  1. I'm planning a visit after the next Bank Holiday on 26/27 May. Looking forward to it!
  2. I know someone who hid a cache just as is being described in this thread. He buried a flower pot and put the cache box into the pot. He made a lid to cover the thing so all the finder had to do was lift the lid. He was very disappointed when it was closed down despite initially being approved. I think your idea is in the same vein so I'm sure the reviewers would look at it in the same way.
  3. Coastal Defence 2 in Western Australia = 9274.8 miles from home in southern England.
  4. I've read this thread with interest. I'm in UK, so mass marketing of this gadget is unlikely to happen here. (I'm not holding my breath, though!) Although I can empathise with cache owners who are worried about their caches being muggled / trashed, one useful thing occurred to me. A few years ago, we had a fly-drive holiday in America and I spent ages beforehand fiddling about with with PQs trying to select 500 caches from the thousands in California, Nevada and Arizona that we might visit (Etrex Venture & Palm/Cachemate) . I settled on focussing on the areas where we were staying overnight, but I know I missed loads of great caches en route that we would certainly have stopped for. An inexpensive toy like this, holding 250k caches would have given us so many more opportunities for caching on our hols. I've now invested in more modern kit, but I still can't match 250k caches in my hand. BTW, I would, of course, have observed correct cache etiquette and logged online, making sure to thank the cache owner nicely. Q: Does the Jr give the hint? Cos they're right useful when starting out!
  5. I've just bought and started to use an Oregon 300 and I'm loving it. I got it for £240 online from Amazon which was the cheapest around. I used to use an Etrex Vista (green) and an iPaq with Cachemate for the cache details. It's great having all the info on one unit. However, when I find a cache, I still make a note in my paper notebook of the date, time, TBs collected/left and a couple of words to remind me of the cache for when I get back and log it. No electronics can replace the fun of reading that back later on.
  6. I did a couple of lamp post skirt caches in America and to be honest, they weren't exactly the highlight of my holiday.
  7. One thing nobody's mentioned, is trackables. If you pick up or more importantly, drop off a TB or geocoin, try and get it logged quickly to let the owner know where it is. For the record, I have my trusty notebook that I write everything in - I've lost too many odd scraps of paper or cache listings with notes on them. Despite all the electronics available, it always gets admiring looks at events!
  8. Thank you for your kind advice. I tried the Mozilla Firefox approach and the Geocaching Maps show up fine and somewhat quicker than previously. One drawback was when I printed one off and I got blank squares instead of the GC icons. Not a major issue, but I'm curious to know what's going on now!
  9. While we're on the subject, a system whereby you could bulk retrieve trackables from a cache would be useful. I now take my shinies to events, but I don't log them all in and out again as it would take ages and for very little benefit.

  11. I haven't installed any new software. In fact, I've run my housekeeping utilities and have cleared out a whole lot of rubbish in an attempt to fix this problem.
  12. Hi! I'm running Windows XP, Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 and Internet Explorer is version 7.0.5730.11|s. Well that's what the machine tells me. Does that help? Maps have been running happily for the last 18 months.
  13. I've recently started having the problem whereby when I try and open the Google Map on a cache page, it starts to open in a new window but then closes down all Internet Explorer Windows I have open. This started happening a couple of weeks ago. Can anyone throw any light on what might be going on here? Cheers!
  14. And more congrats from me. Well done DrSolly - a fantastic achievement. Now will there be silence for a week or two until you hit 10k?
  15. Is it significant that this has been brought to our attention by Team Skully? The X-Files are certainly involved somehow or other... Spooky!
  16. Reminds me that I did shift a canoodling couple in Kensington Gardens by walking up and down in front of them a couple of times and then sitting down on the far end of the same bench and getting out my sandwiches. I wish I'd had a tourist guide in another language to 'consult' as it would have added an extra layer of mania.
  17. I've got the other problem - One of my TBs was picked up in October 2006 and still hasn't been released. I've emailed the cachers a couple of times but they haven't been out again. They've only found 17 caches, and have probaly lost interest. One time I asked if they could possibly post it back to me but I never got a reply from them. I don't want to be pushy, but I want my TB back or at least in circulation. Any advice?
  18. You don't alwways have to make a phone call - you can always send a text on your 'Garminphone'. Means you can avoid eye contact with the muggle as you concentrate on pressing buttons rapidly.
  19. How about "Get in touch with your feminine side" or "Barbie goes caching" or from the film Grease, "The Pink Ladies" - you'd need a matching T-Birds cache to go with that.
  20. Well I was there (Reading), I took the photo and I'm not going to log it (Brum).
  21. I used to drive through Pratts Bottom (Kent) on driving lessons many years ago.
  22. Did you have a good meal? Also: When you are willing to risk Italian leather shoes on a muddy footpath, because you've just spotted a cache within 0.25miles. You keep wellies and overtrousers in the boot of the car so you don't spoil your work suit. You name your goldfish 'Waypoint'
  23. Sorry to hear about Harry's Game. I did the first part ages ago, but ran out of time before finishing it. It's been on my list for a return trip.
  24. As the closest cacher (I think) I'll be there. If anyone wants help orgainising, I'm happy to get involved.
