I'll be trying to drive to the summit next Tuesday. I'll let you know how it looks.
It's not on the pass. It's north of Black Diamond, east of Kent.
There are lots of summits not just at Snoqualmie Pass, we could use the summit of Mt. McDonald where someone might need to do maintanence on the communication tower(s) there as an example.

Any inkling on dates? I've wanted to do Lime Kiln since it was published!
Here is the answer from TePerky, when I asked her:
Hi, Yes I am planning a Pokey Plotter event for in April. It is planned for April 23 and I am looking at Lime Kilm trail. It is in the work already. I just need to finish the cache page for it. Perky
Is that the same April 23rd that falls on a Wednesday, or some other April 23rd?

If I can get a pass I'll be there. I need to do a maint. run on "Sugarloaf..... It's Soooo Last Year" so this would be a good opportunity for that.
FYI, you can't make caching and event, if you want to create an event you could make a quick meet & greed before the hike and call that the event. If you decided to go eith the meet & greet a good spot might be Ravensdale Park, that way you could even set up some carpooling from there as well.

Hey you left out the Evergreen State College Fighting Geoducks! I have several caches on the Evergreen Campus. Geoducks
Shouldn't that be the rioting Geoducks?
-
I'll be there!

Depending upon my new job schedule and subsequent training I have signed up for, I may end up moving this schedule up by a week or two.
"or two" would be this weekend and you haven't even listed a destination yet????

It's all man's way of saying "I was here". It's part of human nature to want to be remembered, if only by initials carved in stone, painted in cave or on the side of a cliff.
Today it's considered vandalism, but in 100 years it will be history. The carvings that I had shown in my earlier post were near the long gone Catskill Mountain House, a popular hotel and tourist destination in the 1800's. Hundreds of people carved their names in the rocks, yet if the owner at the time caught anyone doing it, they would be thrown out of the hotel. In the 1800's it was considered vandalism. Today it's considered history and the spot is famous for its carvings.
Graffiti is similar to litter, yet archaeology is, in part, a study of litter. It doesn't have to be 200 or 2,000 years old either. I do trail work and often that includes cleanup of trails. There were a few abandoned cars we wanted to get rid of. The state said no. Why? They were considered an "archaeological site" because they were more than 40 years old.
I'm not defending graffiti, but to glamorize the vandalism of 100 years ago and not realize the future historical value of today's vandalism is somewhat short sighted.
Yeah what he said.
Can't you see some cavewoman smacking her cavekid around for drawing on the walls.

I received the e-mail quoted below this morning through the Groundspeak mail server:
"From: Geocaching <noreply@geocaching.com>
Date: 22 Feb 2008 03:02:15 -0800
Subject: [GEO] Fledermaus contacting -Hawk- from Geocaching.com
If the "Kitsap County Challenge" is still limited to those with only a Premium Membership(PM), then you can still COUNT ME OUT!
If the common/ordinary geocacher cannot be allowed to participate in the KCC, then I see no reason for me to set myself apart from them.
Furthormore, I have no use for most, if not all, of the benefits gained by paying for either a one month or even a one year "PM".
If I understand the rules correctly, qualifying cache finds must occure after the inception of KCC, i.e. 18 February 2008.
If anyone attempts to place a false or duplicate "Found It" claim on one or more of my geocaches, for the sole purpose of the KCC, said claim will be deleted.
If I knew which of my geocaches were going to be used/claimed by others for the KCC, I would Disable them for a reasonable period of time.
/\/(°w°)\/\"
Per his e-mail, this previous post, and his obvious hostility to this challenge, all of Fledermaus' caches are ineligible for use for this challenge. I know this will eliminate several caches from the possibilities, but I see no other option, given his statements.
How about someone going out and finding /\/(°w°)\/\'s caches then claiming them for the challange so that he will disable his caches, then you wouldn't have to worry about them.

I've been wanting to snowshoe on the Peninsula for a full year now. The last attempt just put us in knee deep snow in places. This time, I'm aiming for Lucky Koi's 100th Hide. A five mile round trip hike. Scheduled date 2/23 at 9AM. Five miles will make for a long day so make sure you pack a way to make a hot drink and have a good lunch. If you don't have a stove, you're welcome to use mine.
Bumping this for a reminder.
....and bookmarked.
With all the talk of rattlesnakes and the upcoming hike on Tiger, this Saturday's HOTM is getting lost and forgotten.
Rattlesnakes, we're not going to be running into rattlesnakes are we?
On a different note: The Land Rover is leaving Federal way between 0630 and 0645 and still has two heated seats available for cold buns and if needed a 3rd unheated seat.

