  1. Just seen this and began to wonder if this could ever catch on in the Geocaching community. Monarch Butterfly Tagging Imagine the mileage one of these could rack up!
  2. Does that mean my Garmin 60csx will soon get a new Blue Screen
  3. I have a bunch of hdds and I can't seem to get them apart. Any suggestions? Unscrew the back off of them, most are held on by the same size screws (star) inside and out, the magnet is glued onto a piece of metal that has to be bent off (peeled if you will) because its on their so well. The HD is broke so you can do as you will without hurting anything, I have even broke some of the magnets...no problem I go two for one :-)
  4. You know, I have totally lost track of the C&P issues. Does anyone have a list of the coins to date (this year)? I could be missing one and don't even know it.
  5. I have seen both and Geobuddy has many features that GSAK does not, but I can't seem to find a use for it. All I need is a way to manipulate the gpx files and load them into my gpsr. Another thing is the price, Geobuddy is much more expensive than GSAK. All you need is Google Earth, GSAK and a Premium Account, and if you go paperless, with a PDA, cachemate ($8.00 for Palm or Pocket PC) or GPXSonar (Free for Pocket PC) are useful too. O-Mega
  6. The TB can't be logged into an Earthcache, and some folks get bent out of shape if you log a cache you didn't find. The best thing to do is to find the nearby cache and log it in. O-Mega
  7. I am in favor of religious items left in caches so anyone who wants to drop some unactivated LE or XLE FSM coins in caches for me to find, well I won't complain one bit...nope not me I will just except the gift and trade even...hmmm is there something even?
  8. The GPX files are best for using GSAK or other utility to manipulate, sort, review the data. I used to use the loc files but I didn't like naming the caches by the gc code so finally got GSAK and never looked back. I use a PDA (pocket pc) with gpx sonar (cachemate for PALM) to view the page while in the field, that is where the gpx pays great dividends. O-Mega
  9. What coin is it? Does GC say it is not activated, or does not exist. If unactivated go to its activation code retrieval page and see if it will give it to you. It may of been dropped as a gift by a generous cacher. O-Mega
  10. I'd post a pic of it in your cache log (hide the number) and see if any info pops up. It may be a new cacher who forgot to activate it before they dropped it.
  11. First I think you should edit the actual tracking number as I have done to the quote, it will get locked if you leave it. Yes, I seen the pic too, so it needs to be edited as well. I think it is a bit...odd that it mentions getting a good price. The coin is possibly one that has gone missing. Can you figure out any of the numbers? I would write the owner and inquire as to how he came upon the coin, and see if it can get back to its actual owner. I also noticed that he owns the "same" coin, and that pic needs an edit too. I wonder if he had a dupe or error coin? O-Mega
  12. If you logged them as a find, they will show as a find. If you logged the "need maint." log, then you have to do a "found" log too. If you did the find log and the numbers don't match, check your bio page, on one of the tabs it will show the caches found. If they don't show, log them again. Hope that helps. O-Mega
  13. I have not seen any cards, but here is the link to a brochure: geocacher-u.com You can get alot of info from these. I usually carry a few. O-Mega
  14. Here is a link to one: Log Sheet O-Mega
  15. I use the suction cup mount designed for the Rino, it has the same button in the back so it fits too. I read that some people had problems with the rubber sticking on the windshield but I have not had this problem. Every once in awhile it drops off, but before I use it I release and remount it and it has never dropped off while in use, only when left mounted for an extended amount of time (2 or 3 weeks).
  16. I will second this request. I would like to be able to search for dead bugs in our area and get them relocated to an "unknown" location by the cache owners. Many caches have bugs listed that have flown the coop only to sit there for months teasing us. Search by key words would be great too, you could find all the jeeps in the area
  17. I wouldn't be that devious (or would I?). Actually, every phrase on the coin leads toward the desired endpoint. Obviously, the easier the phrase or encryption, the less mileage you'll get out of it, but the easier ones will help you figure out the higher levels of encryption. So, if it helps any, your decryptions are not in vain; without decyphering the text phrases, you will not move forward, unless you just make a random guess, and I'm not sure what the odds of guessing right would be (1/1,000,000,000 maybe??). Soooo, your saying we have a chance??

    FTF code

I always leave an FTF prize, so if there is ever a dispute the ligit FTF can produce the prize as proof. I never had it happen, but it is a way to sort it out. O-Mega
  19. PM Sent...Lets hope everyone else wanted something else O-Mega
  20. PM sent. BTW the PM link through the forums doesn't work, you have to click on your user name to go to your profile first. The one here says you don't exist

    Hitchhikers

Ok, I searched and could not find a thread to add this to, so if someone knows of one please combine. I recently picked up a TB at GW5 (TBKWV0) and was confused when I logged him in. The picture of the hitchhiker did not match, it seems someone placed another hitchhiker in place of the original. Though it may be something like the original simply disappeared. and some good semaritan cacher placed a new hichhiker on the TB it got me to thinking. So, has anyone had their hitchhiker replaced? And if so, did you ever find out why? O-Mega
  22. Well, I have to say that I now have traded a couple of my Geotags for regular geocoins (good ones too!), given away a couple, and will send a couple more out in a couple of days. So I would say it depends on who is making the trade and what they think of the cacher and the coin that makes the value of the Geotags go up or down. I also think that the art on some of these Geotags far outdo some of the coins that I have seen so the fact that they have a common back doesn't take anything away from them IMHO. O-Mega
  23. I have been using rite in the rain paper for some time and here is what I found out. This paper is water resistant, not water proof. It will allow water to bead off it (and water based inks too, so use laser to print) but when cut to log size, the moisture will get to the exposed edges eventually so it will not survive too long unprotected underwater. It works great if you place it in a baggy or sealed container, as long as they stay in decent condition but for underwater use, I would get a Underwater Slate they have some rather cheap ones. O-Mega
  24. You know, I never really thought about it. I figured that I would trade them with those that offer to trade with me as long as they like my coin and I like what they offer. As to what I would accept, I think I would trade for just about anyones own personal coin or Geotag but would have second thoughts if they offered someone elses or one of the cheaper micros still available for purchase. When said and done I think it will mainly fall on the design of the Geotag and popularity of the cacher, rather than a price comparison. O-Mega
