  1. Windows Vista will be released and we can expect the QFC server to crash?
  2. Being informed by Groundspeak to archive one of my caches, in this instance GCW5AA situated at Rietvlei Nature Reserve, I really have to question the etiquette of some Geocachers in RSA. Complaint received is: "We have been having problems with people playing your game in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. These people come to the reserve expecting to come in for free and then they want to walk to this site on their own. Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a protected conservation area and we have many dangerous animals in the reserve including Rhino, hippo, cheetah, leopard and buffalo. No walking in the reserve is allowed unless you are accompanied by a trained field guide. No visitors will be allowed to enter the reserve after the official closing times.” The statement from Rietvlei is for sure more than valid and to use Geocaching (as an excuse) to have free access is a no-go. Subject of this topic is: · Do we really pay 5G’s for high-tech and ditch the R 20,00 or so entrance fee? · Is asking for freebies “free access to sites” acceptable using the name of Geocaching and in this way discrediting the sport and cache owner? · Why using the name of Geocaching for free access to interesting sites which cache owners provide, again trying for free access? I am inclined to remove all of my caches from “pay-sites” if desired , if other cache owners follow suit this will reduce the number of caches in RSA by 30%. The savity (most people die in African due to Hippoes) issuse are not pat of this discussion.
  3. For a change an event braai would be cool, maybe hidding some new caches, ie every participants hides one close to the location, only to be published on the day (or one day before) the event. Will participate if available Cache Fan
  4. Was under the impression that virtuals have been moved to Waymarking.com since 01.01.06. Anyhow, logging a find without having been there is not ethical in my opinion, would suggest that cachers cancel these logs. Ever thought how a person could be the same day in Virginia US and in France?
  5. Cache Fan rates the Amazing Cache serie as one of the best puzzle caches around lately. Unfortunately the response is actually not as desired. One of the reasons might be that a lot of new caches are placed in Gauteng and in my opinion cachers are more subtical to improve their statistics than going the extra mile to solve a puzzle cache, also very much observed by myself having placed a number of this type. Currently there are only three cachers in the going for the Amazing Cache serie, see AC#3 GCWO6J. Hope this forum topic places some more interest into the serie, a lot of work and effort is being spent on it. Opinions on how to improve the acceptance are more than welcome, having completed the serie this far I can offer assistance or partnership is desired. Greetings from Cache Fan
  6. Following on this morning's results it is definitely worth a try. Depending on the start/finish dates, will volunteer.

  16. One episode from the Cache owner to tell. Money Chest was placed after careful consideration in the parking ground at Coinworld in Midrand. First Monday thereafter back in office a snotty mail from j.greengrass, he has been napped by security on Friday afternoon just retrieving the cache and the cache was confiscated by the head of security who expected me the collect it from him. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh nooooooooo, what went wrong? Phoned head of security and arranged to meet this Monday afternoon for collection, caches are precious. Arriving at reception, waiting for about 10 minutes a 2.10 m tall bear of a man appeared, could hardly see the small cache in his hands. Just whispering, sorry I am the one placing this box full of cash in the parking lot of Coinworld he started laughing??????????? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh was this an opportunity for us to test all our security procedures he said laughing. Had this poor guy in our security offices for a whole hour interrogating what he is doing with a box full of cash. Had him cool off for another 30 minutes before calling the MD for the next level of our security procedures, felt really sorry for this poor guy. I think two precious hours on a Friday afternoon can be spend better, ie finding at least 3 caches. However went with the head of security around the parking lot looking for another suitable hiding place, but all too open. Placed the cache eventually outside the premises. Next up was Team Corolla, also when looking for the cache were questioned by security, but this time as it was outside not much of a problem (I hope). Decided to relocated the cache to Pretoria, next to the fence to the presidential residence, still active as “Money Chest 2”. No problems there with security, seems were our money is made is more important than????? Hope Jonathan is reading the form and can provide his story, apologies again.
  17. Hello, 1000 will be a very good target, especially as I notice a lot of new Cachers on the block. Unfortunately in the last two months not many new caches were placed in GP, for sure EC and even MP outnumbered GP. Premium Member Caches = no no no no! Greetings from Cache Fan
  18. Hi, since 01.01.2006 all non-physical caches, ie Webcam, Virtual etc. are migrated to Waymarking.com. For info see: http://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.aspx I also wanted to register a Webcam cache last year before the dead-line at the JSE, unfortunately the cam was off-line for a long time. Greetings from Cache Fan
  19. Hi, thanks to all of you for the congrats. Hope GR has the sequel up and running for our (at least) 250th cache. Greetings from Cache Fan
  20. TELKOM, never! Currently analyzing my home Internet needs due to the fact that Cache Fan jnr. is engaging in more school projects, at this stage the most preferred is iBURST over SENTEC. Any comments or experience available?
