  1. Stargazer, You made my day! That was great! You know Star, we're always looking for a "Few Good Jedis," but keep this quiet. I can make a few calls and get you into the academy. You get a real neato light sabre for graduation. Good thing you're from Floridy 'cause the guys from Kahl-ee-fawn-ee-uh can't have them, so we substitute a Mickey Mouse squirt gun. May the GEO-FORCE be with you. LMAO
  2. Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America
  3. I am a retired toolmaker (that's an expensive machinist ) I retired at the ripe old age of 55 and we headed west young man. I am originally from Connecticut and my wife, from up-state New York. When my kids were youngters we went to all the Star Wars movies and I'm still a fan. We now live on a small ranch in my new state of Oklahoma. Okie-wan just fits.
  4. I was given an old Gateway laptop, Gateway calls it a Notebook and it's loaded with Windows XP. My GPSr is a 60CSx. I know 0 about paperless caching. My question is: Is this gift good for caching? Can I solve the secrets of the universe, enrich my life, and make me an all around better person, or just can it?
  5. Congratulations! By the time I reach 100 caches I'll be looking for them with a white cane.
  6. I'm a newbie as well. The premium membership is worth EVERY cent. Welcome aboard.
  7. I hear 'ya roswellseeker. My unit was a gift and wifey got me a $300 gift certificate, so I got the 60CSx, which I think is way too much machine for me so far. Still think I should have got that wooden model with the vacumn tubes I had my eye on! This GPSr/Phaser is a complicated "thang" but as long as I keep on "stun" I shouldn'hurt my sorry 'ole self!
  8. 60CSx. Can't figure out if I run it, or IT runs me!
  9. False, this addiction was completely self-inflicted! True/ False. The next cacher also like MDing.(Metal Detecting)
  10. What arndale and BlueDeuce said. My 60CSx is always accurate between 7ft.-12ft., and I always get between 5 and 7 sats.
  11. Vater, That was a beauty! Are you sure you didn't mean to say Winter Festival shopping?
  12. JohnE5, It's like you and I talkin' about dope on our rifles. How does that sound to civilian ears? Semper Fi
  13. For what it's worth, this is what I did. I received my 60CSx on 22 Sept. and dutifully read the owners manual. Yes, Virginia, men do read owner's manuals. I punched in my first 2 caches as waypoints, stuck "Whizo" (my GPSr) in my pocket and went merrily on my way to bag my first 2 caches, the first being a micro! I loveitabunch! (Yes, that's one word where I come from.) Now comes the barb in the hook!: I found myself sinking into this new technology and language. I researched, read tutorials, asked many questions of the "Elders of the Tribe," thank you all again.) PDA, paperless caching, GSAK, PQ's, EasyGPS, and acronyms too numerous to mention! What the heck do I need all this STUFF for? I WAS having fun! Two weeks lost from caching while "buried" in frustration. Last Friday I'd had enough. I created a PQ, and a route, by myself and with NO net. Saturday morning at oh-dark-thirty, I was back on the road again.........HAVING FUN AGAIN! The weather this week is supposed to be lousey. Now is the time to spend in what I now call ground school. Will I learn all this STUFF? Eventually, as I need it, or "grow" into it. The moral of this story? Have FUN first. Don't do what I did!
  14. This has NOTHING to do with this wacky sport. I just wanted to say Hi to Yuma. My squadron, VMFA-513 (F4B Phantom) used to deploy on occasion to MCAS Yuma back in '67-'68. Yuma was a great little liberty town. We were known also to conduct several "Black-Op Missions" down there in San Luis. My son, thirty years later, spent most of his enlistment there, with the exception of 3 tours in the Middle East, with VMA-311 (AV8-B Harrier). So a big oo-RAH and Semper Fi to all my brother Marines!
  15. Got it! Ding! Ding!..........Johnny Cach 1957.
  16. Now if they had an IGNORANT list, I dare say, I'd be at the top of that one!
  17. We have enough limits forced on us, and too many more on the way!
  18. This is why I feel so much more relaxed in the wilds. I am a guest in the home of wild creatures and conduct myself accorrdingly, we get along just fine. Needles, robbers, gangs are a sad commentary as to where our society is headed. You will find there are many cachers today that carry concealed weapons, legally, of course, and many more each year, myself and wife incluced.
  19. If my Marine Corps wasn't so dad gum stubborn we all would have plenty of ammo cans! I'v been trying to get "over there" since 9/12! They keep sending me home, some nonsense about being too old!
  20. I'm with arrow. Geomail........sign me up!
  21. +2 Very well said (wasn't smart enough to be a pilot........was a doorgunner.
  22. Being a collector of compasses I would like to make a suggestion. I highly recommend the Cammenga Lensatic Compass. It's a highly accurate and dependable device and with reasonable care, you can pass it on to your grandchildren. Cost? About $45 USD. I also have the the Tritium 3N by Cammenga which is for night navigation, hardly practical for the average cacher. $90 USD 'Be Expert With Map and Compass' by Bjorn Kellstrom is a MUST read for every compass owner and has long been the standard. It's a great book for the entire family with games, puzzles, and quizzes in the back. Amazon has it for $12.89. Buyer Beware: There are many Cammenga counterfeits out there! Turn the compass over and look under the base it should have a number similar to this: NSN: 6605-01-196-6971. Cammenga also has a nice website with tutorials. I use a 60CSx and it has an electronic compass, I find it "amusing," but nothing beats the real deal!
  23. I seem to recall reading a thread about caches being possible bomb threats..........now this? Is there nothing safe anymore, aren't our lives cluttered enough? I watched a child peddle his/her (couldn't tell) tricycle down a sidewalk. He/she was wearing so much protective gear they looked like the Michelin Man! Anybody want to buy/trade a 60CSx for a stamp album? How much of a threat can I be?
  24. Just watch your lightsaber around those tinderdry brambles . Aye Aye, sir. Using the new and improved Light Sabre M1A with flash suppressor!
  25. oo-Rah! I'm safe! I can probe the school's perimeter as a balding old buzzard! I'm 6' 4" at 187lbs. which would make me virtually invisible! LMAO!
