  1. We have a rental in Palm Springs.
  2. This sounds like great fun! With shared cars, we could complete one of those long trails that doesn't work well without the car sharing. My family and I are taking part in a Civil War Ball on Saturday night, so I'd have to be in town (Atascadero) well in time to prep for that. (Then again, it'll be DARK well before the ball begins so that shouldn't be a problem, eh?) What trails did you have in mind? I would go if it wasn't valentine's day weekend. We'll probably be go somewhere that weekend. but in case we don't, I'd be able to go Sunday. so, I've marked my calendar. if I don't have a volleyball match, I could do Saturday. all of this I won't know until the date gets closer.
  3. no problem. I'm on it, now. I've bookmarked it.
  4. I should probably know this, but can you tell me the URL for the POC blog site. I better add it to my bookmarks.
  5. Jen, 4-wheel drive adventure sure sounds like fun. I'd like to tag along. Stan, my husband would go, too. But we don't have a 4-wheel drive. Could we hitch a ride? If you scheduled it for a Sunday, that would work for me, as I'm out of town every Saturday. Any Sunday in January, except 1/3 or 1/17 I could do.
  6. That sounds awesome. Send me an e-mail when the cache page is ready to publish. I'm in. I'll try and think of some ideas. I've inked the date in my calendar.
  7. I've been to this one and it stood out for me. Had lunch across the street because the restaurant of this cache was closed for the season (winter). But the town was quaint and worth stopping to find a cache. Enjoy your trip. Smoke'n Good Cache
  8. By the way, thanks for the additional info! Dave It's sad that these things happen - for ALL parties. I love dogs and my heart goes out to him, whether or not he was the aggressor, he was just being a dog. And the people who own the dog are probably hurting enough that they want to see that mountain lion dispatched (i.e. shot and killed). I love the widlife, too. I especially feel sorry for the mountain lion and his kind, because this incident fuels anger and hatred towards mountain lions in general. I am apt to believe that the mountain lion ran away because that is normal behavior. But if this was a female with cubs, then she might have been protecting her young, which is a maternal instinct. But the lesson from this is to not only be aware, but take precautions: being that it is spring time and the heart of baby season, probably would be wise to keep dogs on leashes. If this particular dog had been leashed, the lion might have just run off, the owners would have yanked the dog back and all would be well. So not only be aware, but take precautions.
  9. It looks like a viable option. It appears to be about 15 miles from Pozo. Studying different electronic maps, it sorry about not following thru... I had to take my car into the shop this morning and this hunt just wasn't going to happen after all. But if anyone is up for some geocaching next week, Wed or Fri work best, but I could venture out on Tue or Thur afternoon, too.
  10. It looks like a viable option. It appears to be about 15 miles from Pozo. Studying different electronic maps, it seems that there is a road east of Pozo called Avenales Ranch Rd, which takes you about 2/3rd of the way there. It looks like it travels along the Salinas River (but I can't be sure as the maps aren't that specific) Then you turn right on Agua Escondido Rd, then it seems to turn into Forest Route 30S02. Finally you turn right on Forest Route 31S09 and park somewhere around there. Now, I've never gone on such an adventure as this. Maybe this is too ambitious for a novice, like me. I don't have 4-wheel drive and I'm afraid these forest roads aren't meant for my little car. Do you think we should look into a more mellow hunt? Do you have any suggestions for something simpler.
  11. I tell ya what - I've had my eye on a newly placed cache, that I've been itch'n to go check out, but it sounds like a hike and I didn't want to solo it. The cache is Bear Fort, GC1NT6H, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d4-fe5cbde67566. It was logged 3/16th and it has no FTF, yet. There are 3 other caches in the same area. Anybody want to venture out Friday? That's when I can go.
  12. I adopted 2 in Nipomo, Jocko's Juxtaposition (Steve adopted from African Queen) and Code ****Cache. The latter requires me to develop a webpage. I'm working with his brother to get this maintenance done, but I'm having a problem with time. I checked and there are still some caches that need adopting. I went to the "Hide and Seek a Cache" page and entered CA Racetramp in the "Hidden By User" search field.
  13. That is very sad. I'm sure I met him, at least at the Atascadero Park event that he went to. I don't know exactly who he was, since I'm fairly new, but it sounds like he was one of POC's pioneers and contributed greatly to POC. How is the adoption of his caches going? Is any help needed?
