  1. I started with a Garrett ACE 250 on a Metal Detecting forum. The owner of the forum posted asking if anyone has tried geocaching. That's how I found you good folks. After lurking for a while, I bought a 60CSx and that along with my ACE is great for benchmarking. As they say;"the rest is history"..........now 'yer stuck with me!
  2. That's one of the really great things of being REALLY new at this nonsense, every cache I find is an FTF, for ME anyway!
  3. Town hall or county seat works here.
  4. According to the markings, 1 tracer, 4 ball, hence 1 in 5, no? Thanks Klatch, it makes sense.
  5. Anyone can log finds like this. It's easy. Just let yourself go..................and use the Force!
  6. Yes, just like that, but without the numbers and text. Just symbols similar to those on the lid. The cans in my area must be the shorthand equivalent of that. 1 {Rectangle} = 1 tracer 4 {Circle} = 4 Ball ammunition ie regular bullet {linked circles} = those rounds in a linked form So those symbols equate to linked ammunition in a standard 4/1 ball/tracer. {Circled Cross} = NATO Marked {Clover} the ammunition is interchangeable with other weapons On the Op's original picture that {V cut rectangle} meant the ammo was stored in bandoliers. (Said in my best Jeff Spicoli impression) Dude. AAAWESOME! This was the primary "diet" for the M-60 machine gun which was belt fed, hence the linked form. There was one tracer every 5th or 7th round. Can't remember, it was only 40 yrs. ago. The 7.62mm ball round is roughly equivilant to the .308 (civilian).
  7. It isn't objectionable to *you*. Keep it up and us angry bitter atheistic, new age, latte-swilling, merlot-sipping, cheese-eating, prius-driving, over-educated, tree-hugging, fur-abhoring, terrorist-supporting, America-hating, vegan commie socialist liberal elitist coastal dwellers are going to start believing it's true that people out your way go around barefoot all the time. ROFLMAO!!! I truly stand in the presents of greatness! Now THAT'S entertainment!
  8. Atrus, Thank you for your service. I can't help but admire a person that stands behind their convictions and sticks to their guns. If you are "guilty" of anything, it is for not being aware of our new political surroundings. We need to be more sensitive. We need to be more understanding. Here illegally? Fifth DUI? Killed a family in Texas because you were driving drunk? That's OK. We love and will take care of you and your family. Don't say Merry Christmas lest we offend someone. Come to America, and if you don't like our customs, language, holidays, or whatever, we'll change them just for you! Push 1 for English. Every liberal HAS to find the pic offensive. If president obama (small case letters used intentionally) was a Republican, the photo would be comical. It doesn't fit their agenda so they just come up with a plethora of "isms" to stick at the end of any word to make it fit. My family, too, is from Italy. They came over in 1902 and taught themselves to read and write in our language. I am AMERICAN. I was made in America with Italian parts! buona sera.
  9. Howdy Miniemike. Did you see me? I was the guy wearin' green clothes! Thank you for your service.
  10. Thank you brother and sister veterans for your service. US Marines '67-'71 MCAF Marble Mountain Viet Nam '69 Port side door gunner UH1-E Callsign: Hawk
  11. Chugger, Tell Garmin exactly what happened, what's the worse thing they could tell you? Take it out back and shoot it in the head? I've heard some good things come out of their service department. Try not to bung up your camera, we want to see the pics of your hunt! Just joined the Elks two weeks ago.
  12. Jumbo? Last Saturday I was having such a bad day I couldn't find a Nimitz Class carrier sittin' under a mailbox!
  13. No, we are not all going to die in 2012..........I'll be here......somebody's got to keep a light in the "winder!"
  14. I found geocaching the easy way.........I bought my wife a metal detector! Huh? She always wanted one and her birthday was close. I ordered it and that same afternoon she broke her ankle. While recuperating I was haunting a medal detecting forum to learn more about them. A lady posted a thread on an off-topic subject: "Anyone Geocaching?" I clicked on it and........poof! Here I am.
  15. That will never happen, she doesn't do anything without me if we are both home except going to her mothers and I don't go near that house. But thats ok because she works and I'm retired and have nothing to do all day and all day to do it in, but I cant understand why I never have time to do all the nothing things I have to do all day. Grey, I'm retired too. Wife:"What're doin' 'ol man?" ME:"Nuthin'." Wife:"Ya did that yesterday." Me:"Wasn't done 'yit."
  16. All things in moderation? Oftentimes I hear people running around with their hair on fire, "Save the Trees!" Being a former caver, I would like to tour the caves they live in. How are they furnished? Early Cenozoic? A bit much you say? How about something in a nice, warm Late Cretaceous? Better Caves and Gardens?..........hmmmm.
  17. Having just completed some rather extensive and exhausting mathmatical calculations, my prodigy, Stephen Hawking, and myself, concur that a yearly membership will cost $ .0821917 cents per day. Our calculations however, do not reflect the effect of leap year. Hardly what my student, William Gates, and myself would consider a major capital expenditure. (Dang my ole hide, wonder what I just said?)
  18. That's gitn' after it! Welcome aboard.
  19. rat beat me to it. Now that I think of it, my 60CSx did act a little goofy Sat. AM for about 2 hrs. I'm in Oklahoma. Wonder if I should have spent the extra $800 on the optional sunspot reduction filter.
  20. I must disagree here. Sure, you can buy a compass at Walmart for $10, and you can buy a compass for $1.99 and I probably have them in my collection. Would I put myself in a situation where I had to depend on them? HECK NO! Save a little longer and buy quality the first time. I recommend a Cammenga Lensatic Model 27CS. It uses a copper induction damper which allows the magnet to slowly rotate without fluid. Cammenga has an excellent website as well. The price? $50. Money well spent and should last for generations.
  21. Howdy and welcome aboard.
