  1. Some of the same thing goes on with the letterboxing we do. Lots of our boxes have the same FF (first finder) One of my recent boxes was designed to encourage some "fresh" first finders http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?bo...UNTED_shipwreck So far, the only email I've gotten with what appears to be a serious interest/intent was from a fellow cacher, as this dive is not really for beginners due to the depth. Enjoy! ---Bindle Babe
  2. Just a thought ... perhaps the caches were placed when the owner was new to the activity and didn't know any better. I've found this to be true in letterboxing. Once placers have more experience and understanding of long-term effects, the outside bagging seems to stop. I carry a trash bag with me whenever we go in the woods ... letterboxing, caching or just walking. If I find trash, it comes out with me... including those nasty outside plastic bags on letterboxes and caches. If the container doesn't appear to be waterproof, I will replace the outside baggie and send a polite email to the owner telling them I replaced the baggie but offer a comment as to why that is a less than ideal solution and suggest a waterproof container. Most times (99.99%) the owner is fine and says something nice in return. I ignore the less-than-kind emails, which are in the minority anyway. Enjoy! ---Bindle Babe
  3. I respect your right to voice your opinion. Furthermore, I am fully in agreement with you about being frugal and won't even disagree with you in the matter of property tax payments for schools when a person has no children. However, you and your "friendly female Post Office employee" will have to live with your conscience and the ultimate consequences of your choices. Here is a link which will clearly demonstrate the regulation was NOT intended to be used in the manner you suggested. http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/E713.htm For myself ... I choose not to sell out my integrity. Following the intent of the regulation is the correct decision for me because "moral character" is an honorable concept in my home. 4. Team Bindlestiff reporting for West Michigan roll call We live on our sailboat during the summer months. For the last 2 years we've been in the Whitehall/Montague area (about 10 miles North of Muskegon) Years prior to this we have kept the boat in Northern Michigan -- Northport, Arcadia and Traverse City areas. We're more Letterboxers (200+ found / 100+ placed) than geocachers (25 found / 0 placed so far) However, since both hobbies involve looking for the same kind of hiding spots, we kept finding caches by accident. Which, of course, lead to actually going out and trying to find some on purpose. (grin) For Christmas, Bindle Bum (hubby) got me my own hand-held GPS so I'd stop taking the one out of the Nav Station on the boat (mostly I think it was because I kept forgetting to put it back onboard ... lol) Enjoy! ---Bindle Babe
  5. Uhmmm .... well, the first reason that comes to mind is: THAT WOULD BE CHEATING. Media Mail class is NOT intended to be used for this type of purpose. Geez oh pizza, the price this guy is offering is a very good deal and he's not even trying to jack up the profit by charging outrageous postage like some eBay folks do. Next time someone whines about the cost of a first class stamp, remember one cause just might be guys with ideas like this who contribute to the problem. Enjoy! ---Bindle Babe
  6. The coolest container we've come across is a bit longer and more narrow than the computer keyboard shift key. Obviously it's a log-only cache but that's all I dare say. We took a picture of it and would love to share but I fear it would be a spoiler for this way too cool cache. (crossing my fingers I picked the emoticon for zipping my lip)
  7. Yippie! Thanks Pipanella, I appreciate that you could get my picture posted. How would you like to send me an off-list note telling me how I can do it myself? Or do I have to become a 'Closet kitty paw huffer' to become computer savvy, too?
  8. Opps ... Guess that didn't work. If anyone can point me to the tutorial for adding pictures to the forums, I'd appreciate the help! (I promise I'll study up and see if I can get it right)
  9. Since I'm primarily a Letterboxer, I use my boxing signature stamp and have been leaving old foreign coins in a tiny ziplock baggie --- at least until our coin supply runs out. I'll try to upload an example picture. (Crossing my fingers I can get it to work) [p] <IMG SRC="http://pic17.picturetrail.com/VOL859/3312968/6789902/90800383.jpg">
  10. Hello vandermerwe-family aka geocacher_coza -- I have a great shot of the Big Sable Lighthouse that fits your request. Let me know how I can get it to you for posting in the cache log. Now if only I can get a response in the Saudia fourm that I posted my request to for this same cache! (grin) Enjoy! ---PJ aka Bindle Babe
  11. I'm in need of some help in being able to log the following Virtual Cache: Where's in a Name Cache (GC3153) created by Crusso My user name translates to the coordinate 24* 63.53 If anyone is willing to view the cache directions and help by taking a photo, etc. I would really appreciate it. Also, the directions say that if you email Crusso, the cache owner, and reference my User-name you can also get credit for the find. Even if I don't get a partner from this request, I think the cache is a success. It caused me to do a little research (learning is a good thing) and sent me in search of cache locations near my translated corordinate, which lead me to the SKA page. I've viewed the every cache listed in the KSA and have seen some amazing pictures posted, so I appreciate the cache Crusso posted/created. I must say I am in awe of those of you are are caching in such remote, desolate areas. Anyone who needs a partner for this search with a translated coordinate in the 43 degree area will gladly be given return assistance to log their find of this cache. Enjoy! ---PJ aka Bindle Babe