  14. Yes, the more the merrier! I've inked that date in.
  15. And you didn't tell me you were coming into town? Not that I wanted to intrude on your anniversary, but I would have made sure you took your bide to this cache for A Special Memory I'm sure going to do that next time. I forgot you lived in Henderson until I went to "I got sand in my shoes, too", which I still haven't logged my visit. Sure enjoyed that jaunt. Didn't get sand in my shoes, but the cache had a compass! We'd been looking all over vegas for a compass with no success, and lo & behold, your cache had such a cute little compass that was actually functioning. But, 'A Special Memory' would have been more appropriate, I'm sure. BTW, that cache sounds familiar - its not in a wedding chapel, is it? About 5 years ago I was in vegas for a volleyball tournament and in between games my friend and I looked for a cache that was close by. After searching all around, we asked a limo driver if he knew about the cache and he grinned and took us inside the chapel, where he presented us with a cache decorated as if it was a wedding dress. This was my friends first geocaching hunt and she was so thrilled by all this. Was that yours?
  16. So...if you opt for Dec., I'll have to bug out. The first weekend in January is on for me, the next two off, all through Feb (except V Day) is on. Jen Your schedule is like a negative of my schedule. The 1st week of Jan is my bday and as much as I'd like to spend it geocaching, I never know what my significant other has up his sleeve. How does 1/24th look for you?
  17. HEY! I finally remember to check on here to see if anyone's talkin! STILL can't get Groundspeak to give me the headsup. I give up. I'll just try to remember to check in. (It'd be nice if these discussions could automatically post to the Poison Oak Cachers blog, too. Blogger notifications WORK for me.) ANYHOOOOOO...next four weeks?! Are you NUTS, OP? In two weeks we're talking turkey (and guests), then it's that rush rush rush of the holiday season. I vote for January. OH! How about New Year's Day (not an early start) or Jan. 3 (the first weekend in January, at any rate), getting our new year off to a good start? BBB Sorry u got no response from me. I've been celebrating my 10yr wed anniversary. Left for vegas on the 3rd, then to Scottsdale. Got in lots of geocaching along the way. Now I need to log my visits. But first my response to this chain. BBB's right - I'm swamped w/holiday madness right now. But, actually, the weekend post thanksgiving is looking wide open. So is the weekend of Dec 6th. what do you think about that?
  18. I'm all for it. Sounds like diabolical fun. If it falls on a day that I'm in town and I'm not busy with sump'in else, I'd love to delve into the diabolical.
  19. Yikes, , I need a hike, too. I only know of a couple trails, and i need to expand my trail knowledge of the area, so if you come up with the location, chances are very good that it will be new and interesting for me. I must be in Pismo by 3:30 on Saturday, and Sunday morning I'm going out of town, where I will be getting no exercise, again . So if Saturday morning works for you, maybe around 9:00, then I might even be able to convince SLMSLO to go along. What do ya say?
  20. This looks like a really big and totally fun event for all. I, unfortunately, am going to miss it because i'll be out of town
  21. So much for the weatherman. Today started out with blue skies and high atmospheric clouds, which looked very non-threatening. Did you guys go to Huasna? I also want to say, even though I got to the pizza party late, I thoroughly enjoyed my hour of conversation and pizza. If what they tell me is true, the event was a HUGE success. Thanks BooBooBee for setting it up. It was great to see everyone again! I'm looking forward to a geo-hike soon. If you didn't do Huasna today, how about scheduling it for 2/9th???
  22. O.P, if you rather do the hike on the 26th, I can switch up and work it out. But you said you had something going on the 26th, so I'll still plan on the 27th at Santa Margarita, unless you say otherwise. I hope there will still be some pizza left when I get to Giovanni's at 7-ish. I'll be coming from Pioneer H.S. after ref'g a girl's basketball game. I'll be in my uniform to save time. I'm sure with this wild group I might need my whistle.
  23. Take a look at the rules for hiding caches, but if my memory serves me correctly you MUST get permission from the owners if you want to place caches on private property, or on certain government owned property, such as state parks and such. In this case I believe you have to get permission because it is state owned property. You could probably just check with Administration to see who you need to contact in order to get permission. Good luck.
  24. Never mind. I am so bummed!!! I was really looking forward to this. Now I just found out that I've been assigned to officiate a high school basketball game on that day. Smack in the middle of the day, too - 12:30PM! Y'all have fun without me
  25. I'll be one of the southerly cachers and meet at the east end of the TV tower road. Can I get confirmation from at least one other to meet there? Can someone tell me which road it is that I would turn into. If I'm coming from the south is it on the other side of the fwy? What time shall we meet?
