  1. Seems to me one of the rules of software develpemnet is to write code to come up with the correct answer, not so it just comes up with the answer you are looking for. That's just poor programming.
  2. Okay I started looking through this thread but it is a bit long so if this has already been asked sorry. Is there a setting that will keep the Colorado ON after disconnecting it from the PC?
  3. You won't get the found button if routing by road , you have to choose the offroad option when navigating to the cache.
  4. Way to go Cathy and I see a couple of your pals had a party waiting for you.
  5. I want to reiterate just because you view yourself as a PP, beginner, inexperienced or not, has no bearing on your ability to do the HOTM. I myself called many many breaks on some of the hikes last year. At one point it was at every switchback every 50 feet. I expect other people to do the same thing and the same very considederate consideration given me will be provided. You will have company and you will have encouragement. Wear durable shoes for the trail, pack a lunch and carry at least 2 liters of water. Don't worry about filters if you don't have one. Enough of us carry them and make them available. Not to point out the obviuos or maybe not so obvious but both Lord Hill and The Lime Kiln Trail were HOTM's so don't think that just because you're a PP you can't do a HOTM.
  6. It depends on your definition of "A LOT". By my definition the answer is no they are not ALWAYS a lot of miles, but it's not always the miles that get ya. It could be the elevation gain, or the 3' of powder that you are snowshoeing through, or the 50# pack on your back for the overnighter, or the combination of any or all of the above.
  7. If you are importing your PQs into GSAK the cache is updated to "Not Active" in your database. This way you don't go out looking for a cache that has been disabled, this doesn't work for archived caches but that's another story all together.
  8. By "have to buy in," do you mean to say that "if you want to sit in their seats, you have to pay for their food"? That sounds reasonable. If on the other hand, you mean that we would have to pre-pay ahead of the event or commit to a certain number, then nuh-uh, no way. Twice bitten, once shy. This lack of committal makes the pizza buffet sound like it's probably out of the question. If we're taking over the restaurant, I'm sure they'll want some minimum commitment. I'm leaning towards the first option. And speculating about which caches will or won't be on the route is premature at this point. Generally, though, it's safe to say that for any cache machine: Caches involving a hike of more than 0.25 miles will not be included Caches with a difficulty or terrain of 4-stars or more will not be included Multicaches with more than two steps will not be included Virtuals and webcams will usually be included And, being the wishy-washy guy I am, I'm leaning towards including micros this time. I've got a draft route that Jennifer & Dean already sent me (thanks!) that I need to review more closely, but it looks very similar to my first draft 0 attempt. For those of you familiar with the area, our first look at the area seemed to include caches not more than a mile outside of the I-90/US-12/SR-93 triangle, plus several along Blue Mountain Road in the southwest. I won't seriously start to nail down the route until mid May, however; caches appear and disappear too frequently to use today as a start point. Can I throw a vote towards an eating establishment with enough room to seat us all?? I couldn't care less what kind of food, just so long as half our group doesn't get turned away at the door. Enough room to seat everyone is a hard find in Missoula. Our big buffets went out of business a few years back and we don't have many places with Banquet rooms that won't require a catering contract of some type. Knowing how many people to expect would help a bunch! One idea that was thrown around was having a big get-together at a park and not worrying about trying to get space at a restaurant. Missoula locals will want to show up and meet folks. If everyone around here shows up we can easily see 35-45 folks attending. If another 40-50 cachers attend, then we will outgrow anyplace available that isn't a catered banquet. Which leaves a place like the Montana Club as an option- a Banquet room for 65ish people and the rest of the restaurant available for overflow. My understanding is that a catered banquet didn't work very well previously. Too few folks showed up to cover the costs or something. We are working on ideas still, give us a chance! Yumitori, Leonata, Raynebeau, Dean and I as well as MtnGoat50 and his wife ended up having a nice dinner at the Red Robin in Yakima because of the space issues. We understand the disappointment of not joining the main group quite well. -J You might try contacting one or several of your local Fraternal organizations that have their own Lodges such as the Elks, Waterbuffaloes, Masons, the Rotary or Kiwanis and see if they might be interested in setting something up. The often have fundraising dinners such as spaghetti feeds and the like.
  9. Great. Do you want to meet me in Preston then or have me pick you up? I was thinking the Preston PnR would work best.
  10. Ok change of plans since no one seems interested. I am going to go do this series instead. Sam's Solar System: Bonus Do you plan on trying to get them all or are you just going to target specific ones? All, if at all possible. I have looked, there are only 4 small hikes including the bonus and they are really all on Tiger. I see at least 250 miles of driving involved with the series, there is one 60 miles south and one 60 miles north of the Bonus cache, that’s 240 air miles. I might be up for it, depends on if I get our taxes finished up or not. Dang it I was overlooking Eris. Well its not like there was really any interest in the hike of the month this month anyway so it really doesn't matter to much where I end up. If your up for it LR we should try to hit the southern section at least. Okay, I'm a definite definite for Saturday. FYI I did a route from Preston just for the southern caches and it was about 180 miles R/T.
  11. LOL! I personally am elevation challenged, and refuse to attempt it. BTW, my dad, an Electronics Tech for the US Forest Service who is trained to climb radio towers, says not to climb it without the proper safety harness. Crazy Monkey Tripod is a way cool climb, and on my Favorites list! I climbed it in the rain, which made the rungs slippery (glad for gloves). Didn't have wind, though, which I hear makes it more exhilarating. Can't imagine using a safety harness, but that's me. Big fun!! I climbed it when it was snowing and the rungs were icy, now that was fun!!!

  14. The Evergreen Geoduck mascot was on the show "Sunday Marning" on CBS, this morning. They did a feature on mascots.
  15. There's still 3 weeks to go, plenty of time for the snow to melt if we have any kind of warmer weather.
  16. If you find yourself in the position of being in the back of the group make sure you carry a gun or a big stick. Then if you do encounter something dangerous you can use your gun or stick to dissable one of the other hikers and leaving them as bait while you quickly get away.
  17. If you put a bookmark together don't forget "A View to Nowhere". A puzzle cache that has posted coordinates in the middle of Retreat Lake but is acutally on top of Sugarloaf.
  18. I was on the north side of Taylor Mtn. Saturday, just south of Rattlesnake Ridge, and there is still about 2' of snow there and Taylor tops out at 2600'. The south side of Rattlesnake looked pretty snow free though.
  19. I'll put one together. FYI there are 11 caches along the TMT and 4 that are so close they should be done while you're there. I was hoping one was already put together but as long as you're willing to do the work... Thank you! Done Bookmark here

  21. Great minds do think alike!!
  22. Umm, GAS! not coal. You don't REFINE coal. Umm, yes they did. HISTORY This 20 acre point on Lake Union was cleared in 1906 to construct a plant to manufacture gas from coal - later converted to crude oil. Import of natural gas in the 1950's made the plant obsolete. The city acquired the site for a park in 1962. The park was opened to the public in 1975. The boiler house has been converted to a picnic shelter with tables, fire grills and an open area. The former exhauster-compressor building, now a children's play barn, features a maze of brightly painted machinery.
  23. It's not on the pass. It's north of Black Diamond, east of Kent. There are lots of summits not just at Snoqualmie Pass, we could use the summit of Mt. McDonald where someone might need to do maintanence on the communication tower(s) there as an example.
  24. Here is the answer from TePerky, when I asked her: Hi, Yes I am planning a Pokey Plotter event for in April. It is planned for April 23 and I am looking at Lime Kilm trail. It is in the work already. I just need to finish the cache page for it. Perky Is that the same April 23rd that falls on a Wednesday, or some other April 23rd?
