bought an annual pass that isn't needed until July 1 and they gave you only 11½ months on it?

If your license documents fade or become unreadable, please visit any licensed dealer to get replacements (a replacement fee may be charged).
So we should take a scan of the pass so we can print a fresh copy whenever it fades. Hmmm ...

Considering its a thermal print, that would be about every 6 months. I think lamination will slow down the fade effect.

Not sure how hot a laminator gets but if it gets hot enough it may actually darken the thermal paper during the lamination process.

  9. We can't pass up this good weather! We gotta hike!

On Saturday we are going to do the hike up to Shaw Lake (GC26DXX) near Gold Bar. 6.5 mile RT with 1600 feet elevation gain.

Then, if we feel up to it, we will drive a few miles further down HWY 2 to the Heybrook Lookout hike (GCKXWC) This one is a 2.2 mile RT with 800 feet of elevation gain and a great view.

We'll start hiking to Shaw Lake at 9AM if anyone else wants to go on one of these hikes.

I might just be up for this depending on my legs feel later tonight / tomorrow morning.

The abused legs feeling pretty good so I'll be there.

Criminal's hike looks just a bit more than I want to do a day ofter Mt. Si.

  11. I may not like it but I will be buying a pass, but I won't continue to pay the $5.00 for my 4 vehicles that I license every year so in the end the pass will only be costing me $10 more than I already pay. I wonder how many people that are paying the $5.00 already will stop paying it as well as not buy the new pass, net loss for the State, hmmmmm.

  12. Then let's shoot for Lena Lakes, meet at the mall parking lot by Barnes & Noble Sunday morning so as to be able to leave the lot by 0700- if you're coming this way- otherwise meet at the trailhead at 0830ish. Chime in if you're coming and whether or not you're meeting at the B&N so we'll know to wait if you're running late.

EDIT to add: If the time is problematic we can negotiate a little later.

0700 @ the mall works for me.
