  1. I just loaded a bunch of waypoints. I chose a huge red circle as my waypoint symbol, but the 60csx displays it as a blue flag when loaded from mapsource. I am using the latest software/firmware updates from Garmin and CitySelect 6
  2. That is crummy. I hope Magellan customer service is as good as Garmin. One of my Garmin 60CS units was crushed when it was run over by a car. Garmin is sending me a replacement. ..
  3. This is a "cart before the horse" situation. Go return the card and buy it again after you have bought maps to use it with, or buy mapping software in the next 2 weeks. . . I'm pretty sure it will work just fine, but there's really no need for a large card unless you are going to be loading maps. You would be hard pressed to fill even the standard original card with POI's. . .
  4. I agree wholeheartedly that the accuracy of these units is incredible. I took mine on an 11 mile drive down the "Tail of the Dragon (US-129) in NorthCarolina/Tennessee. All of my previous units would have great difficulty maintaining a lock on this heavily wooded mountain road, but the csx saved tracks that were 100% on the road the whole time.
  5. Well, you could have some odd things listed in the follow road properties such as avoiding highways, etc. Are you using City Select or the base map? Basemap routing is mostly useless unless on major highways. . .
  6. As far as I know, there are no Lithium Ion batteries in an AA package, and Garmin has never even hinted that these GPSr's can be used with Lithium Ions, so I'm not sure where they are going with this. Garmin does more than hint about it in the manual, they suggest the use of lithium batteries in below freezing weather.
  7. I have both. the csx is incredibly improved. This weekend I was driving with a sports car club through some incredibly windy mountain canyon roads with dense tree cover. I checked out my track logs and they stayed right on top of the road, never deviating more than 20 feet or so. My CS or my older streetpilot III would lose signal very often and would not produce tracks that stayed on the road.
  8. I agree that you are probably inadvertently adding more maps than it can handle. clear out all the maps and start over and you should be fine.
  9. What I think is so funny about this: "It’s an extremely technical process that involves Einsteintype theory stuff. It’s a bit difficult to explain to the casual observer." is the fact that Einstein himself said: "It should be possible to explain the laws of physics to a barmaid."
  10. One extra special nice thing you could add to the gift (as if it wasn't enough already) would be set of 4 rechargable NiMH batteries and a charger. College kids have better things to spend their pocket money on than batteries!
  11. Next time I am caught in a lie, I am going to use this great excuse: "“It’s an extremely technical process that involves Einsteintype theory stuff,” Daniels said at the time. “It’s a bit difficult to explain to the casual observer.”"
  12. I'm a backlight hog too. escapethematrix! It just looks so darn good!
  13. I wouldn't do anything but raise the terrain and difficulty level of the cache!
  14. http://www.fis4her.com/store-products-Gils...0_20673106.html $9 each, and this guy is really nice and ships quickly. I ordered a glisson neoprene case last week for a great price. Might as well add one of those to your order while you are at it since his prices are almost half price compared to gpsgeek
  15. If you are splurging, definitely go for the 60csx. I've used many gps systems since the very first ones available to the public and my new 60csx is truly incredible. Definitely add city select (or Navigator if you get a large memory card) and topo for your backpacking!
  16. Id go with the 60CSX because it is cheaper than the 76CSX and I like the smaller case design. I'd only go with the 76CSX if I needed a unit for boating and wanted it to float. Since you will probably end up upgrading the memory with a larger microSD card, the larger card in the 76CSX isn't worth the added price.
  17. Point #8 is very well stated. I've done the same side by side comparison with my 60Cs and 60CSX and have seen the same type of results. Even though the CSX is stating a more conservative EPE, it does better than it admits to performing.
  18. I would definitely agree that the Legend CX is the best in that price range. I'd love to have one as a small pocket backup unit.
  19. Frankendoodle, It does not have any clips or loops on the back like the Glisson version. But it does have a hole for the Garmin button thingy to stick through to use Garmin-specific mounts. Garmin does have a carabiner clip even though it is a bit expensive. I also just received one of the Glisson cases and it is very nice too. I do like the velcro loop and carabiner attachments.
  20. The trick to protecting the cache and your geocaching activity is to blend into the environment so that you look like you belong there. That is why my caching kit includes a pair of sparkly hot pants and a tight tank top for these kinds of caches.
  21. I have a RedStone pack made by Stone Creek Designs. It is by far the best daypack I have ever seen or had the pleasure to wear. Hand made in a small shop run by one of the top gear designers in Colorado (formerly known for her designs for MountainSmith among other top names). It has a fantastic zipper-less opening/closing system that opens and closes just by pulling one of 2 rip cords. The harness system is easily adjustable to hold the weight on the hips, making it incredibly comfortable, especially for someone like me with back problems. My pack has been around the world and suffered the harshest treatment, but it is made of the best materials and is still good as new after 5 years. I like supporting a small American company, especially when the quality is the best I have ever known. Most of the big names used to be small quality shops like this until their name became more valuable than their products. The MountainSmith, Patagonia, and North Face gear that I have that was made in the US before they moved overseas was of the same high quality that this backpack is today. Sadly those companies don't make the quality gear that they used to. . . . Just good to know that some still do! Check it out here: http://stonecreekproduct.com/Merchant2/mer...oduct_Code=RDBP
