  1. Actually, it's far from a one in a million story, but whatever. Anyways, it's better than the, "I hate plc's because I'm a geosnob" like I've been hearing from these boards... Anyway, I met her at an event cache and had a chance to thank her for her good work
  2. Nice story! I hope you get to keep that fat guy. Pets always have a way of picking out their new owners and finding kindred souls...
  3. 1. Nope. Good ol common sense is enough. Just stay out of the 'bad' areas and you'll be fine, just like any other city. 2. Check out Green Valley, just south of Tucson. You can do it on the day you go to San Xavier! Lots of caches placed by our older folks, and they have a lot of kid series with swag for kids only (check out the Meema series by DesertJean) Also, check out the Titan Missle museum. Also a virtual there. The tour is fascinating and you can see the titan missle up close! Too cool! 3. Feb sounds good for flow. The snow on Mt Lemmon will be melting and Feb is our winter rainy month 4. Yep on the Fry bread! But, only on Sundays. Yummy! 5. I've never been there before, but I'm sure the taquitos still exist. Who would take taquitos off the menu??? Welcome back to Tucson!!
  4. When you are picking up the caches hidden with sticks, be careful with how you pick it up. Don't be all 'handsy' with it. It's too cold for most of our desert critters right now, but you may find a scorpion hidden under a ammo can or in the pile of sticks. I ALWAYS look under the ammo can first before I open them up. Wear good shoes. I sometimes foolishly wear crocs when I cache and the cactus can and does go straight though....I know, I know. It's dry here. Take water. Even in our freezing cold winters And dont' forget your hat. That dadgum sun blazing all the time can get super annoying...
  5. Patronizing to whom? To you, who is capable of geocaching for a living? To you who is capable of geocaching 20 mile trails in a deep forest? Luckily....geocaching isn't just about YOU. One of the major players in that large retirement community is an 80 year old lady. She hides amazing caches! Many, if not all, of them are level one terrain. See, she KNOWS her community. She hid a large bolt under the lamp in a walmart parking lot. Cut it out and carved the bolt. Took her some time doing so, and I bet she was proud as heck to hide that thing. It was an easy find. Was it easy for her to build? I doubt it. When I commented in her log about how clever the container was, I bet it made her happy. God forbid this game make anybody happy. I LOVE that my able body was able to nab that easy walmart parking lot cache, and that I was able to play a role in someone else's happiness. Instead of spending my life focusing on my own happiness. A little selflessness goes a long way. So, to the 80 year old ladies hiding clever caches, spending their time in Ace hardware looking for more creative ideas, spending their days carefully creating their caches: more power to you. And I, will happily find, and log your parking lot cache. And you can continue to ignore them.
  6. Well said. I hate it when CO don't respond to emails, or logs. If you can't handle the upkeep, don't hide caches.
  7. I live just north of a very large retirement community with plenty of physically challanged people. Lots of easy caches are around here for them. They deserve/enjoy to cache too. Well said!
  8. I've found every cache so far with the iPhone and MOST of them micros and nanos. I dont need, nor do I WANT a gps to take me exactly to the spot. What the heck fun is that? I find the phone highly accurate. Once I get to the GZ, I turn the phone off and use good ol' geosense. How could you possibly want more? Why on earth pay an arm and leg so that you can have the machine do all the work for you? Boring. And I've done level 5 caches and nanos in the woods. Works like a charm! I always laugh when I hear people dog the iPhone's accuracy. Reminds me of people who need the whole story spelled out for them too.
  9. Hopefully it's a dead horse by now, but anybody who says the iphone isn't accurate, or is unable to find micros (or nanos) is just wrong. Like I said, hopefully everybody knows better by now. Like many people have already said, I've found plenty of nanos with it. One of the nanos I found said it was within 1 foot. I thought, 'it can't be inside the tree'. Sure enough, it was inside the tree. Exactly where my iphone said. Have never had that happen. When I'm at GZ, I put the phone away and use instinct and skills to nail the cache. I really just need to get within so many feet, and then I can figure out the rest. I don't use the sat pic unless I"m really stumped. I consider the pic to be equilivent of the hint. I try to use neither unless I really have to do so...
