  1. I just got my Oregon 400t and it was easy to transfer the GC's from the website on to my GPSr for paperless GCing. I have found a few and logged them as found on my GPSr and made notes, etc. My question is.....how do I transfer those FOUND's and Notes to the website to log them ? Thanks, crwddyz
  2. I just researched all this and narrowed it down to the PN-40 or Garmin Oregon 400t for paperless GCing. I am a noob so went with the 400t as I am used to Garmin's touch screens on automotive GPSr's. So easy to use...my 12 year old has it dialed in totally after one outing. If you go paperless with the 400t (and I assume the PN-40 or similar) you really need to pop for the Premium Membership on GC.com becuase then you get to see the descriptions and hints on your GPSr. With the PM you get the title of teh GC and coords...still paperless....just lacking the other info. Paperless is the way to go....then after you find a GC you can type on the touch screen as FOUND and add notes. It then prompts you if you want to go to the next closest GC...now that rocks !!!! Makes for fast and fuel efficient GCing.
  3. I bought the 400t and am using my Street Pilot 2730 to take to the GC parking area. I love the paperless aspect of teh 400t....works like a charm ! No more paper !!!! Being a premium member is really a must, otherwise you do not see the GC descriptions and hints on your GPSr only the Title/coords....but it still works that way. I just signed up as a PM and now have it all...cool ! Thnaks for the advice an all the knowlege here !!
  4. I just got my Oregon 400t yesterday and so far love it. Very easy to use and I use it primarily for GCing and have a Garmin Street Pillot to get me to the parking area and then use the 400t from there. Accuracy so far is between 13 feet and 0 ft of all GC's I have searched for.....
  5. Excellent tread as I am considering purchasing a Nuvi 500 right now. REI has them for $ 224 US. I want paperless caching and using only one GPSr sounds great too. Would any of you that have the Nuvi 500 or 550 not buy it again ? If not, what would you buy ? I am looking at the Delorme PN-40 and Garmin Oregon 400t as well....but like the Nuvi because of the lower price and road navigation.
  6. Thanks all ! Trying to select a GPSr since I just got into GCing.
  7. Thanks guys....I think I am going to go with the Nuvi 500 for now as the cost is lower than the 400t and I will have an all in one paperless GC GPSr. Plus good on road navigation. I will then put my Street Pilot 2730 and Mio Digiwalker on Ebay for sale and maybe get a 400t with the proceeds of those sales. Then I would have maybe the best of both worlds.... On road navigation is important to me and I would like to be able to rely on a single unit that I do not have to purchase additional maps for. So I have just ordered the Nuvi 500 and will use it and then post a full review. I may then need to add a second unit for off-road nav for the GC's that are in the woods, but for now I am doing only urban GC's. Thanks for the opinions. UPDATE: I read some stuff on the NUVI 500 that made me kind of not want that unit. I am sort of lost now. I could still get the Nuvi 500 as I like the Paperless aspect, but the reports on accuracy and compass issues seem huge with this unit for offroad/GC duty. I am back to the PN-40 and Garmin Oregon 400t now I suppose....as I have a Garmin 2730 Street Pilot for on-raod nav....but it does not allow you to input coordinates.....very poor. I have a Mio Digiwalker that I could use for on-road nav and it allows inputing coordinates and would take me to the general GC area. Then I could use the PN-40 or 400t to find the cache....or should I just get the CSx for that purpose. I am so confused at this point. I really want to go paperless but am noob to GC....having found only 6 caches so far and been out only twice GCing. I did those with the Mio Digiwalker.....but want better accuracy, paperless and good on-road nav. My 2730 is great on-road but without coord input it is useless for GCing. Both the Mio and the 2730 I own now are touch screen and very easy to use. I like that for on-road nav. The easiest solution I see right now is to keep the Mio running to get me to the cache area and then purchase a PN-40, 400t to find the cache.....and sell the 2730. OR Make a total change and get the NUVI 500 now and use for on-raod nav and paperless GC.....then save up for a more accurate GPSr to find the GC.....maybe a PN-40 or Garmin CSx after selling the 2730 and the Mio. Any advice appreciated...greatly !!! UPDATE: Playing around with my Street Pilot 2730 I tripped into where to input coordinates. This was not found in the manual or the on-line manual or on an internet search. It is under "Favorites"....amazing. So now I will use my 2730 for on-road nav (it has an off-road selection, but that is useless since it runs on 12 volt only) and to get me to the cache parking spot. Then I will need to decide on which paperless, accurate, handheld I will need to find caches quickliy. I am looking at the PN-40 or Oregon 400t now.
  8. I have a Garmin Street Pilot 2730 and a Mio Digiwalker GPSr's currently and just got into GC. THe 2730 has no way of entering cords and is 12volt powered only, so won't work for GC. The Mio is rechargable and allows cords to be entered, but is not very accurate. So I need a new GPSr for GCing. I have been reading ALOT here and on the manufacturer sites. Criteria for new GPSr: 1. Paperless 2. Easy to use and easy to download GC data 3. I am use to touch screens (both the 2730 and Mio are touch), have never used a GPSr like the PN-40, so leaning towards Garmin 400t 4. I am average tech savy....can help noobs but once in awhile I get stuck and have to seek help. 5. I like the Delorme PN-40, Garmin 400t and the Garmin Nuvi 500 as they all have paperless GC ability. I like the Nuvi 500 as it seems that it will "do it all".....i.e., has on road car type turn-by-turn guidance to get me to the cache site, its paperless and GC-friendly, has a touch screen, runs on rechargeable battery. It seems it would allow me to rely on a single GPSr for both on-road guidance and GCing on foot. Any advice appreciated. Does anyone have/use the Nuvi 500 for GCing ? Really interested in hearing your reviews if so. Thanks all !
  9. I just started the GC and have been using an older Mio Auto (car) GPSr. All cords must be entered manually, but it is easy and then it takes me there via on road driving instructions. When I arrive I take the unit from my car and switch to pedestrian mode. Then I just walk to the GC location....works OK but I want to go paperless. I have been looking at either the Delorme PN-40 or Garmin 400t. I found info here stating that the PN-40 has a method for entering cords manually. Does the 400t have the same ability...and how/where ? Thanks for helping a noob.