There is a pretty good creek at Custer's Bridge about 6 miles in and then a couple more on the down side in the Anschell's Alley area, about 2.5 miles from the end of the TMT. Running out of water on a 90° July day on Tiger is what convinced me that I needed to buy a water filter.

I think I'll start the Washingtin State Challange. You have to find every cache in the state before you can find the final that I'll hide under a lamp skirt at the entrance to a really busy mall someplace. The good news is there there won't be a date restriction.

....and I'm looking pretty hard at the cluster up on Sugarloaf.
Finally made it up to Sugarloaf today. Snagged all 10. I didn't even have coordinates for "Where's the Other Cul de Sac, Dang It!" but blind luck and a little geosense prevailed.
Now I'm tired and hungry and just a little bit whiny.
You missed this one. View to Nowhere Now you can make a second trip, Sugarloaf isn't Sugarload unless you make at least two trips up.

With the high price of gas right now Kitsap County is kind of a long ways away for me to drive to try and complete this challenge so I'm wondering if you could maybe assign by proxy some caches in the South King County area that could qualify for specific pages in your Kitsap County Challenge. I might be able to see my way clear to make it over to actually find the final but I really have no desire to give the State of Washington my money for crossing a bridge or riding a ferry. There are plenty of people already paying those fees so why should I have to pay them too, maybe you could paypal me the money needed to for the bridge toll, if not, I guess I'm out too.

Oh awesome, thanks! I will definitely try to attend that if I can. Just looking at the cost of the guided trips, my friend and I are considering just forming our own group. We have some people who have mountaineering experience lined up to go with us. We're also trying to find at least one person who has summited before to come along as well. Anyone interested or know anyone who would be?
You might try contacting Cruiser Guy. He has some friends that that have summited (the ones that we camped with last summer for the Camp Muir climb)

And REI made buckets of bucks off us; I saw several pairs of boots and other goodies being carted out by fellow cachers.
Yep, this free event cost me over $200

She's an amazing lady.
On a personal note; the Jeep is still in the driveway.
But did you check the battery?

Are there any parking permits required at either the put in or the take out and if so which permits?

Any ugly, overweight cachers in the Northwest besides me?
If only I was as skinny as you, but glad I'n not as ugly, I can always go on a diet.
Folks,
Deafhunt is a really, really nice young man who doesn't mean any harm. He is deaf, has been deaf since birth as far as I know, and has no problem with who he is.
Cut him some slack!
He's a good kid!
Naomi
He asked about DEAF cahcers not BLIND cachers.
Yes, there are other deaf cachers out there.
-
This may sound lame . . . But, does REI have parking
Yes, there is free parking in a very good sized parking garage below the REI. No problem if you have a normal sized vehicle. Those of us with big trucks are better off parking on the street.
If I remember correctly their free parking is limited to an hour, after that they start charging.

I was looking at the calander and noticed that "The Pokey Plodders Attack Lord Hill - WA" lists it as being near Shoreline, unless there is a different Shoreline or a different Lord Hill than the ones I'm thinking of, Lord Hill is in/near Monroe not Shoreline.

I'll take 10 and at $3.00 a can I sure hope you're offering free home delivery.

YeeHaw ....(shhhh.....typing from work ) I have someone to work for me tonight so I'll be there. I'll even bring the geo-ignorant spouse!
You know, Allanon is baggin' on us because he saw how much frito pie he was going the have to bring since there are so many of us now.
How long should I expect to beup there?
No, I was going to bring what I could and it would have been FCFS...the reason I accepted this other offer was I didn't hear from LR confirming he would pick me up...and I don't have the tires/chains for the pass...and my 4wd isn't reliable.
Sorry Brian,
I wasn't keeping up with the forum and didn't see you wanted to go until after you were out. I would have gladly stopped by and picked you up.

Hm, so is there a fair amount of huffing and puffing on these hikes? I would love to go on one but yesterday found myself really just going slow while hiking on Tiger.
Huffing and puffing is what it's all about. Anyway that's my story.
I have done repeat hikes on several trail and find that the second or third time I do a trail it's nowhere near as hard a I remembered them being.
Remember to SLOW down on the up hill, while it doesn't keep you from huffing and puffing it certainly helps, then make up for the slow uphill on the downhill.

Umm, yes they did.
HISTORY
This 20 acre point on Lake Union was cleared in 1906 to construct a plant to manufacture gas from coal - later converted to crude oil. Import of natural gas in the 1950's made the plant obsolete. The city acquired the site for a park in 1962. The park was opened to the public in 1975. The boiler house has been converted to a picnic shelter with tables, fire grills and an open area. The former exhauster-compressor building, now a children's play barn, features a maze of brightly painted machinery.
