  1. What we don't need is a bunch of amateur herpetologists going out into nature and turning over every rock and looking in every crevice for snakes, frogs and lizards! I'd bet my gps that she has a room full of wild critters she has collected from her special natural places and I think the environment would be in better shape if all those amateur herpetologists looked for their lizards in the cities.
  2. Don't worry about this too much. If you buy the US city select software, you are allowed to unlock all regions and you can do this for two GPSr units. So you'll have all of the US and can load and change the maps in your GPSr at any time with no cost. No worries.
  3. It is a great starter unit and has probably been used to find more geocaches than any other unit on the market. I would spend just a little bit more and get the Etrex Legend because it comes with a serial cable you can use to download geocaches into the unit from your computer. It also has a tiny bit of map memory and a local friendly geocacher might be willing to download a small amount of local topo maps into your unit. This is the one I bought for my brother to get him just a littel bit into the game. I gave him the unit with his local area topo maps loaded. When/if you really get into it, your etrex will be a great backup unit or loaner for friends who you bring along on the hunt.
  4. would you be interested in one that wasn't broken? Make an offer. . . .
  5. Just so you know, you can get a 60CX for $359 and a CSX for $399. Consider that before you" save" a lot of money buying another Magellan.
  6. well, it was a long time ago, but I just sat down and cried until someone found me
  7. I can only assume that if "ALL technologies" are banned from wilderness areas that this guy follows the law and enters such areas completely naked since even a zipper is a sort of modern technology. And certainly no portable water purifiers for this guy, he drinks the water straight from the stream regardless of an parasites that it might contain, because, it's not really wilderness if there is not something there that can eat/kill/harm you.
  8. Ignore the brand names and buy based on price per mAh.
  9. or maybe everyone is away from their computer while caching!
  10. I bet she could earn her first-aid patch while geocaching!
  11. I get the following error when I select any of the gallery images for my travel bug to be the one visible for the bug page. FOr my other bugs, it works, but not for this one???? 12. My lost bug is one the move again! yay!
  13. My first and favorite travel bug has also been kidnapped by a inactive newbie. Best advice is not to release any travel bugs that you won't get upset when they get stolen. . .
  14. If I could afford it, all of my pants would be gramici! I love the stuff! Sierra Trading Post is my favorite place in the world. I do miss living close to Cheyenne Wyoming where they have their huge factory store. If you think there are bargains online, you just gotta go see what they have in the store!
  15. The big question that should be answered for the OP is: How do you make a PVC cache waterproof! I've yet to find one of these "pipe bombs" that was not soggy and gross inside, except for one that was recently placed and hadnt had time to get soggy.
  16. how do you check how many there are?
  17. No they don't. They have no such 'right' at all. To allow property owners to 'decorate' their property to the detriment of their neighbors is not a 'right'. If the neighbors want to correct this problem they first need to obtain a set of gonads larger than the offending self-centered insulting moron next door. Then to collectively organize against the pitiful inconsiderate loser. Haul his sorry butt through the courts and otherwise harrass and confound him until he either gets the message or better yet, moves to some other neighborhood where his special 'decorating' talents will be more acceptable. Then pass the local ordinances and Convenants, Conditions and Rules that are sometimes necessary to get the attention of those who seem to think that the universe revolves around their miserable little selves. Trust me, you'd not like to be MY neighbor. Well that is unless you are capable of behaving in a manner consistient with normally experienced social and neighborly norms. For some strange reason there are those that find this to be an extremely difficult thing to comprehend. No, I would NOT like to be your neighbor I'll do as I dadgum well please on my own property, thank you very much. I agree that this is the tackiest thing I have ever seen and I would be horrified if my neighbor did such a thing, but I would defend his/her right to decorate a home as he/she sees fit within the bounds of already existing and agreed upon covenants, conditions and rules. If this is how an American citizen chooses to pursue his/her happiness and express themselves freely, then they actually DO have the right to do it. There are some 200 year old documents in Washington DC that explains this extremely difficult thing to comprehend.
  18. I have upgraded from City Select 5 to City Select 6. Since my laptop does not have tons of room left on the hard drive, is it possible to remove the older version of the maps. There is a folder in the Garmin folder called "NACSV5" that appears to contain all the map info. There are also some files with similar names in the Garmin folder: NACSv5.img , nacsv5.tdb , etc that also appear to be related to version 5. Can I just delete those files and folders or is there something else I must do to eliminate the old maps? I should be able to recover over 1 gig if I can do this. . . .
  19. I think that webcam program saves shots from YOUR webcam on YOUR computer. Might not work for those webcan caches after all. . .
  20. Although it would be too big, you could get a very cheap 2-3 year old laptop, slip in a wifi card and have one heck of a wifi web surfer. You could probably do this within your $300 budget and get a lot more functionality out of it. Depending on the size of your car seats, it might still slip underneath. OF course, I would also LOVE an wifi internet machine that was about the size of a paperback book. . . . I just don't think there is a product out there to fit this demand just yet.
  21. I have seen several threads in the past about Europeans looking to buy GPS units in the US while vacationing because they are a lot cheaper here. If that is the case, then I'd buy the unit and maps here instead of there.
  22. The important thing to remember is that using these is very unlikely to make a significant difference to your caches unless you are replacing the dessicant packs with fresh ones on a VERY regular basis. And if you are doing cache maintenance on a very regular basis, then you probably don't need dessicants. It is a great idea to put something in a cache to keep it dry, but little silica gel packs really are not up to the task for our purposes.
