  1. As the Estate owner has granted permission for the cache verbally, you should mention this in a reviewer note on the cache page and provide a contact number for the estate owner so the reviewer may contact them to confirm permission.
  2. Just so your aware, all these ground nesting birds that are/were in decline was because of human interference- changes in land use- increasing human population- lack of care. Before all this ground nesting birds managed very successfully so if this stragegy was evolutionary flawed their ancestors would have died out hundreds if not thousands of years ago.
  3. you could create another account called "RubyandCosarchivedcaches" and prior to archival adopt the caches over to that account then archive them.
  4. plenty of climbing centres out there that run courses on climbing. Take a look at Single Rope Technique (SRT) too. BUT I'd sggest you take up a hobby where such equiptment is used often that way you have not spent money on somthing you only use a few times a year. Simply put, take up caving and mine exploring.
  5. Forget having a logging delay. just encourage people to dip trackables that have not been logged into the cache yet. Far simpler and ensures the TB is listed as visting the cache in question.
  6. But how would 'genuine' customers get into the car park if there's a 4x4 parked across the entrance? Wouldn't they go elsewhere? Seems a bit excessive to turn away a whole days customers for the sake of one 'unidentified' car in the car park. To be honest, when was the last time anyone was asked for their number plate when they went into a pub? So, (unless you're turning up at 6:30am) how would the landlord ever know you're not in the pub unless it's only a small pub with a small car park in which case I would suggest parking elsewhere anyway. As with most things in life it's really just about common sense. Micky TP Most of the time people visiting Martin's pub park at the front of the building where there is space for somthing like 10 cars, A lot of the time the main car park is empty except when there is an event on, then it's full of cachers cars.
  7. Lots of young cachers when there are family teams often because they are out as a family they save time by not having to log online multiple times. There is one young well respected cacher who owns a large number of caches, has hosted a number of events, and, he is only 12! He is one of the minority though as most his age don't have the opertunity to be so involved. My age can be worked out from my username you can work out where I fall
  8. IMO* everything inside a cache is rubbish excluding the logbook, hence why I love micros so the majority of the contents are ignored, but any item that may not be appropriate, ie food or items which may be unsuitible for young cachers will be removed and disposed of. When I do occasionally hide a large cache (anything bigger than a micro) and add additional items it's purely in order to fill the empty space *YOMV
  9. prehaps I need to re word everything again. On my stand alone caches I read the find logs in full, it's only on my trails that I don't because 90% of the time every log is identical and you can tell it is after the 1st 3-4 logs. However, this discussion is about copy and paste logs, which are very common on a cache trail. Considering I have a trail of 80 caches that is a lot of logs to read, and when most of them say exactly the same thing, it can be VERY easy to overlook the words "log full" or "log damp" especially in an essay type log, and there are cachers locally who have a copy and pasted essay log for every cache they find! It is on this series, and ONLY on this series that I REQUEST that people put minor maintainance issues at the top, That way I am more likely to see any problems early on and sort them out before they become serious and detract from the enjoyment of the cache and the series as a whole. Now, as It seems that I am just rewording everything multiple times I will not be replying to this thread again, so will finish with the following. I like hiding caches, more so than finding them. I like it when people go and find my caches. But when it comes to logging, I don't mind if the log only says "TFTC" or is a essay taking up 2 or more logs to write what they want to say about their experience. The important thing is that someone has taken the time to visit.
  10. If the condition of the cache is that bad that it needs to be the first line of your log... It should really have a log of it's own, ie a Needs Maintenance log! If the log is slightly damp, or getting full but still has space, a quick mention at the end of my log should alert the CO to possible issues that don't -at the moment- require them to rush out immediately to fix them. Putting minor maintainace details at the end of your found log is all well and good, as long as you are absolutly positive that the owner reads through the logs. making a note of any potential problems at the top of the log means it is far less likely to be overlooked. To expand on it, so far in the 2 weeks we have had of 2013 I have received 1,090 found logs, 26 DNF logs, 23 write note, and 3 NM. because of these numbers having a note of any potential problems at the beginning of a find log makes it easier to sort out at the next opertunity rather than waiting for the Neends Maintainance logs to start appearing, which will no doubt happen at a time when you cannot get to a cache for a few weeks!
  11. I don't think I have to worry about the space my name takes up in logs
  12. Of course how a unknown cache is considered depends on a number of factors. Peer pressure probably being the main influence, I refer to posts that go somthing like "In my area unknown caches are all considered to be ones that you have to do <insert somthing here>" If a large number of people use one specific idea of what an unknown cache involves then other people in the area are more likely to use that same format. The important thing to remember is that unknown caches can be anything, but it does appear to be common for them to be caches that offer a bit more of a mental challenge to complete.
  13. just add the MAY require wading atribute IF it is still water, or mud, it's not much to worry about unless it is too deep to traverse. with flowing water, care should of course be taken if it's in flood or not.
  14. Copy and pasted, short and long, makes no difference. What does annoy me though is when vital infomation to the state of the cache is hidden in the middle of an essay type find log. It makes it much easier for owners if finders make sure that any potential problems are noted in the 1st line of the log.
  15. hmmm, don't go caching round here then as I have never seen one secured to anything, except the ground with gravity! and yes I am in the UK maybe my area is prone to rat trap theft? strange thing to take though if thats the case?
  16. I don't know about the states but in the UK these traps are sold UNBAITED so are perfectly safe. touching the container is perfectly safe even with a 'live' trap, as it is designed to protect anything large from getting to the poison. These come with a lock which is to prevent the cache from being opened accidently, if the lid does not move, it's not the cache. I don't know about the states but here in the UK all 'live' traps are always secured to a fixed object, ie a lampost, fence, etc. so the fact this one is not secured to any object would draw my attention to the possibilty of it being a cache. As for the labeling issue. I agree a label would be useful. Personally I'd wither go for somthing subtle, such as "Official Geocache Do not disturb 'GCXXXX' written on the lid with a dark permament marker that provides just enough contrast for you to read when your properly looking at it, or a obvious label that hints to it's being a geocache but could well be a brand logo somthing like "Geo-rat-catch"
  17. A stone I've made- well one of 70 odd. The container is a 30ml sample bottle.
  18. looking on streetview, the central reservation is pretty narrow so is not nessersary the safest place. However being a crossing for a public footpath does mean pedestrians CAN wait around be at that spot as it is a safe(ish) place to wait for traffic to clear before crossing the second carrageway. However, one thing I did notice was the lack of signs informing drivers that pedestrians cross ahead. which would explain why some are blowing their horns. as there is no warning about the crossing for motorists. At the very least the CO should give the cache a very discriptive hint that tells exactly where to look so they can cross over and find the cache as quickly as possible.

