  1. Hey man, whatever floats your boat. If it makes you happy to make a total stranger feel bad, then go for it. I am just saying I like to try to be nice to almost everyone I can. Who knows, you might meet them later on and actually be friends with them. Or that person might give you some kind of oppurtunity in the future (well, not if you treat them as you described). Why be ornery to everyone. Anyway, I am getting off on a tangent here. And in response to ralanns new thread, I mean no disrespect to the mods nor Jeremy nor any other users. I am thankful for all their help and for having such a nice community. It's just a discussion, no need to take it personal. hypothetical here: I go into a store and sit a drink on the counter. I say "How much is this". Well, the clerk can do the nice thing and say 79 cents, or he can be a jerk and say 20 oz. Well, if he says that then I will probably leave without a drink and I will probably never stop there for drinks or gas again. He could have been nice and got lots of business. Instead, he's got a drink sitting at the counter with no customer. Time for bed. P.S. I just wanna say.. I LOVE YOU ALL. Nite nite. Don't let the bed bugs bite.
  2. Are you all a bunch of yanks who curse at someone for crossing your line of sight? Must be a northern thing. Here in the south, we try our best not to be jerks.
  3. Well if I passed you on the street and you told me that, I would walk away thinking what an ---hole you were. I might even tell you, depending on how big a hurry I was in.
  4. Sure money will fix the problems. Money = more machines Money = more employees Money = more resources Why do all of you got to hate on this guy? I found the original thread pretty disrespectful. Instead of answering the question with a definite answer or a simple "I can't divulge that kind of financial information", symantics had to be argued. And the whole thing about asking what time it is is a load. Who in their right mind (who isn't a total jerk) answers YES when someone asks "Do you know what time it is" I'm sure symantics can be argued with 90% of all threads posted, but we all use a little common sense and realize what information is being requested and do our best to meet that need. Why make it hard on everyone else?
  5. Oh, by the way, Permethrin looks dangerous. I wouldn't mess with it. link
  6. From deet.com: DEET disrupts the ability of biting insects to detect the source of carbon dioxide?the gas naturally given off by our skin and in our breath? which is what attracts mosquitoes and other insects to us. Insects aren?t killed?they just can?t locate their prey for a period of hours. So a good whiff will keep that paticular skeeter away for a couple of hours.
  7. Thanks, I'll check out that Topofusion. I just oredered my first one not 10 mins ago. Took me a bit to fit everything into the medium size, but I didn't want to fork over 29.95 for a map I was going to consider a "trial run". 16.70 for a map with my name on it set up how I liked it and it covers 5 quadrangles. I dont think that's too bad.
  8. What do you think of this map? It is made up of 4 or 5 different quadrangles of quality that varies. Is this an acceptable map, or should I look elsehwere for better ones. LARGE map 56k beware
  9. I got mine from adventurestation.com. It was like 400 or something. I found one that was cheaper, but I didn't know the retailer. You have to use the link on the geocaching.com webpage to get to adeventuestation.com. The reason I payed $10 more was because it said a percentage of my purchase went to geocaching.com edit: i just looked and the link has changed to an REI link on the front page. You need a store ID to get in the website, so I am not sure if you can get to it anymore now. edit2: Is adventurestation.com the right website? I cant remember now. THere was a link on the front page and that was the only way I could get to the online store...and it said 5-30% of my purchase went to geocaching.com
  10. Seems like taking them to Hawaii would be the same as throwing them into the sea. They'd be stuck for a while, don't you think?
  11. I got a Brunton classic compass for 12 bucks. Looks like a pretty good deal. link
  12. I am trying to get some printed topo maps sent to me and this place looks pretty good, but I am having a problem. I am centered on John's Mountain in Georgia right at the Gordon/Floyd/Walker county line. It looks as if half of John's mountain is covered in 1:24k topo and the other half is in 1:35 or so. There is an abrupt line (kind of like Sat images) where it looks like 2 maps were merged and one was of lesser quality. Anyone know if the printed map will come like this when I get it?
  13. Can you get maps sent to you from topozone? I was looking for a waterproof map of John's Mountain in Floyd County, GA.
  14. Is something likea 70.00 Brunton compass a good investment, or will the $14 sighted compass at Walmart work just as well?
  15. It can be online or brick and mortar. I just need a place where I can buy stuff like Topo maps, a compass, a tent, some camping supplies, etc. We are planning a trip and I need to get a few things. The only place I can think of around here is Galyan's, but there website really sucks and you can't browse their inventory, and the store is about an hour away.
  16. Well, yesterday I was making a trip I make everyday, but I told the GPS to find me a shorter route so I could explore some backroads. That thing made me turn down a private gravel road which has since been gated. Wouldn't you think the GPS would stick to public roads?
  17. I thought the locations of the satellites never changed (geosynchronous).
  18. Suaully you have to be really close for it to pop up the black box that says arriving at GCXXXX when walking. Like around 50 feet. I have a 60CS and it's awesome. Nothing but good experience with it. With my external glisson antenna, I get accuracy of 8 ft with WAAS on. I dont use the altitude feature that often, but its nice to have. Now the compass feature, that is invaluable. it would be a pain in the neck to have to walk 4mph each time I wanted a compass bearing.
  19. Nevermind, I did a search and found out only 1 antenna works at a time.
  20. the 60cs has 56 megs of memory, i think. I know I loaded topo and city select for all of north georgia and athens and i still had some left over. unless you need two states loaded with topo and city data, i dont see the need for +100 megs.
  21. When an external antenna is hooked to a 60CS, does the unit's antenna still function? Having 2 antennas at work would be really nice, but from my short 20 second experiement (hold either the GPS or the antenna to a window while in a house) it looks like when you plug in an external, the internal shuts off.
  22. lol..great picture..where did that come from?
