  1. I wouldn't even worry about it. If they get off on having never visited some really cool caches, that's their issue. I dunno, kind of a bummer, but I'd just look past it and if they're logging your caches personally, just delete the logs.
  2. Wanna know something Mark. That certain fella only owns a few coins, I tracked one down, which had not been picked up since 2007. I was able to get in touch with that cacher and she still had it and mailed me his coin. So I'm wondering if I can work out a trade for his coin and the coins he has, hehe. On his coin, it says, "don't keep me!"
  3. damnit mark, I was out of town and missed, yet another event. I will be in touch with you to see if there might be another coin for me to get form you
  4. I found my first thousand or so caches with the iPhone app exclusively. I have a DeLorme PN40 now, but still rarely use it and may use it even less once my premium membership runs out
  5. I wish I had a little more time on my hands, I'd make one in the south end happen. Anyone want to step up and organize one near Tacoma?
  6. Sorry y'all and sorry jellis let's go hiking
  7. Sorry, wasn't aware of new guidelines that allowed cache owners to be out of state. I asked to place a cache in Mexico last year and wasn't allowed, even though I visit yearly and have local help. This opens up some doors, thanks for the heads up! PS I never thought I was dumping on jellis. I thought my comments were articulated well and I stated why I thought it was a bad idea to not adopt the cache out.
  8. Just making comments... And I've cached long enough to have seen a couple unkempt caches from out of state CO's, that's my point. That's it, that's all. No need to drop the longer than you card.
  9. You can call me unfriendly if you like, I just don't understand why people have 100+ caches, can't maintain them and then refuse to adopt them out or archive them. I understand your connection with said cache, just don't really agree with your method of keeping the cache alive. I've just been to too many caches with owners living hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away and no one being able to maintain them. Then caches sit there for a couple of weeks or longer and people visit, log DNF's and nothing is being done. I don't know you personally and I'm not saying you would ever be guilty of this, but past experiences have obviously soured the way I feel about cache owners being 2,000 miles away. I have a feeling most reviewers might feel the same way too... Good luck, there are plenty of FRIENDLY cachers out there who might help you
  10. You placed it in Jan and are already having problems maintaining it? I'm sure you can find someone to help in Burien, but I don't understand why you're placing caches you can't maintain yourself and/or offer to adopt out...
  11. I think my comment was more towards $80 for a cache/coin, than towards the cost of maintaining/flying a helicopter. Just the general cost of having a good time is on the rise. Though, being it's on a river, looks like it might be a fun float and grab
  12. I log about 50% of my caches from my phone and pretty much since I've started, I write my logs based on how memorable a cache is and my experience finding it. Some caches get, "thanks for the cache." other gets 500 words. I've also come tithe conclusion that people leaving stupid logs via phone is going to happen and spending time thinking about it is a waste of time. if it bothers you that much, archive your caches so you dont get logs sent to you anymore. There, problem solved... PS this was typed in via iPhone, sorry for any errors...
  13. I guess I just don't see the point of paying for a premium membership if I have to deal with slow downs one day out of the week, especially on a weekend and I shouldn't have to load my PQ's a couple of days in advance. If I wake up and change my plans, I shouldn't have to wait for Groundspeak to decide when I can leave for the day. I wouldn't have these complaints if I wasn't paying is what I'm saying. I imagine there is a ton of money streaming in each and every month, it's time to slow down on all the publicity stuff and concentrate on the users experience, which is a joke at times and usually seems to be the time I wanna go cache. I like all the new goodies, don't get me wrong, but if I can't use them, I'll spend my money elsewhere and not worry about it...
  14. The site performance issues today are rather new. I suspect an outside cause. Wonder what app issues your having. I have not noticed any. Could it be one of the free phone apps that have problems right after a site update? If so I would not blame the site, I would blame the app writer. Edit: seems the performance issues are resolved. You might want to consider saving $10 next time and sign up for a year. I'm using the official app. Just seems to be very sketchy at times on the iPhone. My current premium membership is up in June, I'll decide then if it's worth another $10. I prefer to do $10 at a time for reasons just like this. I think Groundspeak needs to cut back on all the money going to videos and block parties and get their app/website running a little more smoothly.
  15. I canceled my recurring membership today, done with the ongoing website and app issues. I pay $40 a year for sub-par performance, no thanks, I'll pass...
  16. I'm a strong maybe at this point since I'm short a team at this point. If I do end up going, do any locals have advice on camping? Looks like there is the confluence park just north of wenatchee and then another park along the river further north on the east side of the river. Though I suppose $44 for a night in a warm room isn't THAT bad either...
  17. Hey, me too. Triumph. Just lookin' though. Good luck!
  18. Saw this on twitter a few minutes ago: State Parks Sno-Park Permits (now only 1 auto per permit) available on-line at www.parks.wa.gov/winter
  19. come on now, lol.... I'm on the field, so it's a little different /brag
  20. Last summer we did 26 miles or so in one day for three caches. It was a loop and all of them can be done in much shorter trips, but there is a 100 mile challenge here in WA that a bunch of us were going crazy for and that one racked up a few miles for three of us, lol. We do hike of the month hikes out here in washington fairly regularly and they generally range from 6 miles on up to 14 or so. Lots to do out this way
  21. shoots, I cannot find my letter mailed to me to get my coin, this could only spell bad news for me. Silly house moves causing unorganized mayhem
  22. Hiking boots are fine. My first time out I put plastic bags on my feet and then put them in running shoes. I was broke, but it worked, lol. I had VERY cold feet, so I don't suggest it, but you should be fine with some waterproof hiking boots. You have a Big5 Sports in Moses Lake, though it may be too late to get snowshoes there. There is also Mountain High sports in ellensburg and they may do rentals, but you'll need to call both to find out what works best for you. May want to try and post a wanted ad on craigslist and find a set that way. Or maybe another cacher here will either loan you a set for the day or pick up a rental for you and you can pay them. Sports Authority does rentals for about $15, which includes poles. As far as a meeting point, I think this is the right location, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=Nat+for+Dev+Rd+144&hl=en&geocode=FaUb0wIdueLD-A&mra=ls&sll=47.389677,-121.379914&sspn=0.010895,0.032401&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=16 You will need a snopark pass, which is $20 for the day, or $40 for a season pass. There is a ranger generally in the area, but getting one BEFORE you get there is ideal. Now, this is where car pooling is important. The SMART thing to do, is to have a bunch of people meet at the parking lot for the snowboard areas across I-90, which is free to park. Then load as many people as possible into one car and drive over to the snopark area for the snowshoeing and only pay for one pass. You guys can post here and coordinate that, I'll be at the seahawks game Hope that helps. Welcome to Washington and you are about to meet a ton of amazing people!
  23. Lost a flashlight today. Just got it from a fellow cacher for Xmas, if anyone picked it up and you wanna return it, lemme know. If not, enjoy the flashlight PS had fun this weekend, thanks to everyone who put time and effort into this!