I'm using the android whereyougo app. I can copy what the error message says here if that may be of use.

Thanks! That makes things easier! Well I tried it, got it working in the emulator but it kept crashing on device so, have opted for a very crude version which does work using multiple zones and timers.

Could do with a bit of coding advice here. At the end of the zone mover sequence I want a variable to be incresed by one and a non-moving zone to be set to active and to be displayed. the game would also be saved at this point. what needs to be added to the code to make this work? Lets call the variable "Variableone" and the non-moving zone "VariableZone" zoneMovers[0].OnComplete = function() Wherigo.MessageBox{Text=[[it got away ]],} end zoneMovers[0].reverseOnComplete = false zoneMovers[0]:Run() The idea behind it is that should the player fail to "catch" the zone then they must complete a simple forfit, which involves staying in a pre-defined zone for a set period of time. Edit: Figured the above out, just need to work out how to stop the zone move when in proximity. Also, in the sequence What do the numbers I've highlighted represent? "CreateZMPoint(ZonePoint(53.761145,-0.808654), 2, 0)"

  24. ah cows, came across a heard on a narrow path whilst checking my caches had the dog with me. picked up a stick for a bit of extra reach if needed, and walked in to the field ,dog off lead, straight at the cows harshly shouting "Move it!" 5 minutes and one bull later, and they had eventually cleared the path.
  25. Step one find an event that a respected reviewer is attending. Step two worship at their feet. Step three. keep repeating that I've not succeeded yet but might do eventually.
