  1. Both real cork and the fake cork? Just the real, which is hard to find now-a-days. Use can just use an exacto to cut out the parts you don't want. IMPORTANT! - remember that the stamp will be in reverse so if you are doing letters or numbers, carve them backwards. I learned this the hard way!
  2. Wine corks also make good stamps. Plus you get to drink the bottle
  3. Why do we do it? Because it's awesome! haha. My husband & I love being in nature and we love being outdoors and I've always wanted to be a Goonie and hunt for treasure We get to spend time together, get exercise, and be a part of something that people all over the world are a part of.
  4. You don't catch a cold by caching in the rain. Myth. I've cached in the sleet when it was 32 degrees out and I've walked through swamps more times than I can remember. I've cached in the winter when it's been -30 below zero. I've cached in snowshoes with 48" of snow on the ground. Pull up your bootstraps and stop being a wimp. Terribly sorry I'm not man enough for you. I guess I'm imagining my cold. Oh, well. Joey - hope you're ok!
  5. I have a few posts but I can probably still be considered a lurker. Just joined and started last week after a friend told me about it (he just started the week before last!). My husband & I are in NEPA and are lucky enough to have a bunch of caches very close to us which makes it great to start out. And I don't know who's more into it, me or my husband! We both love being with nature so this is the perfect thing for us. Plus, I've always wanted to find buried treasure
  6. Exactly. Carry some paper towels, ziplocks and spare logs with you so you can dry the container or put a new log in. As far as not reaching one, I would e-mail the owner and get their opinion.
  7. Joey, I feel your pain. The husband & I went out looking for the first time on Friday in 60 degrees and rain. Hey, I couldn't wait! Needless to say, I am paying for it today * sniffle * Lesson learned - always dress appropriately and keep a spare set of dry clothes in the trunk!
  8. Thanks everyone. We'll be careful if we ever come across one of these but chances are, we'll be ok. So I say - bring one on! I think it's neat.
  9. I'm a newbie but I did some snooping around the site before I went searching & I came up with a list of things to keep in my backpack. I have extra ziplocks, extra logs, pencils, paper towels and wipes. And of course extra swag. So far, we did have to wipe out a container and set up a makeshift ziplock cover because the lid was broken. I did post in my log about the lid just so the hider knows and may want to replace it. If I ever come across a cache with garbage in it, I'll just toss it in the trash bag (Hmmmm maybe I should carry a pair of gloves too) and let the hider know in my log just in case this keeps happening and they may want to think about relocating.
  10. I'm a newbie and haven't done any of these yet, but I'd be afraid to because: I'm a worry wort. Would it be safe?
  11. We just started looking on Friday and have found 5 so far. I completely agree with what everyone said. Start with level 1's and look for bigger sized caches. Our first was a 35mm film container but luckily the description and hint was dead on. You said you have a son. Just think as if you were hiding Easter Eggs for him. You wouldn't just leave them out in the open would you? You have to think a bit trickier. And even if you don't find one, at least you got to spend some time outdoors with your son
